Powell County open
#1
Looks like Coach Marion is hanging it up. I saw Head and Assistant jobs are open. What is next for them?

Powell County loses all five starters to graduation from a team that finished the season 3-25 and the hire will have a big rebuilding job welcoming them. But as large as their school is (3rd largest enrollment in the 14th just behind Perry and Letcher) Stanton is a good place for an energetic and basketball smart coach to land. They will build back with the right person at the helm.

Any news on this one?

Only news I’ve heard is that there have been plenty of applications.

I seriously doubt it.

If coaches are looking for immediate success then Powell probably isn’t for them, but if they are looking for a school that has tons of potential to build a strong program then the job opening should attract a lot of applicants. I mean, it is the 3rd largest school in the region (which is a position that gets alternated from year to year with neighbor Estill…., both schools have approximately 650 high school enrollment) and definitely have the numbers to develop some talent with the right person at the helm. That’s just my take on the subject. I will also add that the poor win-loss record last year is really an anomaly for Powell. Last season is the worst girls basketball season they have had since the KHSAA resumed girls basketball in 1975. Let me assure you that will not be the trend in Stanton. Within a few years they will be competitive imo.

What makes you seriously doubt it???
I’m talking about building a competitive program, not winning a string of regional titles. And with a school of their size (which is larger than schools such as Knott, Breathitt, Leslie, Hazard) that is certainly within the realm of possibility.

Did they ever make a hire for this position?

How many have applied?

A bunch according to some sources. Probably a couple parents or aunts and uncles.
