Phil thought it was his job. He seems to be very surprised. Kobe stated he heard it through a text from a reporter.

He is a good coach...
but I don't think that his style fits - UNLESS he changes it up.
In Phoenix they used to try to get shots up in less than 10 seconds - that won't work with this aging roster. His teams have always been lackluster on the defensive side. He has a losing record in the playoffs. He has never been to the finals. I just don't see how you have two other coaches with finals experience and one of them maybe being the greatest of all-time and at least the greatest of this generation and you give it to the guy that just recently lost his job because of under-performing with a big payroll, a lot of talent and big expectations in a big market.

In his entire coaching career, his defenses have never been less than the 23rd worst in the league. The Knicks players said he would go as much as three weeks without discussing Defense. So, they will score and they will win regular season games. But without defense, they do not make it to the NBA finals.
As for fit, his style certainly fits for Steve Nash and D-Howard. They will be ideal for his pick and roll offense. But what about Kobe and Pau? This certainly spells the end of Pau. World Peace will be the first to go banana's and voice his displeasure.

Not a good hire at all IMO

Not a lot of people like this change. I'm not sure I have heard any media person state this is a fit. It's not the media or the fans who have to agree with it, but this certainly is a head scratcher when Phil said he would come back.

WOW I'm surprised at this. I thought it was Jackson's for sure

I like the pick.
I love seeing the Lakers suck.

How do you pick D'Antoni over Phil Jackson?

^ Buss's not wanting to hand over power to PJ.

Jackson was asking for some pretty big stuff...
10 million a year for 2 years, a stake in the company, some road games off and some control over personnel issues.

As a Kings fan, I love this hire.

Ugh....
Trying to stay optimistic.

If this is true, i would have turned him away also.
Even if it meant a championship, which wasnt guaranteed simply by hiring the great zen master, that was just to much.
I would have made him walk as well.

It was on ESPN last night that those requests were never mentioned...
so I have no idea where that information would have came from - his agent addressed it in a statement.
However, Phil was told that he had until Monday to give them an answer and he was woken up at 12:01 on Monday morning by a phone call from Mitch telling him that D'antoni had accepted an offer for the job.

Since the Kings lost to the Lakers with some random guy from Harlan as head coach....
I would assume for the sake of Kings fans it wouldn't matter who was on the bench.

I believe the terrible Kings have been to the WCF more recently than the Jazz have

I'll let that one slide.
It's been so long since the Kings have went that deep into the tourney that anyone would forget who has went to the finals since.

I forgot about 2007 because the Spurs almost swept them out. The Lakers-Kings series went 7 games and documented proof shows that the referees did everything they could to mess-over the Kings, and it STILL went 7 games, lol.

Shut up.
I wasn't talking about that.
My statement was in regards to LWC making excuses and bringing up irrelevant information after he was informed that he was wrong about the Kings/Jazz stuff.

^That is a pretty important factor.
It is a shame that the Jazz chose to self-implode and destroy their team and basically run off one of the best coaches in the last 20 years.

Zags, you are too much fun. If this was in the high school threads, the other person arguing with me would have started cussin' by now.

It's amazing what kind of debates and arguments you can have with people that actually have a brain
