What school are they coming from?
A high school around Knoxville, this certain player has a possible commitment  with a future at UK.

Boyle and Corbin just cant produce home grown talent anymore!! LOL... selling their souls.

If DJ Hunter wanted to come to your school to play QB, you would think most coaches would welcome it with open arms.

Salmons is the only guy who would have to sign off on something like that, so I'm assuming it's him. Do we know that the "big time" QB is more talented than Mason Salmons? I've seen some pretty impressive film on Mason at QB before he came here. Btw, any coach who wouldn't sign off on adding the most talented players possible to the roster should not be coaching. The goal is still to win , isn't it?

I’ve been hearing for about a month that Boyle was possibly getting a new QB from Tennessee, time will tell I guess.

HS is not much different than college anymore. Ever who ponies up the most $$$ , cars , girls, etc will land the big time talent. If Boyle or Corbin or anyone else wants DJ Hunter they are gonna have to shell out plenty of goodies. Hunter is just finishing up his sophomore year and he's already on his second HS(started in Mississippi, now in Tennessee) and looking for a third. HS and college athletics is in the damn $hitter.

DJ Hunter the UK commit from Knoxville Bearden. His coach was just let go. I assume that’s who is being referenced. He’s in the same class as Salmon’s kid.

Mason's a helluva defensive player. Let him focus on knocking the snot out of running backs and receivers. and let the future UK Wildcat get you two rings. Two rings is better than no rings. Not gonna happen , though, if past history is any indicator. It was tried back in 1982. A stud athlete from down near the KY-Tenn border wanted to play football for the Corbin Redhounds. In fact, he did come down here and practiced with the team all summer. He was star three-sport athlete. Problem was, in the minds of some influential folks in this little hell hole of a village,  his skin was just too dark to be leading the Hounds football team as it's star QB. Kid's name was Jeff Kyle. He went back to Middlesboro that summer and finished his senior season as a Yellowjacket. He was first-team all state. Threw for 12 TDs, rushed for 11 TDs, returned 4 punts for TDs. He was Quisenberry before Quisenberry was cool. Meanwhile, the Hounds did okay without Jeff Kyle at QB. They won the AA state title that year. It was, in fact, their LAST state title. Btw, Jeff was interviewed in the infamous documentary about Corbin , entitled , "Trouble Behind."

You see, Old School is old. I've been around. My mom and dad conceived me in the back of a two-toned '57 Mercury in the parking lot at the old Town House Motel in downtown Corbin more than six damn decades ago.  No one knows this friggin' town any better than I do.  Make no mistake, unlike days of old, black kids are now visible on the playing fields in Corbin. And that's a very good thing. However, there are some things that will never change-- like the minds of some folks who believe a kid with a face too dark shouldn't be leading the team at QB. Kade Elam , with hair longer than Jesus and skin much whiter ; that's fine. Or a couple of black kids  on the defensive line--- that's fine. But a black kid at QB? We are still not there. There are still some old racists who have to die and go to hell first. Then maybe we'll see a DJ Hunter quarterbacking the Corbin Redhounds. This is not a hot take. It's a take comes from living in this town since before LBJ crushed the heart's of many Corbinites and signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. There were two blacks who could be seen frequently in Corbin when I was a young kid. One was a bellman at the Wilbur Hotel and the other shined shoes at a local barber shop. That was it. Shining shoes---that was okay, too. Quarterbacking for the Hounds---not then, and unfortunately, not now.

And so it goes. in a town famished for titles.  42 years ... and counting.

I guess I do not count kids who live here there whole life.. which 3 of those did.. One was a kid who came from another town, rumor is FC wrote Nate Mcpeek a check to sign off that his JV qb never played varsity.

I wish we had cars, girls and money go give.... We mostly only offer hard work, and misery and some nice gear! But seems like our kids learn how to play a little ball..... Maybe one of these days we can hang with the blue bloods.....

