Fiscal Cliff
MustangSally Wrote:Republicans should just let the Dems make their propossal and just vote present. If Democrats have the say, only taxes on people making above 250K will go up, and only on the amount over 250k for everybody.

This is a fight that Republicans cannot win. Obama clearly has no interest in seeing the country return to prosperity but he was reelected and has nearly unanimous support from the national media. The average American is too poorly educated and/or too apathetic to appreciate the desperate situation that the mushrooming national debt has placed this country. The economy is going to crash, regardless of what is done because four years of Obama and his reelection have us locked on a path of self-destruction. All that is left to be decided is the speed at which we descend down that path.

The best thing for for conservatives to do is to abstain from voting for any deal that would raise taxes, which would allow the RINOs like McCain, Graham, and the other media darlings to either follow suit or cast their lot with Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and the other socialists who are calling the shots and allow Obama to get everything that he wants.

Conservatives must not put themselves in position to be blamed for taking the country over the fiscal cliff, but they also must not agree to compromise their core values to seal a deal with the devil. The goal should be to make sure that Obama gets all of the credit for the crash that is coming, because the crash is coming regardless of what Republicans do.

The fact that Democrats refused to vote on Obama's proposal in the U.S. Senate should have triggered an angry reaction from the White House, and it would have - if Obama had any desire to do anything to help the economy. Obama ran for president to create economic chaos and grab as much power as possible for himself and his cronies, and he has succeeded beyond the wildest dreams of his socialist sponsors.

It is a shame that Mitch McConnell is not more articulate, because unlike Boehner, he understands exactly what Obama's game plan is. Unfortunately, Boehner has had the numbers to thwart Obama's game plan but he continues to act as if Obama has this nation's best interests at heart - and nothing could be further from the truth. Republicans will be lucky to hold onto their majority in the House if they elect Boehner as Speaker again. I predict that there will be a well-financed Tea Party primary challenger for Boehner in 2014. I am not sure that I have ever seen a worse negotiator in politics.

Go away, idiot. The thoughts of a man who believes that he needs multiple accounts to express his nitwittery, when a half-account would more than suffice do not matter. For folks like you, there are no teachable moments. Enjoy cashing those government checks while you can.

I agree with you, but it doesn't seem obvious to Boehner.

I have never liked Boehner, but his performance over the past couple of years is killing the Republican Party. It is hard for me to understand why neither major party seems to pick their best or brightest to leadership positions in Congress. McConnell is competent enough, but his performance in public forums has always been underwhelming to me. Boehner looks and mumbles like a guy who is perpetually hung over. Reid and Pelosi are even worse on the other side, but that does not make Boehner any more suitable to be Speaker.

Regardless of what happens, the Republicans will get the blame. Obama will be portrayed as a true patriot (similar to saying manure smells good). The media, as always, will cover Obama's butt. The majority of voters have no interest because it is about time for another episode of Ellen DeGeneres with the food stamps due in a day or two.

When the choice is between free candy and a chance to earn our own candy, the outcome should be obvious. Kennedy's famous line was inspiring. However, that was over 50 years ago. We are told that the populace has "evolved". If so, evolved to what?
McConnell is just as big a crook and as incompetent as the Democrat leaders...he even filibustered himself this week, lol!

Not true. What big scandal has McConnell been involved in that has been ignored by the media that is comparable to the smelly real estate deals that have involved both Reid and Pelosi? Has he ever urged people to vote for legislation without reading it, so that they can find out what is in it, the way Pelosi did with Obamacare? You may not like McConnell, but he has given the crooked Democrats an opportunity to vote on Obama's budgets and now his alleged plan to avoid the fiscal cliff and they have refused.

All Democrats need to do is propose bringing Obama's plan to the floor for a vote to prove McConnell wrong. Democrats do not want to go on record supporting actions that are going to put their even more of their own constituents out of work but they lack the integrity and courage to stand up to Obama.

McConnell has been absolutely right in his attempts to obstruct Obama's agenda, but he has been unsuccessful. Challenging Democrat Senators to go on the record supporting Obama's efforts to destroy our economy is about the only thing that Republicans can do in the Senate without controlling the majority of the seats. But somebody more articulate, such as Rubio, could at least use the position of Majority Leader to try to shape media and public opinion. That is McConnell's worst shortcoming, IMO.

Boehner acts like he believes this fight is managable by employing the methods used by republicans and democrats of the past. Dems were not actively trying to destroy their cohorts across the aisle in the past and we didn't have a socialist president bent on changing the entire socio-political landscape of America before his administration goes into the history books. And, although I agree with your post, I think that voter apathy is more than a lack of education. I truly believe the phenominum of Americans turning on their own country, which we are unfortunately seeing these days, is actually born of social revolution. The have nots have an opportunity to get even with the haves. And, the reason we see government officials the like of JoAnn Watson demanding that Obama bail out the city of Detroit.

