Newport, coming off the huge win over Holmes sounds like a lock. However, many thought they would be a lock to make it to the finals in the All A, only to lose their 1st round game. This game feels a lot like that situation.

If Newport can play defense like they did against Holmes, Christian County will be blown out with out a doubt. Newport has one of the best starting 5's in the state. I haven't seen CC play but i heard they have some problems handeling the ball and with little bradon sizemore guarding point you better watch how you handle the ball.

Newport a "lock" over Christian County? You've got to be kidding.

Blow out? Did you guys even go to the Sweet 16 last year? Christian County is one of the better teams in the tournament.

I'll be rooting for the old Legion of Doom, Newport by 10

They didn't make it last year to the sweet sixteen because are team wasn't that good, the team that we have now they have been playing together since elementary ball and have a lot of chemistry together especially after beating Holmes which CC obviously couldn't do in the Joe B Hall classic

I dont know where the information about CC having trouble handling the ball came from but some consider their point guard to be their best player as well as 1 of the best pgs in the state.

Newport by 12.
McDaniel could have a field day down low but CC is a very quick team.

I will be rooting for Newport, but minus the kid who went off for 26 against Holmes, Newport didn't have anyone that looked really comfortable handling the ball. Holmes did not exploit that and did not use full court pressure nearly enough vs. Newport and the wildcats had there way with the Dogs.
I think just the opposite will happen here, CC will use its athletic guards to get in the faces of the newport players full court and they will be able to cause some turnovers and get some easy transition baskets.
I am rooting for the 9th and would love to see Newport prove me wrong but I am going to have to go with CC in this one by about 10

Holmes stopped pressing because Newport broke it easy and got lay-ups and whenever Foster would pick up his dribble Collins and McDaniel would get the ball and have their way also.
IMO Newport will hand the pressure and win by about 12

Holmes stopped pressing and Newport broke the pressure because Holmes is not a pressing team, that is a measure that Henley only pulls out in desperate situations. Foster is a heck of a player and he handled it very well, but the other kids were not comfortable with it at all. Christian Co. will press and will be more effective with it than Holmes was, they do it more often than Holmes. Holmes defensive strenght is in the half court not 50 feet from the basket. CC will defend the entire court.

Which team will dictate tempo? That's the key. In last year's Sweet 16 first-round game, Holmes had the athletes and the depth to run with Christian County. Newport has the athletes but not the depth. This could be the best first-round game in the tournament. Is Christian County good enough to win it all? I don't know, I haven't seen them play this year, but their record (29-4) is highly impressive. Also, don't overlook the experience factor. CC played at Rupp last year. Newport hasn't been in the Sweet 16 in half a century. I also think CC wins this one by about 10 -- 70 to 60.

I will be pulling for Newport in this one. Hope they bring the big trophy back, but to say they are going to blow Christian County out is crazy IMO. Hickey and Foster will be a great match up. This is a game from Earlier this season. http://www.ihigh.com/school224/broadcast_106204.html; They play fast. It will be no easy task for NPT. Go Wildcats !!!

Guys, I admit that the blowout win over Holmes was probably the most impressive win by anyone in the state all year. But I think everyone is going a little overboard here. Yes, Newport seems to be putting it all together at the right time. But it's not like they're going up against chopped liver. Christian Co. has been a consensus Top 10 team all year long, and should not be discounted so easily.
Myself, I think Christian Co. has proven that they can win on the big stage, and I'm going to go with CC by 4.
