Paintsville looked like they didn't want to win at all. It's crazy that all of MC's touchdowns came from defensive plays. Magoffin had i think 46 yards of total offense and they had over 200 yards on defense lol... Defense wins championships.

Congrats Magoffin. A "W" is a "W" no matter how you get it.

Paintsville has a solid defensive coordinator now that pete diabo is helping. Problem is the head coach isn't very good and that's well known all around town. The middle school staff as a whole is better than the high school. Every year their are excuses that a few on here like to make for kinner when its painfully obvious the excuses have run out. Get a coach that knows the game and let jason kinner be an assistant

For the most part they are better in many ways than teams in the recent past. I for one have special feelings for this bunch. They could have been very good. There is a very talented bunch in the wings at PHS but my fears are that they will fade to the wind as
the 18 of 4 years ago did. Why ? If you had that answer there would be no problem. But there has to be great frustration in the program and the community. You just can't afford to loose good kids in Class A football. My biggest fear is that if the Tigers fail to to hit at least 500 this year with this schedule in hand , that might be curtains for the Program.

here we go again, lose one game and lets fire kinner, the middle school staff is not even close to being able to coach high school football. guess who is over the defensive side of the ball, head coach kinner not pete, so get your facts straight before say'n he can't coach. so if your child is going to play football next year he will play for head coach kinner or not play, or you can move him, either way they will be a team, just loose 3 from this years squad so they will be bigger, faster, stronger, this is a prep year for the young talent. lets try to support the team not put them down, they do get on here and read what is said about them and there coaches.:moon:

I think he is basing his decision on the last 2-3 seasons, not the losing the last game. How low will Paintsville let their program go before they say enough is enough?

This was a game that Paintsville should've won. Magoffin is in a down year and didn't really have much coming back. Does anyone think Paintsville's program can ever get back to the proud program it has historically been for years and years? I don't think Kinner is 100% the problem. Kinner is a defensive guy through and through. He took over the defense this year and through two games they have given up one touchdown. So before the finger pointing starts it needs to go somewhere else. Paintsville needs to get someone in there who is an offensive mind and understands how to call a game. Paintsville doesn't have a offensive style that they can hang their hat on at the end of the day. I don't think until the play calling gets better Paintsville will get better and progress as a program. Is there anyone that would be a good hire to call the plays for Paintsville?

Like I stated before, jason should be an assistant coach over the defense. His win-loss record proves my point. Look how weak of a coaching staff he surrounds himself with every season as well. Runs off good help every time he gets good assistants. His record is 14 wins and 22 losses. If political bull crap wasn't involved he would have been replaced. Jim tom would have done a fine job and won almost as many games as Jason has and in only a two year span. Look how successful jt is in pburg and look how terrible things are at Paintsville. That sophomore class has talent and needs a good coach like burrhead. Jason would be a good assistant but was never ready or capable of being a good head coach. Jason needed time as an assistant to prove he was capable of being the head coach. He never earned anything and just had it handed to him. Get burrhead back and let jason run his defense and Paintsville will win games again

Congrats to magoffin co and coach mccoy. Chester has done a great job for magoffin county. As far as paintsville goes, their is a lot of good young talent that has the potential to be good in the future.

The middle school staff is very capable of coaching high school football. Your badly mistaken on that topic of discussion.

I just don't think Jason would be willing to give up his position and be an assistant coach ever. Paintsville just need to get someone in there to help their offense because that is the problem. With the comment about Jim Tom, I will have to say I agree 100%. From what I hear he wasn't a bad coach but was never gonna be given a chance at PHS. Paintsville needs to get Joe Chirico back at Painstville and get some of the useless coaches off the staff.

To get the program on the right track they have to do something that will bring excitement to the program. I would say that it would hurt jasons pride to be an assistant and that's understandable but it would help him tremendously in the long run to work under a coach like burr and then possibly be a head coach. Joe probably wouldn't come back and help paintsville for obvious reasons. A new offensive coordinator would help possibly. I was disappointed that the fannin kid wasn't the qb this year. That kid has a good arm and would have been a serious threat for opposing defenses because he is damn good at running the ball as well. Another good idea is that arms twin coming to be the head coach. Worked under a great coach for years, is a phs alumni, and is someone that could energize the program. If I'm not mistaken he has coached more football then Jason and could help jhn Doug with baseball. I've heard several old and young alumni mention how he would be a great head coach. I say, why not try it? I don't know him personally but anyone that is a top assistant for a excellent coach like Jim matney has to be a pretty good coach. At this point in time it's worth the risk to try it.

