I was just wondering, and I'm not being judgmental or even trying to get in the politics involved, but is your life better with Obama as president? I don't even care what the policies are or what he has promised, but at this moment is your life better because he is your president?

^ The answer you will get is that it was Bush's fault.

NO
My health insurance premiums went up $2,500 a year.
Food up 30%
Utilities skyrocketed
National debt exploded by 6 trillion
An unenviable, yet stable middle east was ill advisedly agitated into a state of rabid frenzy (by our own State Dept at least to some degree, abandoning the long held view of 'maintaining stability inthe region'), when the so-called spring came to the arab world, and then turned to hell on earth.
17-18 thousand illegals still cross the Mexican border EVERY day http://www.usborderpatrol.com/borderframe900.htm
Gas is at $3.75 a gallon and Obama vetos the Canadian pipeline (for environmental concerns?)

Definitely hasn't made it better for me. But, I don't really think that's the President's job either.

it's not his job, that's up to the individual. however, the decisions he makes and the bills he passes do affect how you go about improving your life.

Of course...I think the real negatives will start during the President's second term though, like Obamacare. I hope it doesn't happen, but I just don't see us pulling it out.

CTD, I like ya man but you're not going to get a response on this one. This is the question a lot of Obama's supporters duck and dodge. I have asked this probably 20 times over the past few months in various threads and have gotten various replies dodging the points.

the thing is, i wasnt' asking for debate purposes.. I was really curious.. cause based on my own life.. I have lost my job twice, I have lost a home and a jet ski. Did I overspend? Sure.. at times. but i made enough money to juggle all my junk.. And I was just wondering if some people's lives truly improved when he took office

I can't think of anyone who's lives have gotten better, and I'm trying. I'd say foreigners have gotten more positives out of President Obama, specifically in Afghanistan where we have a hand tied behind our backs.

Right on bro. I understand what you are saying. It's just what when you bring it up to the supporters on here, it will be dodged.

Considering the Coal industry is 90% of my job, i think the answer is pretty clear.
It seems everything is worse, and im not just saying that from a Republican perspective.

My job depends 100% on the coal industry and we have lost over 50% of our business. Obama has unleashed MSHA on the Industry and what he is doing is easy to see. He is monopolizing the coal industry. Only the largest coal companies will survive when he is done and you can guarantee that when it's all said and done the union along with the federal government will play a major role in the industry. Hey,they can't totally get rid of the industry all together. There's just too big a need for coal. Gas don't supply the BTU's needed to be sufficient for our energy needs in this country and wind and solar are to far away to be sufficient at this time. Obama and friends don't really care about clean energy, they only use it as an excuse to put more regulation in so as to monopolize the industry. All the while putting more people out of work and more people on the government tit. That way big government gets bigger. Things will get worse way before they get better. Unless Romney is vote in. Then the coal industry will boom once again and people in this area will have thier lives back. Gov. Romney is our only hope!!!

Point of clarification, Congress passes the laws and the President is to carry out the laws.
If I was to "blame" anyone it would be the house and senate...
Now to the point of the thread. I make more money, I have to work hard for it, many nights of staying up late... I have a child on the way, very excited about that. I have been elected as a deacon in my home church, and my football team is doing very well this year.
Yeah life is not that bad. Also, a point to consider in all of this though... I work both for the private sector as well as the public sector.

^congrats lol..
Do you feel as though your job is secure?
I know some people are probably doing better, but i just haven't really met many of them. Or heard anyone say that they aren't worried about what's going on in the country. Especially when it comes to the economy.
I too worked for the coal industry. For 12 years. And my dad has worked in the coal industry for about 30. It has been an up and down industry for a long time. But the difference between then and now is, you could almost always find someone hiring if you did have a shutdown.
And since i'm a diabetic i relied heavily on the insurance that I had while working. Now i'm without a job and I got really lucky when my wife found a job that offered ins benefits. However I don't know yet how much the ins. will cost her or what the coverage is yet. I find out today.

Well, I was laid off and just found a job.
They neither one had anything to do with that I don't think unless you want to blame him for the lay off lol..
I couldn't be happier that I found a better paying job but, I will be voting for Romney this year. I just don't think Obama is the right fit for America.
When he went up for election in 08' he knew what to say really.. Not to mention he is black so people wanted to be a little "rebellious" and try something new..
The cheese eaters love Obama.

Things have been going much better for me the past four years too. Is that because of Obama though? Obama didn't get me my job or the high honors I earned through school. Did he somehow get you elected as a deacon at your church? Did he magically wave his wand and make your football team good? Were you able to find a new job to make more money? The only way I could see Obama helping you make more money on your job is if you're working one of the union jobs where you sit on your arse.
Actually, he probably did help you become a deacon and with your football team. Now I see what he has been doing instead of working on fixing this mess we're in.

No, and no, however, the question was am I better off than I was 4 yrs ago... I answered.
I will say that my student loans have been better under Obama than Bush, and I do have both federal loans as well as private loans.
I have noticed that there has been a decline in America since 2001. Is that all Obama's fault... Bush's fault... Clinton's fault... if people were honest they would say it was a mixture.
I give President Obama a break for the last two years, his first two years no, but the last two yes. When Mitch Mcconnell says that the number one goal is to get Obama out three years ago, what does that say about our politics. To me it suggest that people on both sides of the aisle put politics over people... sad.
Republicans have cried about the deficit for 4 yrs now, where were they during Bush's eight yrs? Republicans cry the government is too big, how about the military spending? Republicans cry about legislation being to restrictive on banks, how about too big to fail? Republicans cry about wanting a free enterprise, which party gave the banks the first bail out?
As far as Unions go... are you saying that I should not want a better life, better work conditions, and more pay? I should not want these things is that correct? I mean it is ok for businesses to have these things but not a common worker, I disagree with that thought completely.
Sorry I feel better now; have a good night.

I could make the case that I'm actually worse off than I was 4 years ago. Gas prices are killing me...I know we had times of high gas prices under Bush, but it is freakin' October! Those high prices wore off by September...it's just ridiculous. Not to mention the price of everything else has jumped.
I don't blame all of it on the President, but I do blame the Administration as a whole.

1) After 6 years of war, an unprecidented terrorist attack, an expansion of the Dept of Ed, a massive expansion of military spending, and an unfunded astronomical new entitlement..... in 2007, the deficit was around 150 billion. And the unemployment rate was in the 4% range.
2)How about military spending? Its not the military that regulates the amount of water in your toilet. Its not the military that sniffs your exhaust for pollution. Its not the military that is mandating you buy healthcare. This is the example of BIG government. Military spending to keep you free to say the things you do, is the measure of might.
3)How about too big to fail? It was Dodd-Frank (not exactly republican guys FYI) that designated the 5 largest banks as 'too big to fail'. Not republicans.
4)And which party did give the banks the first bail outs? the S&L crisis was during a period of democratic leadership in the house and senate (they wrote the bills). TARP was passed in the Senate with 41 Democrats and 33 Republicans voting for it. In the house, led by democrats who voted 172-63 and republicans rejected it 108-91. So Democrats are 'who gave them the bailouts'.
