Quick vs. Timmons: 2012 Mr. Football
#1
Before the season, we had a list of 10 guys in contention for Mr. Football. Of all the names listed, 2 names kept popping up, James Quick and Ryan Timmons. Some guys faded away with injuries, some by their teammates, and some had great seasons, but not enough to join Quick & Timmons.

Trinity's James Quick was the favorite going into the season. Regarded as the state's and one of the nation's top college prospect, Quick has helped Trinity win 3 straight state championships. This season, Quick has 78 catches for 1,223 yards and 12 TDs. He just broke Montrell Jones record for career receptions and has over 4,000 career reception yards.

Franklin County's Ryan Timmons was a rising star going into the season and has proven he belongs among the state's elite. Timmons help lead Franklin County to an undefeated regular season in 2011. This year, the Flyers are undefeated thanks to Timmons contributions, including a game winning kick return for a TD against Anderson County. Timmons has 24 receptions for 827 yards, 50 carries for 1004 yards, and 38 total TDs.

Did Timmons do enough to take Mr. Football? Will Quick lose votes to teammate Dayln Dawkins?

Give it to Timmons or anyone besides a Trinity player.

Timmons should be Mr. Kentucky football. He is a great athlete and a great team mate. He has no ego at all, but seems to go out on the field and do his thing week after week. I know Mr. Quick is great player too, but as Coach Peach said is interview after the game, I cannot imagine that Quick could be any better than Ryan Timmons. This was the best compliment that I have ever herd Coach Peach give about any player who was not on his team.

Timmons and Quick are both deserving. Timmons real probably win because Trinity is perceived as arrogant to the voters outside of Jefferson County.
#5
It's obvious that both Quick and Timmons are deserving of Mr. Football, but if you look at what Timmons has done for Franklin County, who 3 years ago was 1-9, compared to what Quick did for powerhouse Trinity, I think Timmons has been more impressive as a whole this year than Quick has.

You're right. Timmons does more for his team than James Quick does for his. I'd give the edge to Timmons if it were my vote.

Timmons! I hope HC get's to play them. I would like a bears eye view!!
#8
Being Quick just set the all time KHSAA record for "Career" receptions against National level talent, how could you not give it to him?
#9
James Quick is the best player in the state of Kentucky. I don't care where he played and I'm not a Trinity fan.

^ Purple raises a great point!
#12
What do you think is the most important when choosing a Mr. Football? Best stats, most college potential or who does the most for their team?
#13
Quick, according to toussaints, has 12 TDs on 78 receptions, with 1,223 yards (15.6 yds/catch).
Timmons, according to KHSAA's website, has 16 TDs on 24 receptions, with 827 yards (34.4 tds/catch)
Timmons also has 21 TDs on 50 rushes, with 1,004 yards (20.0 yards/carry).
Timmons also has 3 TDs on kickoff returns.

Quick has 12 TDs on 78 touches (1 TD every 6 touches).
Timmons has 40 TDs on 77 touches (you do the math)

What kind of numbers would Quick have had against Franklin County's opponents?
What kind of numbers would Timmons have had against Trinity's opponents?
#14
p.s. How many games would Trinity have won without Quick?
How many games would Franklin County have won without Timmons?
#15
are there guidelines for the voters to follow when voting for Mr. Football. Who does vote for Mr football.
#16
Mr. Football is voted by the Associated Press writers in Kentucky
#17
Toussaints, when is the vote taken?
#18
Timmons numbers are out of this world. Those sound like video game numbers.

Purple you've been bashing Franklin County and Ryan Timmons every chance you get. You come off a bit afraid. Are you concerned thagt if Timmons is as good as advertised Bowling Green may have a big problem on their hands? What if Timmons played for Trinity? People would be saying. "Quick who?"
#21
No disrespect to Timmons. He is a great player. I do not want to sound like a homer, but you are kidding yourself if you think anyone other than James Quick wins the Mr Football...the engraving is already on the trophy.

HA. You gave up 55 to Wofford County. Timmons & Company could score 50 points (they won't.. not even close actually) and Bowling Green will still win by 4 TDs because they can't stop a nose bleed.

First, I'm not a Franklin County fan. Check my post, I'm a Frankfort fan. Next I don't care how many points Franklin Co. gives up Ryan Timmons doesn't play defense! More importantly if Ryan played for Trinity they would still be undefeated.

When Timmons and Franklin County play a team that has a little defense, those numbers won't be so high. If they played a schedule like Bowling Green has, they wouldn't be undefeated. I am pulling for Franklin County to make it to the finals. If the Purples don't make it, then Warren Central or John Hardin will crush them in the finals. They have NO defense. They have given up over 300 points this year. You're not gonna win the 5a title with offense alone, but we will see. Anderson County might beat them anyway.

This is a Mr. Football thread who cares about FCHS defense it does suck, gettting better at times, but true we havent stopped anyone. Ryan plays defense sparingly and when he does me intercepts the ball, more times than not.

TIMMONS for MR. FOOTBALL:flame:

When FC was down by two earlier this season to Anderson County (I know, they are not as good as some other teams, say, for example, Cincinnati Moeller) with 14 seconds left, Timmons took the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown to win the game. He has done everything possible to help his team win on offense. The few times he has played on defense, he is a lock down defensive back. Again, this post is about Quick versus Timmons, not Trinity versus FC (Thank the Lord). I haven't seen Quick; I have seen Timmons three times this season and several times the last few years. I have not seen a better RB/ WR/ return man in high school in my 57 years. He is averaging one TD for every two touches!! If he had gotten as many touches as most other kids, he would have set a scoring record. Maybe Quick could better that; I don't know. I haven't seen him.
Btw, I am a Frankfort fan, not a Franklin County fan.

Not only did he take that kick to the house, Anderson County kicked it away from him.

Quick did have a pretty sweet 70+ td against Lou. St. Xavier