Would like to wish the young tigers goodluck this season. You all have the talent to have a good year and I look forword to watching you kids play ball.

No. This is not even close to being the answer to Painstville's problems. I would question how much football they really even know.

Why do you say that? Boy has coached under matney for years and is a top defensive assistant. Bet he knows more than you think

I'm not saying they don't know football but I just don't think they are what the Paintsville school system needs at this low point. I think they would be good additions to assist coach Kinner.

I doubt the kid would leave what he has at jc to be an assistant. Im out of ideas, I just want to see the program succeed. I just love matneys coaching and have been a fan of his for years. Arms has worked for him five or six years and the kid played college ball. Got a good coaching and playing pedigree that might be the ticket to winning for phs. With a new coach, regardless of sport, their is a great deal of excitement. Might be the only choice they have. Jason might solve his problem with a new o coordinator as well, but the problems might run deeper than that.

Good win for Magoffin..

I am not familiar with the coaching situation at PHS,but I do know that they have a large class of sophomores (16) coming up and they need to solve the coaching situation now so these soph's can develop. With that many soph's there's bound to be some talent there. It could be enough to get the program rolling again.

To make a long story short, fans are tired of losing. The program has dropped because of the weak coaching the past few years. Last year they had like two or three assistants that didn't play he football and a defensive coordinator that rarely played defense when he was in school. The head coach was a good defensive player in his day but was upgraded to the Hc with little coaching experience. Perfect combination to set a program up for failure. The Hc is a nice guy but was set up to fail from the beginning. And hurt himself by not getting better assistance to help him out. If he gets better help he might win in a few years but im not sure if he will be given more time. Will just have to wait and see. I hope he proves me wrong and turns it around

Painfully obvious your a coach on this staff. I figured it out awhile back but I respect that you always have an answer for negative comments made about this situation as a whole. Even if they make little sense in my book, its still respectable. No matter what team you follow, regardless of sport,no one wants them to lose. Several decades of winning tend to spoil people and when you hit an all-time low its expected to have a bad following. Running off alumni and replacing them during this span of down years with unqualified people doesn't help this situation. Having two men in the coaching box during games with no playing or coaching experience was one of the craziest coaching moves I have witnessed in my time of watching sports and occurred during last season. Seen it with my own eyes as well as anyone else that attended ball games last year. Where did that make any sense? As far as this year goes I like that Diabo is helping out and think he was a good addition to the staff. I like the young talent on the team as well and think that with good coaching they can be tough. Hope this gets turned around and good luck the rest of the season.

Actually I'm just an Alum that doesn't buy that it is Kinner's fault. I genuinely care about this program, and love Paintsville sports but I just can't see how anyone else could do much better. Short of one person. And that person would be Coach lemaster. It pains me every week to see him running the scoreboard at games when I know he could help this team out so much. Our main problem has been the offense, That was true when Jim Tom was coach and it is true now. Honestly we would have been better off in this game against magoffin county to take a knee and punt after our first touchdown instead of trying to run an offense. We gave up something like 40 yards to their offense, and Jason told those boys where every play was going to go. It was a fun Defense to watch. But man on the other side of the ball it was pathetic. Miscues, Fumbled snap after fumbled snap, interceptions, bad option pitches. It wasn't as much a lack of talent or coaching as it was that they let one mistake snowball into another, then another then four touchdowns later we were kept scratching our heads wondering how we let a team this bad beat us. And I mean no Offense to MC's fans but we were Lining up in the Bone and powering them like the old days. It was beautiful to watch. It was what has been missing at paintsville for years, then we ran the option and had a bad pitch returned for a TD and it was like there was to point to even run the offense after that. My girlfriend even asked me at one point and I quote " Why do we keep doing this stuff, we need to stay in the wishbone thingy and run it right up the middle they can't stop it" (On a side note I was imensely proud she said that) Hell My friggen girlfriend saw what the fellas running the offense couldn't. That is my problem, and Burr would fix it in a heartbeat.

When does a o coordinator overrule a head coach? If im not mistaken didn't the head coach pick the coordinator? Who decided who started at each position. Lmao then u all blame it all on jimmy. Always got an excuse

Tough loss for Tigers & congrats to Magoffin as I didn't think Hornets would win this one.
Agree with some of earlier posts that when some of the long-time assistants were no longer on the sidelines the program has suffered.
