Defensive battle. At the half BC had 6 first downs, LexCath only 4. Time of Possession favored BC in the first half almost 2 to 1. But score was 7-0 LC at half. Bolye tied the game with a long drive after stopping the opening LC drive in the second half. LexCath got to the 2 yard line on a long pass. But a penalty pushed them back and they settled for a field goal. A BC fumble and key 4th down stop by LC defined the rest of the game.
Congratulations to the Boyle County seniors for a not only a great season but a great 4 years. They have lots to be proud of.
Congratulations to the Knights. The offense can strike anytime from anywhere And the defense has overachieved all year and the defense got it done tonight against some outstanding players.
Next week is next week and that discussion can wait a day or so. Tonight was a very good knight for the Knights.

Sounds like it was the Futility Bowl.

Sounds like two very talented and well-coached teams in a old fashioned dog fight. I'm a BC fan and alum, and though it's unlikely, I sure hope LexCath beats Highlands next week because of stuff like that.

Pay him no mind, some say he's half a bubble off plumb anyway.
Congrats Knights on a good win. Congrats Rebels on a tough loss. I still love this rivalry.

Yep, a field goal better tonight. I'm just glad we had the opportunity to play again tonight. I love the playoffs.

Congrats to LexCath, they flat out beat Boyle tonight. I couldn't see the questionable 2nd fumble by Hester, so I can't really comment on it. The defense tonight did all you could ask of them. Holding a Lexington Catholic team with a division one QB to 10 points is great in my opinion. I felt like on the offensive side Boyle was out-coached. The play calling in the first half was extremely predictable. Boyle threw one more pass after their drive in which they drove and scored via the pass. And I very much disagreed with the play call on that final 4th down. But I gotta give credit to LC, they earned this win.

Dang. I got this pick wrong. However, congrats to the Rebels on a great season!

Because of the score i guess. Much like that Alabama/LSU game was futility. How about two pretty good defenses? It's one thing to down play every accomplishment a team has had but it's different to continually show an arrogant attitude towards every other team other than yours. I can honestly say I have never cared for your opinion on this site. It's possible question whether two D's played very well or two O's played sub par. It's also possible to say it without being disrespectful or insulting.

A little of both. Boyle was fairly predictable but LexCath did not set up the pass using the run at all and was out of synch with random plays it seamed.
Both defenses played better than expected.

Sorry, I should have said offensive futility. But let's not mention these 2 teams in the same sentence as Alabama and LSU. How about maybe Duke/Rice football? We'll see how good Lexcath is next week. They may well end Highlands run. Afterall, the eliminated a 3 time champ. Congrats to the Boyle Srs. A 4 year run to be proud of. I'm sure Boyle will be even better next year.

Oh yes and now sarcasm. Such a fine individual. LexCath will not end Highlands run but will try I'm sure.

Lexcath did end a nice run by Boyle. The Srs of Boyle did have a great career. That was a good class. And yes, Boyle will be better next year. No sarcasm in any of that. Boyle's program is top notch and is repected by all. When not winning a state title is a bad year by your programs standards, you're a top program.

As the final seconds ticked off the clock on Lexington Catholic's 10-7 victory over Boyle County in the Class 4A quarterfinals Friday night, Trey Mattingly couldn't contain his excitement and thrust both arms into the air.
The host Knights, who lost to Boyle County in the playoffs the previous three years, had settled a score with the two-time defending state champs and earned a shot at unbeaten Highlands next week.
And Mattingly had the biggest tackle of the night.
Lexington Catholic was clinging to its 10-7 lead, but the Rebels were on the march. They had fourth and 1 at the Knights' 41 with just over three minutes left.
Boyle County gave the ball to 225-pound Zach Hester, who smashed into the left side of the line where he was met head-on by the 235-pound Mattingly.
Mattingly won the battle, and stymied Hester until teammate Anthony Kersey helped wrestle Hester to the turf, short of the first down.
Lexington Catholic took possession and ran out the clock on its biggest win since its state title in 2007.
"Oh my goodness, that's the biggest play of my career," a breathless Mattingly said.
"I knew they were going to sweep to that side, and I somehow was able to fight through and get him."
Knights Coach Bill Letton said it "looked like two bulls trying to run each other out of the center of the ring."
Mike Lynch, a junior cornerback who had seven tackles and recovered two fumbles, wasn't surprised by Mattingly's big hit.
"Trey's psycho, honestly," he said with a laugh. "He's always ready and he's gonna win the game for us."
That play was emblematic of Lexington Catholic's defensive effort all night. It limited Boyle County's potent rushing attack to 136 yards, holding Devon Cox to just 60 yards on 19 carries. The Rebels were forced to the air, where Casey Whittle threw for 103 yards, including a 9-yard TD to Hester
