They definitely do...but with do respect to Ashland they have noone on their roster that compares to the athleticism and explosiveness of Henry Clay's Bell and Jackson.

Don't know much about those players so I cannot comment on them. I do know baker,Massey, salow,Elam, and younge are all great athletes that make great athletic plays. I expect a heavy dose of Massey in this game as I think he is the kid belfry won't be able to stop in space.

I know WideRight made a comment about what a loss would mean to Belfry for the playoffs, but I see it the other way. If Belfry does pull off the road win, Ashland is going to be HUGE underdogs come 4A playoffs.

I don't recall Massey doing anything last year. I understand it isn't the same team for either squad, but 3 of 4 LB'ers are back for Belfry and 3 of 4 in the secondary.
I think (hope) we will hold our own.

As long as Belfry has coach haywood they will hold their own

Massey is being used better this year gettin him more in space. And less juking just more running by people. Kid has improved a lot.

Should be a very fundamentally sound game, but I think depth prevails.

Define depth? Cause Ashland is very deep I certainly wouldn't think a smaller school like belfry would play more kids than Ashland? Ashland has a lot of kids that only play one way. And a lot of quality players coming off the bench to give the starters a breather

One thing that I dont think anyone has mentioned yet, this will be belfrys first game on grass this year.

I can't speak for Ashland, but Belfry only has a handful of players who play both ways:
Messer- TE/DE, probably the only player who plays nearly the entire game on both sides
Robinson- HB/S, will play nearly every defensive snap, but frequently subbed on Offense when Belfry moves Carr to HB and run Hatfield at FB.
Warren- QB/CB, will play every snap at QB naturally, subbed very frequently on Defense as the Pirates have about 4 or 5 CB's they rotate.
Belfry's entire OL and DL essentially play one way save a few guys who sub on opposite sides of the ball. Both of Belfry's Interior LB's (Ghormley and Mullins) play exclusively one way, Belfry's two primary ball carriers (Johnson and Carr) do not play defense.
Belfry is a smaller school but they are a distant and far cry from their old days of iron man football and are EXTREMELY deep for a 3A school.

That info came from Belfry parents. One kid got in the truck and drove off after the game. Yep that's real nice.
:eyeroll: 14 holdbacks? That's absurd!! There are 4 holdbacks on 8th grade team, with this being only time they have been held back. One of them is the kicker and is his first year of ever playing football. You are either a liar or the "Belfry parents" you got "info" from are stupid. Belfry Middle has broken no rules, so please don't make up crap because your team got it handed to them. If you saw one of them get into a truck and drive off, he absolutely is not a licensed driver. Which I highly doubt you saw.

I think PayToPlay's original post was just an all in fun poke at me about these two programs being a family rivaly for me. Because at that level it is what it is, a bunch of young kids gettijg a handle on what full contact football really is.

Well at least 3 Belfry parents are liars then. And 1 of them where proud of the fact their kid was held back again. When the question of eligibility in high school was asked a kid from Belfry said the one hold back had no intention of finishing high school. The kid did drive off license or not.

I agree 100% haha however I do see some real talent in my son's 4/5 year old Ashland JFL league already, im going to love watching these kids grow up together. They really get after it and with no pads too.

I was not offended by you what so ever. But when sore losers get on an post something so ridiculous as what the other poster from Ashland did, I simply had to call him out.

This is a much needed game for Belfry. They should be challenged on the road against a very good Ashland team. Win or los after this game Coach Haywood will know what his team must do to improve. Belfry could be at a disadvantage going in because there starters have only played a full game only once this year. Also how will this team handle late game situations if its a close game. Win or lose Belfry needs this game because the challenges for the Pirates are too few in theregular season.
09-30-2012, 09:56 AM
^ agreed! I believe this will be an uphill battle for the Pirates. Playing a Putnam, advantage Ashland..it has always been hard for the Pirates to pull into Putnam and get a win. I personally think at this point in the week that it will be another low scoring affair with a little more than slight advantage going to Ashland. It will definately be a test for the Pirates to go 4 quarters.

And we must remember that Henry Clay died many years ago (sorry boys but the temptation was too great).
On a serious note, Belfry cannot defeat Ashland at Ashland.

In this case yes I'm a sore looser. I had nothing but respect for Belfry and the tradition rich program they have. Until that game. Line up a true 8th grade team and win by 60 I'd say congratulations, good win. As i have others teams that beat us. But that wasn't the case. As I stated my information came from belfry parents. If that's the kind of tradition belfry has then I'm sorry I ever wasted my breath saying what a great program they have.

Well if the kid drove the "bus" down, then he should have to drive his teamates back home, right? This is funny,I say the parents telling you this, seen you coming from a mile away.

I'm sure you will get over the bad taste of a lose and Belfry will get over you not thinking of them as a great program. Sure, Belfry Middle has a few holdbacks, but 14 they do not. And again, one of them has never played football in his life. Just for argument sake, Has Ashland Middle school ever in history not had a child be held back and play another year of football or any sport at all? Did that leave you thinking is wasn't fair for the teams they played? I'm sure it did. :eyeroll: It's always the same with SOME FANS with EVERY school. "they cheated or the refs gave it to them or it was home cookin".
Again, I'm sure we will get over you not thinking highly of Belfry, but cheat they did not.

At Ashland if a child fails, is held back or repeats the 7th or 8th grade for any reason then they are not allowed to participate in any sport.
