New Construction in Pikeville
#1
Anybody have any idea what will be going in on the site of the old Western Steer building? People from around the area will know that they just tore down the old building next to Holiday Inn a few weeks ago, and I just noticed that they are working there again. It looked to me today that they have finished putting in a foundation for a new building.

So, any rumors about whether it's going to be a new restaurant, new store, or just some new building for the Holiday Inn? Or better yet, not just a rumor but actually something confirmed?

If you are talking about the steakhouse/Paul's Place/the million other things that that building has been called, I'm not entirely sure. When I drove by a couple of weeks ago I didn't see a new foundation down or anything. It could POSSIBLY be more parking for the hotel. I've not heard anything certain though.

Whatever it's going to be, it's already cursed.

No business has ever lasted in that specific location.

Exactly. Might as well be a parking lot.

It's definitely not a parking lot, I saw a concrete foundation for some type of building. It also looked like there were pipes coming up out of the concrete.

I guess no one on here has any idea. With our luck, it'll probably be yet another car wash... Sad

The new building going in at the Holiday Inn Express location is the new home of the Kentucky Blood Center.

Bet that excites alot of people that were hoping for another fast food restaurant.

I heard they served some nice warm sandwiches at the blood bank. Smile

Like Pikeville needed another fast food restaurant. I'm actually glad it will be something useful.

I wasn't hoping for a fast-food place, we've certainly got enough of those around here. I was actually hoping it would be a nicer, "sit-down" type of restaurant.

Still, like tribe said, at least it is going to be something that will benefit the community. And it's NOT a car wash... Smile

Wasn't saying you wanted a fast food place but I know several that were
A nice sit down place would be good...maybe a Japanese Steakhouse.

No nice(? haha) sit down place every made it there anyway.

Part of the reason could be it's not so easy access to just come off from the highway and pull into the parking lot. The places that do put in there having high prices and not so good food is probably the other part...

I remember the Western Steer stayed there for a long time. I'm not sure sure how long, but it was there as far as I can recall into my childhood. I ate there a lot growing up, and the food wasn't all that bad. They actually had pretty good rolls! Big Grin

Yea, that's about the only place that I remember being there for a while but it was so long ago that I wasn't even sure that it was for sure THERE in that location when I was trying to remember.

All of the other steakhouses after that sucked and were gone pretty quick.

It hasn't really been that long, has it? I know it was still the Western Steer about 10-11 years ago, because I remember going to some kind of family dinner there in summer of 1997. After that, I'm not sure what happened.

"Paul's Place" or "The Olde Mill" sure didn't last long did they?

I just remember it being there for a long time and then 2 or 3 places after it failing miserably. I don't remember the year that Western Steer went out though. Hadn't ate them in a long time even before it shut down.
