Some noteworthy performances and accomplishments from the college football weekend.
1: Tackle by Southern Utah DL Nick Nissen, but it was to stop Portland State QB Kieran McDonough at the 1-yard line on a sneak as time expired to preserve the Thunderbirds' 49-42 win in their first-ever Big Sky game.
3: Teams from leagues outside those with automatic BCS berths that are undefeated: Louisiana Tech and Texas-San Antonio of the WAC, and Ohio of the MAC. UTSA is in its transition season from FCS and is not automatically bowl eligible.
3: Times Division III Widener (Pa.) has already cracked 60 points this season, topped by a 90-0 win Saturday against Wilkes (Pa.). According to d3football.com, that's the most in a D-III game since Rockford (Ill.) set the division record with 105 points in 2003. Widener led D-III last season, averaging slightly more than 47 points.
4: Wins by Ball State against teams from leagues with automatic BCS bids after holding off South Florida of the Big East 31-27. The other three wins have come against Indiana of the Big Ten, including last week.
7: Touchdowns by Nevada RB Stefphon Jefferson, tying an FBS record for TDs against a major college team, in a 69-34 win at Hawaii. None of Jefferson's six scoring runs was longer than 5 yards, but he did score on a 55-yard reception. Hawaii allowed its most points in a home game since a 74-20 loss to Stanford in 1950.
9: Consecutive games with at least 500 yards of offense by Baylor, which has won each of those games dating to last season. The Bears had 549 Friday in a 47-42 win at Louisiana-Monroe. QB Nick Florence (351 passing, 55 rushing) had a hand in 406 of those yards.
9: Points in the final 52.3 seconds for Division II California (Pa.) in a 26-24 win against Indiana (Pa.). The sixth-ranked Vulcans got the ball on their 20 after No. 14 Indiana missed a field goal leading 24-17. On the next play, Peter Lalich connected with Nadir Brown for an 80-yard touchdown pass. California missed the extra point but recovered the onside kick and drove 31 yards in six plays to set up the game-winning 33-yard field goal by Cody Nuzzo with 3.5 seconds left.
13: Consecutive losses by Georgetown to Ivy League teams until beating Princeton 21-20 on Matt MacZura's 33-yard field goal with 14 seconds left.
21: Catches for FCS Eastern Illinois' Erik Lora, an Ohio Valley Conference record, in a 50-49 OT win against Murray State. Those catches were good for
269 yards and 3 TDs. Lora also made the pass, to Von Wise, for the winning two-point conversion in OT.
22: Total tackles by Division III Minnesota-Morris sophomore LB Cody Hickman in a 49-24 loss to Greenville (Ill.). He had 26 total tackles in the season's first three games.
24: Consecutive losses away from home for New Mexico, the longest active road skid in FBS, before a 27-14 win at rival New Mexico State.
26: Years since Northern Arizona had won at Montana before a 41-31 win in Missoula. The Lumberjacks had lost 14 in a row overall to their Big Sky foe but got 253 yards and three TDs rushing from Zach Bauman.
36: Years since Ohio started a season 4-0. The Bobcats got there this year with a 44-10 win against Norfolk State of the FCS.
99: Games since Ole Miss posted a shutout away from home before a 39-0 win at Tulane. The string dated to a 31-0 win at Mississippi State in the 2003 Egg Bowl. The shutout came a week after the Rebels gave up 66 to Texas.
257: Career coaching wins for Kevin Donley of St. Francis (Ind.), an NAIA record, after a 76-14 homecoming victory against Concordia (Mich). That broke a three-way tie at 256 with former Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) coach Frosty Westering and Hank Biesiot of Dickinson (N.D.) State. Biesot's Blue Hawks lost Saturday 45-7 at Southern Oregon. Donley is 257-117-7 overall with 143 of the wins coming at St. Francis.
303: Receiving yards by Arkansas' Cobi Hamilton, an SEC record, in a 35-26 loss to Rutgers. He had 10 catches, three for touchdowns.
654: Carries by Wisconsin's Montee Ball in his career before he lost a fumble,
on the opening drive of a 37-26 win against Texas-El Paso. Ball later left the game with a head injury after getting the Badgers' first TD.
1,549: Combined yards by Old Dominion (824) and New Hampshire (725) in the Monarchs' 64-61 victory, an FCS record. The old mark of 1,423 was set in 2010 by Murray State (816) and Missouri State (607). ODU QB Taylor Heinecke passed for 730 yards, a Division I record and third in all NCAA divisions. He also had 61 yards rushing to set the all-division mark for total offense.
