Final

Holy Cross!

Wow, the whining by the radio announcers were incessant throughout the first half because of clock issues. Game could have been 14-14 at the half. But that does not explain the 2nd half complete failure by Somerset to stop HC's offense. The announcer even had to eat his own words later in the broadcast when he admitted that the clock issue had NOTHING to do with the outcome of the game!

Thought Holy Cross has a state runner up in basketball. Could be wrong though.

We will have to wait for Crossback or Toussaints to help us with this one, but I did not think they had a State finals before

Didn't they lose in the Basketball finals back in the 60's to Breckinridge Co.? I might be wrong. Know they made the final 4 in B-Ball in the 90's once.

Holy Cross girls softball won two state championships in slow pitch in 2005 and 2006.

Congrats Indians!!!

Slow pitch was no longer sanctioned and there was only about 9 teams playing slow pitch by then. Beating 8 teams within the 275 beltway can hardly be considered a state title. Please don't ever bring up slow pitch softball titles again. You're starting to sound like NCCfan.

Shoutout to the Briar Jumpers on a great 2011 season!

I was merely answering a question from somebody else about Holy Cross history in team state tournaments. What I mentioned is recognized by KHSCA on their website. Those girls were recognized as state champs regardless of how many teams were involved. Nobody can take it away from them. Here is the link:

Looks like Kyle had to battle out of his two INT's, but boy did he make up for it. Another great game by the young man!

First off I want to thank the Somerset seniors, it has been a pleasure watching you guys grow up from flag football through high school and you guys truly made me proud to be a Jumper. Thanks for the memories and best of luck to you all in the future.

To the underclassmen, you guys were huge for our team this year and are going to be great again next year if you put in the work. Next season starts Monday. I'm proud of you guys for working your butts off this season to help the team. Let's go to work and bring it home next year.

To the Holy Cross players, best of luck to you guys next week. You seemed like a classy group out there on the field and you play the game the way it's supposed to be played.

Now about the game. I'm not going to say it affected the game because I'm not that guy, but that officiating crew combined with whoever was working the clock made for the most disorganized out of control football game I have seen at any level. Newport needs to hold workshops on how to work the clock or something because that was awful. I'm not going to get too into it because it's over I don't live in the past I get past it, but it wasn't a 48 minute game. I couldn't tell you if it was longer or shorter because sometimes the clock ran after change of possession, sometimes it didn't run during the play, and then sometimes it was several MINUTES off. Terrible game.

Great game first half by both teams. Second half was all HC. Somerset has a good team that would be better if they worried as much about making a pkay as they do trying to hit hard and try to hurt the other team. The second hakf they switched from pkaying their game to trying to hurt our players so we could not play ours, that is why they lost. Keep your focus on the game and you could have kept it closer.

Just finished celebrating the victory for tonight. Couldn't be happier for my football brothers at Holy Cross. It's crazy thinking after 12 years of football that this program is going to the state finals.

I thought Somerset would be rusty starting the game after a long bus ride, but they came out hitting HC and forced some HC mistakes that lead to points. However, Somerset hit a brick wall in the 3rd quarter after they gave up a long TD pass to Eric Walker. That next drive Somerset was stuffed on a 4th and 2, and it was all Holy Cross after that.

Congrats to Somerset on a wonderful season, I understand when you get this far and the game starts to get away from you its hard to keep your composure. Not making it an excuse for the 10 personal fouls in the 4th quarter, but I understand it. As for Holy Cross, I'll see ya in Bowling Green!!!

Also, this is Holy Cross 4th trip to the state finals.
1965 in boys basketball
2000 in girls soccer
2003 in girls soccer
2011 in football

they won 2 slow pitch state championships and a boys indoor state title, but neither are recognized by the KHSAA

First off, I'm going to say that I agree the way our players reacted in the second half was unacceptable. That is not the way Somerset football is played and I have no shame in admitting that I was not happy about the way they handled themselves at all. As for trying to hurt your players, I think that is a little bit of a stretch. Things got chippy, mostly by us I will admit, but I don't ever remember seeing a player for either side trying to take people out of the game. The worst incident I remember was when Lange and an HC player got into it after going to the ground in the backfield and a Somerset lineman jumped in trying to knock the HC guy off of him, as any lineman would do for their quarterback.

Again I will admit our players lost their composure where they have got to stay disciplined at the end of the big games like this. They were obviously getting frustrated by all of the penalties and the growing margin in the second half, but nobody was trying to intentionally hurt players to get back in the game or to take them out for next week.

We did not lose because we were unsuccessful at hurting your players.

I mean, did that second half really happen? It was like watching two completely different games. Sorry I'm still grieving. Time to move on to next year though. Good luck to you guys again Native Americans.
