Birds' O-Line just man-handled JC's all night! Big hits on both sides of the ball.
Birds' Defense dismantled JC's Offense! Thought JC's RB was a stud but NKY has several better...
Thoughts and prayers go out to the injured players on both sides.

Very hard fought and physical game by both teams. As I have been every year we've played JC, I was impressed with their toughness and don't quit attitude.
I would appreciate it if the JC fans could keep us informed as to the condition of the young JC player who had to leave in an ambulance.
If you haven't already said a prayer for him and his family, please do.

My take on the game.
Jude has been held in check this year (at least according to his lofty standards) by good defenses. Highlands has a good defense. So Jude will likely get some yards but doubtful that JC can score enough to pull out a win.
JC's defense has given up some points this year. Highlands can score a lot of points. Barring any severe weather issues, Highlands will score a lot of points in this game.
Prediction: Highlands 60 JC 20
I wore my Pecos coat in your honor last night. You were right. It does insulate your sitting region against the cold benches. I'm starting to think that you're only half as dumb as the nuns always said. :eyeroll:

Towles is a nice looking quarterback. Wish him and the team lots of luck. However, hope he can get use to lossing after this great run at Highlands. UK is not the top notch program he is use too. In for a real dose of reality. Don't see UK being a threat anytime in the near or far future. Hard hits from the SEC can weed out the boys from the men.
However, as a UK fan hope for the best. Tired of being big Football Lossers in the SEC or to any team. Go UK Basketball!

How did this turn into a "UK Football Sucks" thread??? That sounded a little disingenuous in the congrats to Patrick.... It was like "Hey kid, great job BUT...."

No disprespect, but Towles's expectation level is quite a bit higher than yours is. Folks who go into something with the debbie downer attitude generally don't succeed. The first step you have to take if you're tired of losing is start being positive. The program he comes from is top notch because of the positive atmosphere.

As I have been reading this thread, it seems that the number of penalties against Highlands in last night's game was uncharacteristically high - with many of them being of the 10 to 15 yard variety. To what do Highlands' fans attribute that stat?
No dig at the Bluebirds intended with the question. It just seems strange that a team as talented and disciplined as Highlands would have that many major penalties.

A couple of them were deserved, which I attribute to it being an emotionally charged playoff atmosphere, high adrenaline, and boys being boys. Others were not so clear cut, which I attribute to Lexington refs not knowing much about football, understandable when you see the bulk of the teams down there play. Facemasks are going to happen, and there isn't in incidental call in high school.

You may be right...and to my knowledge, there is also no "horse collar" penalty in high school.

I didn't think so, but there was a flag.

I guess this game shows how good the Bluebirds really are this year!! But, on the flipside, JC is practically one dimensional and that won't fly when playing one of the top teams in the state!
Congrats Bluebirds!!

There is a horse collar and there is also a 5 yard face mask in high school football.

I agree some where deserved, but what about the one on the kick off when the return man dropped the ball and he and the HHS player both dove for it. The JC player got there first and when the HHS player landed on top of him they call a PF late hit. That was a bad call.
They play when a JC player had the ball with a HHS defender on his back, and Bruns(I think) came over and hit him and it drove all three out of bounds; how was that a late hit? It looked like the refs had it in for Burns.
JC was also called for a late hit in second half that I thought was a bad call, so it went both ways.
One of the face mask calls happened right in front of me, and the defenders forearm was around his mask, but no hand was near it. Correct me if I am wrong, but that is no face mask.
Against JC, HHS was able to over come all the penalties, but against CCH a bad refed game could cost either team big. I just hope we have good refs for next week, so it is decided on the field and not by the refs.

The ref's sucked.

I knew this would be a tough game for Central. Going to Highlands is always a tough task to perform. I didn't think it would be an absolute blowout. Congrats to Highlands. Can't wait to see what next year brings between these two teams!

Amen. They assign all these refs to works different areas of the state. Highlands occasionally gets stuck with these refs from Buford Co. and they can't keep up with the speed of the game. I'm also sure it would help the team from their area of the state if Highlands was eliminated. None of these teams want to play Highlands. For example, Johnson Central's hour long expose last year at the state meeting on why Johnson should be in 5A instead of 4A because the road trips would be safer. If you can't beat them, cheat them, or don't play them at all.

I met some nice people from Johnson Central. They had a lot of good, intelligent, well-informed fans. Unlike many teams, I also had the misfortune of listening to some of the most unintelligent gibberish I've ever heard at a football game. Lot's of whining and crying and Highlands was the one getting all the penalties. Also, I've made a personal vow that next time I hear someone cheering a player getting hurt, or calling out for players to injure someone, I won't sit back and listen to it. I'm just thankful I wasn't over in the section with the fights breaking out, otherwise I'm sure I'm in the middle of it. After hearing about who was ready to fight over there, all the money I got is on the Highlands guy.

NO FIGHTS broke out. I was right behind the whole thing. A JC fan said something 5 - 6 rows infront of some Highlands fans after Sheehan had been uncerimoniously brought to the turf. Three of them took exception (can you detect a note of understatement here?) and stood up to discuss their displeasure. Some pleasantries were exchanged and it was over. However, had things escalated, you were right in where your money should have been placed.

It's like the fella who wants to proclaim, "My daddy could beat up your daddy," but who knows that his daddy couldn't whip a scarecrow. What's a boy to do? Well, he just adopts the toughest guy in the neighborhood as his own and takes him to show-and-tell day.

I never predicted a JC win but said that the game would be closer than a lot of people expected if they could avoid turning the ball over. Turnovers killed JC but otherwise, they moved the ball against Highlands very well. Their defense was another matter, as they were pretty much at Towles's mercy. No surprise there, JC is a very young team that went up against a potent and very experienced offense, which is why it was so important for the Golden Eagles to control the time of possession and avoid mistakes. They did neither and nobody expected the game to be close unless JC played a near perfect game.
I did find it very interesting that Coach Mueller had his first team offense in the game with a 4th quarter, 40-point lead, and didn't pull them until the lead hit 47 points. Yet, I have not read the first post about Mueller leaving Towles in the game to pad his stats, nor have I read anybody who was concerned that Towles might have been injured again in a blowout win with a playoff game against an excellent Covington Catholic team coming up next Friday.
Mueller must have really been upset that Johnson Central scored in the first quarter and that it scored twice in one half against his first string defense in the first half.
Anyway, congrats to Highlands on its win. Good luck Colonels next week!