As stupid as the people around the Corbin football program are---and they are DAMN stupid---I can't see any school, even the mental midgets at Corbin ,telling DJ Hunter to move along somewhere else, kid. If Hunter's people call your people and DJ's people says DJ wants to be a Redhound, you say, Yes sir or yes mam, thank you sir or thank you mam. What can we do to make it happen?"

If someone can prove to me that the UK commit wanted to take his talents to Campbell Field and someone with authority said , "No, ain't happening." then I will never root for a Corbin football team ever again. As I said previously, wherever the stud kids like DJ winds up will be the school that is able to provide the most money, cars, bling & tail. That stuff goes on at the high school level, too. Don't be so naive to think otherwise.

Word is the QB position was already promised to someone else by Salmons. And the person it was promised to lives in the same house as Salmons. This is all hearsay coming from Corbin Wellness center by people who are dialed in. I’m not and don’t claim to be.

4 star QB puts them right back at the top of 4A imo. They would have been top 7 or so without him, but with him, i'd say they are top 3 or 4. Portal season in KY has become very entertaining.

I know all about promises. Promises, promises. Promises are meant to be broken. Sure, I know all about the promise. When Salmons was hired, the deal was, Elam mans the QB ship the first year and then it"s Mason's job for the next two. But... I say if a UK commit comes along and wants to quarterback your team to two straight titles , you break some promises and deal with family discontent. Trophies trump family.   Can you imagine if DJ Hunter did contact Corbin, wanting to be a Redhound and was told the job is already taken by the coach's son and he winds up in the hands of your old coach , who mentors DJ into the state's best player leading the state's best team to two more trophies? It would be the end of Salmons here. Angry townsfolk would run him out of town like they did the 200 black folks they forced on to freight trains back on Halloween night in 1919.

Read my lips and my previous post. Ain't no youngster with a non-ivory white face quarterbacking the Corbin Redhounds in the new "House that Cox Built" on the banks of the beautiful Lynn Camp Creek. A tremendous black athlete named Jeff Kyle tried it back 43 years ago, and was told to go back home to Middlesboro ...and " do not drink from our water fountain on the way out the door." Fortunately, a lot of those  influential old racists have died and, hopefully, gone to hell. A few more still need to go before progress can be made.

I'm gonna hang out in a few barber shops and massage parlors this week and see if I can get the lowdown on our QB situation and whether DJ Hunter's people really did contact Corbin about playing here or if that's just an old ex-wives' tale coming from the Wellness Center.  My guess is that a couple of the Corbin School Board members got wind that the stud's services were up for the highest bidder and they went over to East Tennessee to try to work a deal to Bring DJ to Corbin . You know, the same two Board members who made the trip over to Danville to try and buy Haddix' services.  Yes, that's against KHSAA rules but who cares about rules when trophies are at stake... right?

The way I understood it, it was a done deal. This is sounding more and more like Twitter handles trying to pick UK's next basketball transfer. Not many people truly know. Still an interesting thing to keep up with for the next couple months.

I was just reading in here and thought the Hunter kid was a done deal to Corbin. I have zero inside info but i guess i was just reading too much into the thread. I figured Hunter to Corbin was a lock. Again, no inside info, just jumping the gun i guess because of recent pulls of UK commits. (Twins a couple years back)

LOL ^^^ thats pretty good

Not to bring up Boyle in a Corbin thread but that would be an interesting move by Haddix too as they return their QB that only threw 1 INT last year. Would really shake up that roster(and possibly the fan base) if he indeed went to Boyle.

That's a good point. I have seen dissention within the ranks tear a team apart. It happened to a good Corbin team a few years back. Their QB, turned RB, actually quit the team for a few days, before returning. Bringing in someone from the outside who has a history of hopping from school to school like an Easter bunny can have negative ramifications for the team, the school, and the community. Hunter is looking for his third school in as many years.

Does anyone want to back up therir salacious claims that Joshua Luke Salmons told DJ Hunter, "no" ? I don't believe our coach is that stupid.

I do not but according to another site, a certain player will end up at a school not named Corbin.
