I think Milan is AAA. I called this all the way back at that scrimmage by the way. I even had a little wager on that. Now back on subject, I understand some feelings are hurt. Fairview had a great team or they would not have made it that far. The thing is, the coaching staff apparently did not think anyone would ever figure out how to stop their running game for more than 1 or 2 drives. They also never thought about what adjustments they would have to make if they planned on rushing one more defensive player than the offense could pick up and it didn't work. That is the two flaws that cost them. In todays football you gotta have a back up plan to a back up plan to a back up plan. Back in the 90's and back you could basically just tell someone, we are gonna run right at you, try and stop it and if you were a good running team that would work. Today that doesn't work. If you will look, even the linemen are not big slow guys any longer. Now they have got to be athletic, then it helps if they have size. Lastly this scheduling thing that everyone has been trying to say is over rated. That is how you get a chance to see how your team will do when certain things are taken away from them and how they will adjust. If you already know this before you get to the big dance, then you know a lot more than the other team.

From what I could tell about this game speed and stuff like that had nothing to do with it. The Mayfield O and D lines were head and sholders better then the Fairview lines and if you have a good line it makes every player on the team better. The Mayfield lines blew Fairview back on just about every play. I will have my plate of crow now.nicker:
You must know very little about football, speed and stuff like that had plenty to do with it. Blowing Fairview off both sides of the ball had something to do with it also. A running clock with 4 minutes to go in the 4th qter of a State Championship game tells me all facets of the game were used to get to this point. Pikeville, Raceland, Hazard, Frankfort and Williamsburg would have been in the next group. I'm ready for next year already. A lot of good teams strive for one trophy.
Pikeville, with the experience this group returns, is certain to be in the running in 2013.Return almost everyone on both sides of the ball.

Right. Heck, you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure that out. Larry Holmes could've figured that one out!

I think you are the one who knows very little about football because you go ask any coach in this world what is the most important part of a good well balanced team and they will tell you it's good line play on both sides. The lines are the thing that holds every team together on both sides of the ball and if you have a good talented line then it makes every part of your team look better and play better,QB,RB,RECEIVERS,LINEBACKERS,DEFENSIVE BACKS, and all. Things like speed can be countered with planning and x's and o's but if your being dominated at the line of scrimmage on every play then you have limited options of what you can do. Line play is just about the most underrated and over looked part of this game from people like you. We always give all the glory to the skill positions. I think you would be surprised at what I know about this GAME we call football. And like I said, congrats to Mayfield!

Ding bat, ding dong, ding a ling. We got the makings of a pretty good song here. Can anyone help us out with the rest of the words.
I think the thing Doublegg is not aware of is we still had the speed advantage. We had the two fastest kids on the field. Not only that we had speed at every position. The reason we were blowing them up at the line was because of speed, speed and more speed. We certainly did have size to match them. If you watch the film, you will see we are bursting past their linemen almost every time, because they cant get their hands on us. Now come on and sing along with me. Ding dong, Ding bat, Ding a ling, don't know a thing. Someone help me with the next line or 10.

Yeah just like last year when all of you were talking on the Mayfield-v-Hazard thread about how Hazard could not handle all this Mayfield speed.(LOL) I can pull up some of the posts from that thread if you would like but it would probably embarrass some of you.

If I do it I get a whippin........I do it!!!
o-bigred I agree. Iv been wanting to say that since the game ended.. Guy had a real bad night, prob one of his worst of the year , might of had to do with the pressure from playing a better school and him being a softmore, i mean his brother did the same thing at state in 09' against LCA , he just fell apart. I was really suprised when coach Jo pulled him in the fourth QT. so he could not throw the game away.. Good move tho putting Jackson in the wildcat to save the Game..
If this offence showes up and Hazzard plays as flawless as Beechwood did it could be close, the D will most likly struggle a little more with out the two starters (its so hard on MAyfield going into the playoffs with small lines and haveing to face these teams avging. 250+). Still going to Say this will be a fun game to watch but wont be close. The title was won last Fri.!!

