People like Gay from Lexington Catholic ran 4.1/4.2's and they are skinny and what body fat they do have is ripped. Damien is not fat by an stretch of the imagination, but he is not built like that.
Did you mean Tyson Gay from Lafayette HS ( world class sprinter ) or Winston Guy from LexCatholic ( HS 100 meter record holder, who played UK football and an NFL draftee )???

Winston Guy ran 4.70 in the forty at the NFL Combine in February.

:yikes: :Shaking: wow. Now marked down as a "huge lost".

Guy ran 11.29 in the 100m dash as a senior in the AA state track meet. It was not a record. The KY high school record is held by Tyson Gay at 10.46.

Strikeout King Wrote:I wouldn't say that. Estill ran for just about 300 Yards on Rock. Coming into that game Rock hadn't allowed no more than 8 points a game on their defense and Estill put up 19.
Sheldon Clark - 60 Rushing Yards
Frankfort - (-1 Rushing Yards)
Whitley County - 176 Rushing Yards
Estill County - 289 Rushing Yards
So I wouldn't say that Estill can't run on Rock. Rock was just the better team and has been the better team against Estill for awhile.
I've talked to someone close to the Estill football program about the Schedules and he said that was probably gonna go old school and bring back there old opponents, like Morgan County (which we already play them), the Carters, Lewis, Nicholas, Fleming and the schools that they played back in the beginning of the 2000's
Playing a weak schedule like that should allow Estill to have a winning season, and lose in the opening round of the playoffs.
Estill had a very tricky offense this past season. In that I mean, they run a lot of fake handoffs, counters and reverses effectively in the offense. Rockcastle knew they had their hands full defensively when they saw game film on Estill before hand. Estill's weakness in the game this last year was on the defensive side. Numbers 12 and 15, and I believe, big number 75 were about the only ones that were impressive on defense to me. That offensive slight of hand they played was very confusing for a defense and I will say, well coached. The most impressed offensively I was with a team last year though during the entire season was with Knox Central and that suprise spread offense. That was like getting hit by a truck you didn't see coming.

Yeah, I was at the Knox Central game and was dumbfounded.

Heard from several people that rockcastle is going to throw it a lot due to lack of big backs.

Does he run a 4.1 or 4.2 forty. From what is going around rock is faster than most colleges.

If there was a kid who was 6'1, 225 lbs that ran a 4.15. I guarantee that they could skip high school and at the very LEAST play professionally somewhere.

No he just runs a 4.7

^Big difference.
Sounds like a very talented kid IF he knows how to play the position. In time, he can be scary-good!
He sounds like the kind of back that RIUTG wants to put in the backfield, lol.

Well rock fans should expect 10-0 season with so much talent and speed, I dare say a region championship or at least runner up.

You gotta have other players to back them up. having speed is great, but you can contain it. For example a few years back Madison southern had two of the fastest guys in the state in Rico Brown and Devon Johnson, That year madison southern went 1-9 that year. A fast running back is no good with out his line. Good players dont win Championships, good teams do. Rock has the potential to be good. But they got to prove it on the field.

In high school football, speed kills.
You all can talk 40 times all you want, but its how a kid runs on the field instead of a track.
Me myself, im partial to big backs with a little speed instead of small backs with a lot of speed. Weve always had full backs that were bruisers and it pays off well, especially in short yardage situations.

Is this the weakest schedule rock has had in a few years? Will they ever play teams like Corbin, bell or somerset again?
06-24-2012, 02:06 AM
^
No offense, but how would playing Corbin or Somerset be called "beefing" up their schedule?
Both teams are of a lower class. Bell is as well but Bell is Bell and is a good opponent for any class.
Id like to see these rivalry type games get started again, but considering Rock has to play in a region full of a lot of great teams including a couple in the same district (Knox, Russell) I think theyve scheduled pretty well. Dont forget Whitley and Perry are both 5A schools, so Rock is playing up in class on those.

I don't see much wrong with the Rock's schedule but to play Somerset (regardless of class) would be beefing up anyone's schedule. (Especially considering the last few years they've had)
It would be like adding Beechwood, Mayfield, Danville or recently Louisville Central. Sure they are of a smaller class but odds are they will be better than most in any class. (FWIW I don't think Corbin has been the Corbin of old for some time so scheduling them wouldn't do anything other than a regional rival)
06-24-2012, 12:59 PM
Wow, considering Corbin as a downgrade, Rock must be loaded, not to mention thinking since somerset is a lower class won't be much competition, rock must be really super loaded.

I would like to see Rock play somerset. But every time Rock AD trys to set it up With somerset, nothing gets done. Rock has allways gets invited to somersets bowl game but never gets to play somerset. With that said Somerset a good team. But i think they are on the same level as Perry Central or whitley County. If you want to upgrade add Bell, Lex cath, Highlands or Boyle. those are your powerhouse football teams right now
