If UK cuts ties with the coal industry, then it will be cutting its ties with me as well. The coal industry is full of UK alumni and I doubt that there are enough liberals in Lexington to convince UK to bite the hands that feed its athletic department, as well as the College of Engineering, and other colleges on campus. People who don't like the coal industry should move to a state that liberals have already destroyed.

UK has Calipari...they're the defending national champs...they won't be missing the support of 100 liberals who probably don't have real jobs that provide them enough money to help fund the UK athletic program any great deal.

An environmental group is planning a rally on Wednesday to ask UK Athletics to cut its ties to the coal industry, but some say the group is being unfair.
Beyond Coal is part of a larger national movement started by the Sierra Club to move the country away from fossil fuels and towards cleaner sources of energy.
The local group has been mostly focused on asking UK to stop using its coal-fired power plant on campus.
But now, they are asking the school's athletic department to reject sponsorships from coal companies.
Those in the industry say those ad dollars are an invaluable revenue stream for the university.
"If it's not going to be funded through corporate attempts, corporate sponsorships -- as pretty much every competitor of UK does -- that's going to come off the backs of student tuition or our tax dollars," said Kentucky Coal Association President Bill Bissett.
Bissett says Kentucky needs coal because the state can not adequately power itself using windmills or solar panels alone.

Bissett pointed out that the national Beyond Coal movement is mostly funded by a $50 million donation from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
"When I think about powering Kentucky, I'm not interested in what the mayor of New York City has to say," Bissett said.
Found this quite interesting.

IF the Athletic Department cuts ties with coal i would be very surprised. I would tell this group to shove it up there ass and have them arrested for trespassing.

Yet you support Obama, who is doing everything he can to strangle the coal industry. What difference does it make whether UK stops taking coal company donations or if coal companies go belly up and the funding source disappears? It sounds like liberal logic at work to me.

I LOVE Bill Bissett! This guys knows his stuff, folks.

Do you have to support everything someone does? Do you support romney having money over seas? Or sending jobs over seas? Or paying a low tax %? Do you support his flip flop on gay marriage? His refusal to talk about abortion?

Wildcatk23 Wrote:Do you have to support everything someone does? Do you support romney having money over seas? Or sending jobs over seas? Or paying a low tax %? Do you support his flip flop on gay marriage? His refusal to talk about abortion? No, there is virtually nothing that Obama does that I support. Obama has sent more jobs overseas than Romney has and the numbers are not even close. Romney left behind a long list of successes when he left Bane.
The Romneys have donated more to charity than the Obamas have earned in their entire lives and he has paid more taxes in the past two years than the Obamas have paid during their entire careers. I oppose gay marriage, so yes, I do support Romney changing his position.
Romney has made his position on abortion clear but it is not the main issue in this election.
The main issue in this campaign is the loss of jobs that has taken place during Obama's term and Obama and his supporters, you included, are trying to do everything to avoid debating that topic. More people have joined the ranks of the disabled than the employed and a record number of people are now collecting food stamps.
Any more questions?
Now, back to the thread topic. If you oppose UK cutting off donations from coal companies, then you should be supporting policies that will allow the coal industry to thrive. If you vote for Obama, then you will be voting against the coal industry and hampering its ability to support UK and many other charitable causes in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. So, your tough talk toward a few liberal protesters demanding that UK's Athletic Department stop accepting coal company donations is just empty rhetoric.

It would honestly be hard to considering the coal business is my way of life.
While it has nothing to do with the team or players, UK is becoming more liberal every day.

I was serious a couple of weeks ago when i said in Harlan County alone, one company, who is comprived of about 4 different companies owner said if obama is reelected he will shut the doors on all of them because no money can be made under Obamas regulations.
If stuff dont change in November, be ready to see a lot more killings and stealing with all of the unemployed people in EKY. People will go to extremes when they have no money to eat on.

The "demonstrators" have no credibility unless they will replace the funds that would be lost by cutting off the coal industry. Most likely many, if not most, who will "demonstrate" live off the rest of us already. So they obviously won't be in a position to pay the tab.
UK and the Commonwealth need the coal industry. We don't need freeloaders.

probably not a good idea, the basketball program always needs money and even if coal is a disagreeable position for me they are still our biggest supporters and we need their financial backing at UK. if calipari gets caught cheating. We will need them even more

Yeah, the new Coal Lodge. Sounds like UK will not miss that money.

You're right HG. There's no way this will have an impact of any kind on UK using coal. They do this all the time on campus, not sure why it is making the media rounds this time.

NYC buys some of it's electricity from the Big Sandy Plant. Therefore space ranger Bloomberg thinks he has enough clout to move and shake things in Kentucky.

No sonny, it's called having a mind of your own and not having a mass of jello floating around and knowing not to fall for every sick, distorted, and vile acts of the liberal left. It's called being old enough to know the difference between right and wrong and to exercise the personal responsibility that goes with it.
I personaly consider a patriot as one who is making it their sole agenda to get this laughing stock baffoon out of office. Those are the true Patriots bubby. They are the ones fighting to preserve our American way of life.Respect has to be earned, and there is not one single thing that I respect out of this wanna bee socialist dictator. I can never remember a president being as hated by the masses as much as what this clown has been.