Obama has succeeded in portraying all businessmen as ugly, glutonous, rich white, fat cats. Our own president is getting away with the worst form of bigotry, and white folks rising to defend him like he's some kind of savior. Most businessmen and women are in fact very gracious with their employees and do share the wealth in generous fashion. The mob of malcontents, professional zombie killers, lazy, and nonproductive slugs, which respresent the 'pets' of liberals in power, see an opportunity here to get even with folks who have money. Unwilling to work to get ahead, instead the government provided rationale for the lazy (unfortunate poor) is that they deserve what the rich fat cats have their vaults. Hence, the justification for "redistribution of wealth". This is nothing short of social revolution, guided by social justice advocates from within the hallowed halls.

The irony is that some of the ones that speak up most loudly in support of Obama's intentions to redistrbute the wealth of America, think their nest egg is safe from being touched. I don't think that is the case. Politicians have been eyeing pension funds and individual 401k's, as vast untapped renenue sources for some time now.

EXCERPT---
The government now wants your private 401(k) retirement plan. ”As Washington debates what to do about the fiscal cliff that it foolishly created, many potential sources of new revenue will be thrown on the table. One of them is likely to be 401(k) plans,” Investor’s Business Daily reported Thursday.
END---

Nobody's money will be safe if the "fundamental transformation" progesses much farther in my opinion. By 2014 the issue should finally start to become clear for rabid change supporters of the working class. Bringing the poor up to their level means they will have to go way down. A fact that even superficial thinkers should have been able to figure out last election.

Blah, blah, blah...do you never get tired of repeating the same Democratic talking points? In what way are Republicans "getting in peoples personal business" and destroying personal liberties? Because most of us oppose legalizing marriage between homosexuals? Does that really have any impact on what consenting adults are free to do in their own bedrooms? No, marriage generally does not occur in one's bedroom.

Does opposing the subsidization of contraception and abortion impact what consenting American adults are free to do in the privacy of their own bedrooms? No it does not, except that those who cannot afford a condom should probably be abstaining from sex - but that should be their decision.

What about the legalization of drugs? Wait, I think that Obama and the Democrats took no action to repeal federal prohibitions against recreational drug use when they controlled Congress. Jurisdiction over marijuana and other drugs could have been ceded to the states if Obama had given up a couple of days of golf and just asked Harry and Nancy to go along with him. It never happened, did it?

I have listed many of the items on the Obama agenda that really do threaten our personal liberty, and you have refused to respond. Why don't you get off your talking points and offer some specifics about how Republicans are depriving you and others of your personal liberty and comment on the many ways that the liberal agenda has deprived us of our freedom?

Is the loss of freedom only a problem when the one robbing you of your liberty has a (D) after his name? Because that sure is the impression that you give.

The truth is that Republicans have been champions of personal liberty compared to liberals like RV. He has no problem with cheering as the federal government exerts an increasing degree of control over our daily lives, as long as some rich white men and Republicans suffer more than he does - provided that Democrats are the ones robbing us of our freedom. Another non-response response. Go ahead and continue lying about Obama's agenda, RV. The problem is, as Hitler's supporters realized too late, when you throw your support behind a tyrant, it is only a matter of time before he strips you of freedoms that you hold dear.

Americans experienced a bigger loss of individual freedom with the passage of Obamacare than they have with any single piece of legislation ever passed by Congress. Never before has the federal government required people to purchase anything unconditionally.

Your opposition to right to work laws tell us all we need to know about what you really think of personal liberty.

People 'are' free to pursue and imitate the sexual habits of dogs and alley cats in this land. Getting state and federal legislatures and activist judges to legalize this kind of behavior, is another matter and the notion of which is just as absurd as people behaving like dogs in the first place. You really seem incapable of waging a logical debate. The election had nothing to do with personal liberty and everything to do with people voting for government handouts. Over a million Obamaphones have been issued in Ohio alone. The election is just proof that freedom does indeed have a price for people who have done nothing to earn it.

BTW, it looks like the people of Michigan have elected a government that will soon make it the latest one to pass right to work legislation. Maybe the nightmare that liberals imposed on the Wolverine State and saddled it with one of the highest unemployment rates in modern history will soon be over.

I will quit challenging you to provide specific examples of how Republicans have robbed us of our personal liberty and to defend the many examples that I have cited in which liberals have passed legislation that restricts personal liberty. You are obviously not up to the challenge. Maybe you just realize how dishonest and unsupportable your position is. To offer the result of a presidential election as proof that Republicans are opposed to personal liberty is a pretty bizarre claim, even for you.:biglmao:
