Ask LWC (Clean Version)
#1
I am borrowing this concept from EKUAlum05, but I am putting it in the Gen. Discuss. forum, and attempting to keep it clean.

Ask me any question that you want, and I will answer. Please keep it at least PG-13. I reserve the right not to answer, but 99% of the time I will.

Ask away!

Good idea.

Seeing as to how your a man of religion, and a great source to ask, do you believe one form of religion, or even one branch of a form of religion, will ever be the vast majority of religion for people here in the U.S., or do you think we will always have great diversity?

For example, do you think Christianity will reach out so far in the muslim world and other parts of the planet that it will some day be the vast majority just as the Catholic faith seemed to be hundreds of years ago?

Outside of the day our Lord returns, no. I do not believe there will ever be a super-majority religion.

Dusty, I had a feeling that you would hit me with one of these questions. Give me some time to get a fully Bible-based answer. Many will disagree with it, so I want to have some backing.

NEWARKCATHOLICFAN Wrote:Why is Sunday "worship day"?

Normally, I answer my own questions, but I saw this link that had a great answer. Pay particular attention to this paragraph:

Quote:Scripture never mentions any Sabbath (Saturday) gatherings by believers for fellowship or worship. However, there are clear passages that mention the first day of the week, Sunday. For instance, Acts 20:7 states that “on the first day of the week we came together to break bread.” Paul also urges the Corinthian believers “on the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income” (1 Corinthians 16:2). Since Paul designates this offering as “service” in 2 Corinthians 9:12, this collection may have been linked with the Sunday worship service of the Christian assembly. Historically Sunday, not Saturday, was the normal meeting day for Christians in the church, and its practice dates back to the first century.

Christians worship on Sundays in celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is very important to remember, though, Sunday worship is not commanded in the Bible, and Sunday has not replaced Saturday and become the Christian Sabbath. While the New Testament describes Christians gathering and worshipping on Sundays, it nowhere states that Sunday has replaced Saturday as the Sabbath. They key point in all of this is that we are not to limit our worship to any particular day of the week. We are to rest in the Lord every day. We are to worship the Lord every day.

Okay Dusty,

Link

The above link gives a good answer but I just want to add something to it.

The link does not mention prophets or prophecy. I do believe that God can give the gift of prophecy to people today. I would not go as far as to say that it happens frequently or even semi-frequently. I am just saying that I believe God CAN give that gift to people today.

I will quickly add this, the Bible tells us:
1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 Wrote:Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good.
Also,
1 John 4:1 Wrote:Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

With those Scriptures in mind, what I gain from it is that we do not need to just categorically deny that prophecies can be given in today's time, but if what they say does not line up with the Bible, we should push it away. God's people will give God's Word.

Again, it's not popular, but I will always be the last person to deny God's power and grace for his people. I tend to believe that the role of Prophet is finished, but some people may be given prophecies today but they must line up with what is already written.

Can I explain it in Bible terms? No.

There is a verse in Job that talks about a Behemoth, there is a verse somewhere, maybe in Psalm that talks about the Leviathan, and there are others that people have come to think were dinosaurs.

There are many that believe the dinosaurs because they have a different view of creation. There is a growing theory in churches and especially in Seminaries that the world was not created in a literal 6 day-24 hour day format. We can get into that more later. I am still praying about that theory. If a person believes that theory, it makes things like the Big Bang, dinosaurs, etc... easier to believe.

Again, I did not say I believe it, but I have learned in my life to test everything to see if it is of God. If it is, I will hold on to it, if not, I will let it go.

http://www.gotquestions.org/cussing-swearing.html

Quote:It is definitely a sin to swear (curse, cuss, etc.). The Bible makes this abundantly clear. Ephesians 4:29 tells us, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." First Peter 3:10 declares, "For, whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech." James 3:9-12 summarizes the issue: "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."

James makes it clear that the lives of Christians—the “brothers”—should not be characterized by evil speech. By making the analogy of both salt water and fresh water coming from the same spring (which is uncharacteristic of springs), he makes the point that it is uncharacteristic for a believer to have both praise and cursing come from his/her mouth. Nor is it characteristic for us to praise God on one hand and curse our brothers on the other. This, too, is uncharacteristic of a true believer.

Jesus explained that what comes out of our mouths is that which fills our hearts. Sooner or later, the evil in the heart comes out through the mouth in curses and swearing. But when our hearts are filled with the goodness of God, praise for Him and love for others will pour forth. Our speech will always indicate what is in our hearts. “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45).

Why is it a sin to cuss / swear / curse? Sin is a condition of the heart, the mind, and “the inner man” (Romans 7:22), which is manifested in our thoughts, actions and words. When we swear and curse, we are giving evidence of the polluting sin in our hearts that must be confessed and repented of. Thankfully, our great God is “faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). When this happens, we receive a new nature from God (2 Corinthians 5:17), our hearts are transformed, and our speech reflects the new nature God has created within us.

Nope, blood brothers. He has two older brothers, James being the one most talked about in the bible.

Do you believe in new Earth, or old Earth? Also, how come some of the gospels say the women got to the tomb at dawn, and as the sun was rising, and some gospels say it was still dark?

Yes, James, Joseph, Simon and Judas were all his brothers and he also had sisters but I do not recall any Bible verses specifically stating that they were older.

Since we know that Mary was a virgin, if they were somehow older, knowing that Joseph was probably much older (custom in those days) they might have been his from another marriage.

I do not deny Jesus had brothers, I just have a hard time believing they were older, since Mary was a virgin at the time of Jesus birth.

We also know that Mary and Joseph were pledged to be married (in today's terms, that basically means they were married but sex wasn't allowed until the actual marriage) and the Bible tells us that they were not "together" until she had Jesus, any older siblings would not have been from Mary.

If you show me Bible, I will change my answer, until then, Jesus didn't have older brothers that were from Mary and Joseph being sexually together.