I appreciar the nice things you say. When someone makes a blanket statement that Fairview ran at will then someone disagrees and points out that they did not. Tells you why they did not. You then question what game i am watching and says they did run at will and you must have missed the good things i said right along with the truth. Now where i come from that questioning my honesty i then pulled out facts to back up what i saw at the game. That Fairview had a great first quarter but if you eliminated a few early big plays that their run game became average. So instead of manning up and saying hey i didnt see it that way but i can see your point you just drop it and play martyr about all the good things you said.

“We haven’t turned it over like that all year, but that’s the way Mayfield hit us,” Fairview coach Nathan McPeek said. “That’s the best team we’ve faced in my seven years here.”
In the end, the miscues probably did little more than delay the inevitable, for it seemed the Eagles weren’t ever going to be able to keep Mayfield’s potent offense in check. Jonathan Jackson ran for 278 yards and three touchdowns, never touching the ball after the four-minute mark of the third quarter.

Sometimes we lose sight of what is really important. Granted everybody wants to win. I saw a very small player (4-2') on the fairview team in warmups and then later saw this young man enter the game on both offense and defense including getting to run the ball. Turns out he is a senior on the Fairview team named Joel Wardle. Great insperation, his family and fellow team mates did a interview I found and it is a great storyhttp://www.ihigh.com/kyprepspace/video_912934.html

I really thought this would be a close game. I was wrong. Fairview had no answer for Mayfields offense. No adjustments to the screens. No one to tackle Jackson. 3rd and 28 and Mayfield gets a first down because Fairview continues to play their loose man coverage D to the bitter end. Fairview did move the ball well but would shoot themselves in the foot with either turnovers, penalties or just some random play call. I really didn't think Turner touched the ball enough. These are all just my unbiased opinions. Mayfield is straight up solid. EKU pointed out that they could contend with 3A schools and that is a very true statement. They def have a good thing going on there. Congrats on your win. You were without a doubt the best team.

That was a great story idea. I wish all players around this area could see that and know how lucky they are to have what they have and work as hard on what they have as this kid has to get to where he is. His parents deserve a standing ovation as well. It sounds like they did everything they could think of to get their child healthy and able to do the things that most children take for granted. Too many times you see it the other way around. God bless them and I know their child will always remember what has been done for him and they will remember what he has done forever.

I will start this off by saying, I know what it is like to get beaten in the big one and even how it feels to get beaten in the big one in a big way. It really stinks. But I have seen the comment about the ball being moved on us at will and the only way it was stopped was by a big penalty or fumble. So, I went back and watched the film again. Somehow my camera man missed Fairview's 13th drive so I cant tell you how that one ended and it is possible that this was another one we stopped them cold on. What I did see is we stopped them cold on the second, fifth, seventh, tenth, eleventh and twelfth drives. That is unless you want to slice things so close that you say a 5 yard false start was enough to stop one of those drives and the interception in the end zone was enough to stop the other. The thing about the int though, was that it was a 4 and forever and it was a desperation throw. The hopes are the best thing that happens is a t.d., the next best is that we intercept and therefore get the ball at the 20 and the worst being we knock it down and get it where the play was run from. So I would not necessarily count that one as a mistake stopping the drive. By the way, we didn't get stopped 6 times all together. Now you could say what if you scored on all the other ones. The answer is, the score would have been more like 62-28. It may sound better but it is still a loss. Your boys have alot to be proud of, this should be viewed as a great season for them and a huge stepping stone for the future. The thing is, they don't need to make excuses just use this and get better. Some obvious things that I would say they need to use this game to improve upon are, the need to have a better passing game, the need to work on a defensive scheme to stop the run first but still be able to cover the spread. The last thing I will leave you to ponder is develope a much tougher schedule, against teams that resemble what you saw here.

I guess when it comes to Johnson Central, it can be said that Ashland never had, never will. And with that freshman bunch at Ashland coming up, it looks like it never will happen either. Just how does it feel to be a redheaded stepchild anyways?????
