rank - team - last season's record - thoughts
1. Highlands (15-0): no surprise here, despite losing a very strong senior class, but it's Highlands
2. CovCath (10-3): this might be CovCath's best chance at taking down Highlands. Bir will look to have a huge season
3. Boone County (9-5): graduated a strong senior class, but return a lot of experience and depth. they'll have the talent, just need to figure where to put them.
4. Ryle (7-5): probably the most talented team in NKY 6A, very tough schedule, depth is a concern and could become a huge problem if they get hit with a lot of injuries like last year.
5. NewCath (11-2): no more Hightchew, but they do return some experience on both sides of the ball. one of the early favorites in 2A
6. Conner (7-6): Barker to Fogle all year long, offense will be one of the best in 5A. too many questions on defense
7. Beechwood (12-2): lose Vocke and huge O'line, but return some key players like Max Nussbaum. biggest roadblock to state will be Mayfield again
8. Holy Cross (12-3): lost several key players, but they do return a lot of experience, especially on the O'line. one of the early favorites in 2A
9. Cooper (6-5): the district will be stronger, but Cooper has enough coming back to make them a big player in NKY 5A
10. Scott (4-6): how often do you see Scott in the top 10 for football?
Thoughts? Where's Lloyd?

I buy it on paper. This could be a breakout season for the Camels. I believe in Lickert but more importantly the players do. I'm not predicting a 10 win season but I expect them to compete more than recent years.

Cooper and Scott come on Really? I'd take any of the NKY 6A teams over those two. No way Scott could beat Dixie or Simon Kenton or even Campbell Co. Someone must have been drinking when they made this list

I would move Ryle to the number 3 spot above Boone and Cooper does belong at their spot. They are a very talented team that will give Conner a real run for the 5A district title. Northern Ky has a lot of very good teams this year that will go far into the playoffs this year.

I agree with you on Scott. But Cooper could make some noise. It is a big, young, school with some very good athletes. Cooper is making noise in all sports and I look for them to do well this year and years to come. I am not familiar with their coaching staff, so that could be a factor (good or bad).

It has been awhile since we have seen BC in the top three, and Beechwood down at #7.

true, but when you look at what beechwood lost from last year's team, it's hard to legitimately put them top 5.
im not big on preseason rankings, but they are fun. looking at the top 10 and thinking about what every team in nky has to look at this year. im shocked to see tsf rank scott over lloyd, campbell and holmes. im also a little surprised boone is ranked ahead of ryle

Hey man, with all do respect....We are talking about Scott High School which is located in Kenton County, NOT Scott County Cardinals in 6A.

Boone lost their entire offensive backfield.
All but one of their dbs.
All Lbs
All but one of their OL, I am pretty sure.
So, where is that experience and depth coming from?
They will not win more than three games.

Campbell County won the district last year and return basically everyone.
How do they not make the top 10?

boone was one of those rare teams last year that subbed a lot, so even though they lose a lot of starters from last years team, the guys filling in all have valuable varsity experience. i also think campbell should be in the top 10 ahead of scott and cooper. usually there's a significant gap somewhere in nky's top 10. this year the top 2 are clearly highlands and covcath, everyone else is fairly even
1. highlands
2. covcath
3. ryle
4. conner
5. beechwood
6. holy cross
7. newcath
8. boone
9. campbell
10. lloyd/ cooper

campbell never gets love. they will sweep 6A in NKY

campbell always has great youth teams and awesome freshman teams. Lickert has changed things. now the kids want to commit to play football in high school. the camels could end up a nky powerhouse in a couple years.

^ Steve has brought a different culture to the entire program. But as much as I agree with you about the football program being a powerhouse in years to come, I say that all boys sports will. I'm a firm believer that football sets the tone for all sports. When football is successful, it rubs off on everything else.

That may be true at some schools, but I think it hurts Highlands a lot! The basketball team has really suffered, baseball was nothing until this year, the track program
is almost extinct, have not heard much about golf or tennis and the soccer program is average with a couple of good years.

actually, tristatefootball.com does cover Owen County and the rest of their district, but mustangsally is right Rebel, the ranking is for the teams in NKY, Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties.

From what I've see so far in 7 on 7, I'll be the first to say Simon Kenton should be in the top 10 somewhere. I know 7 on 7 only goes so far, they just look a lot more confident on offense and I really think the O-Line will perform well. Glad to see opening week is less than a month away!

6A in NKY will be as close as ever. Have to give a preseason edge to Campbell Co. but I wouldn't be surprised with anybody winning.
