Danville 16 Prestonsburg 14
#1
Final.

The game winner was a Danville interception in their end zone followed by a long TD drive.
#2
Prestonsburg had several chances to win this one.. Just couldn't make enough plays. Good game by both teams. This one stings.
#3
See you Friday Ads!!! Glad Jumpers don't have to make that Looooooong drive to P'burg!
#4
Turnovers killed the Blackcats. Good game by both teams. Probably one of the all time most classless acts were the Danville fans who gathered up and chanted outside the P-burg locker room after the game. Just a piece of advice for any of those fans who might read this. You don't do crap like that in Eastern Kentucky if you value you life. Hope they made it home safe.

Looking forward to seeing another Danville-Somerset match-up

Sometimes a team outplays the opposition (and the Blackcats looked the better team out there) but...it just wasn't meant to be.

The two biggest plays of the game were the illegal procedure penalty on P-burg on 1st and goal, and the long screen/run by Anderson, fumbled, then the 60 some yard runback which set up Danville's final TD on the next play. You have to especially feel badly for Anderson as he was working to break a tackle at the end of a great run when losing the handle (BUT those things happen...just the nature of the game).

Tell you what, though... this was the best performance by the defense all year. Danville had the one long drive running the ball, but other than that, the defense played well.

This team could be a REAL force over the next couple of years as the lines strengthen and mature. To my eyes, this team has come light-years since the season's start !!

Blackcats needed this game and performance to build off of with their very young team.

I wholeheartedly agree. Even with the bad plays, they played a pretty good game.

lol...I almost wrote that exact same thing. If there was ever a "good" loss, this was it. Ridiculously young team...20 pt underdogs...and actually out-played the opponent !!

It's great motivation for the players (and fans, too!) to see how surprisingly close they are to the next level...

Well, unless my daughter plays football...this was my last game as a Blackcat football parent...

First off: great effort by both teams. The game had some sloppy moments, and momentum swings were huge and frequent. But this was a great game to watch.

Coming into this game, I was most concerned with Danville's speed and quickness. Given how our defense had looked most of the year, I feared it would be a recipe for disaster. However, over the last 3-4 weeks, the Blackcat defense has really improved. REALLY, REALLY improved. This may be one of the better coaching jobs that this staff has done. Early in the year, when teams were gashing us, it was easy to question what the heck was going on: kids seemed to be out of position every play, tackling was atrocious, and defense in general seemed like an afterthought. But slowly, surely, every week the play improved. Looking back now, it should have been expected, given how many young players we were playing and given the fact that even our older players were adjusting to new positions. But this staff and this team quietly, methodically, and professionally went about their business, improving every week, not letting some early embarassing defensive performances stop their plan. If you had told me after the Belfry game that we would hold Danville and all their speed to 16 points, I would have laughed at you. But that is just what we did.

Prestonsburg had lots of opportunities to win the game, but just couldn't capitalize on them. That's football, especially when you advance in the playoffs.

Mega kudos to this senior class. After all the graduation losses from last season, people didn't expect much from this bunch. However, this senior class just went to work...improving daily, and determined not to suffer back to back losing seasons. Let me say this to the MEN of the senior class: Job well done. You are to admired, emulated, and respected for this season.

Football is the greatest game in the world. It teaches you so much about life, the importance of team and family, and the fact that there is no substitute for hard work. One of the harder lessons that you learn from this is that sometimes, no matter how hard you work or try, you can still lose the game. This is life, and precious few other sports imitate life so perfectly.

Congrats Senior Class. You are an inspiration, and will be missed. Young guys: take some time to hurt, mourn, and get over this loss. Next season begins tomorrow.

It could be they just needed to raise their voices while working out the stiffness after being so quietly still all game.

But... definitely not the same classy Ad crowd of days past. :Shaking:

I really didn't expect the Ads to have such classless fans, not all fans were bad but it's always a select few that ruin everything. Now on to the game, the Cats played a helluva game on D. Jarrell didn't look as sharp as usual, but he did show his moxie and ability to make something out of nothing. I think Coach DeRossett should've abandoned the run game and spread out the field on that last possession. I'm still curious as to why Coach John punted the ball to a run heavy offense. This is one of those "shoulda coulda woulda" games that will haunt these seniors for quite some time. Best of luck to the seniors in all they accomplish in life!

congrats Danville

I listened to this game on the radio. I have to ask how bad were the officals because it seemed everytime Danville got a first down they threw a flag. I believe Danville had like 18 flags thrown on them and Prestonsburg maybe 5. Second off what is so wrong with the fans chanting for their school after a win? Maybe if they were doing it in the face of Prestonsburgs fans and players then that would be classless. Third off it seems as if all of the Danville fans made it out a live so that may be a bold statement to threaten people's lives like that. With that being said P Burg should of won this football game. The better team lost tonight and well hopefully one day the Danville who played Boyle County will show up again. Maybe there were overlooking them and was looking ahead to Somerset guess we will see come friday. The winner of that game wins the state championship considering O Cath got upset tonight in double ot.

Great post. Congrats to P'burg on their effort at improving over the season. Also, congrats to Danville on the win.

I think that he said that the Danville fans were gathered up right outside the Prestonsburg locker room chanting...sounds like they were pretty much in the fans and players faces.

Also I think Newport Catholic is going to have a big say in who makes it to Bowling Green and Murray is no fluke and will be a big test for whoever gets there.
#18
I mean if that's the case then that's a total disgrace. But also with tough losses like this anything a fan sees they can take out of context also. P Burg lost a heartbreaker and you know that when that happens anything a winning team and their fans do could be taken out of context. Are both locker rooms close to each other because if so they could of been chanting for Danville considering they are right there.
#19
Danville had fans at the game!? That in itself is shocking to me.
#20
That is a shocker isn't RoShambo. The Danville fans only show up when their teams are winning state championships so it's been a while.
#21
Somerset dont have many fans at there games either.
#22
I have to say that I am highly impressed with the way Prestonsburg played! They actually appeared to be the better team for the most part! Also gotta give credit to Danville for grinding it out and making key plays.

Congrats to the Blackcats on a great season!!

Congrats to the Ads on the win!

One thing about it Danville will get it handed to them Friday
#26
At least Danville is playing friday! Prestonburgh want beat Danville over the next three years. There main players are sophomores and juniors!
#27
My take on the game is that Danville is and was a very beatable team, they do have a very good kicker, I also did not see the team speed that was talked about on Danville's side, #8 for P-burg was definitely the fastest young man out there. After the game, the players for Dville were classy in shacking hands with the heartbroken P-burg seniors, but the fans that hung around the lockeroom were classless. All in all great game to watch, very proud of the young blackcats!

I don't know the layout there, are the locker rooms beside each other?

In other words, are the Danville fans waiting for "their own" and it just so happens they have to wait beside P'burg fans and locker room?

Very nice post! And SPECIAL THANKS for being a Blackcat football parent! I know that being any football parent requires lots of sacrifices and dedication over a period of years to support the players. Thanks for making those sacrifices and God Bless You and your whole family! We, the fans have enjoyed your son's participation and wish him CONTINUED SUCCESS.
