I hope this season is better than last season. If Rock can win one game this season, I hope it is the home opener. Even when Rock was good they struggled with 1st week games sometimes.

I would like to keep the never-lost-against-Madison-Southern streak alive.

If I am not mistaken, Knox Central loses Jeff Canady and Devon Evans, Clay County loses Jacob Hyde, and Russell County loses Britt, Williams (kicker), Whittle, and Mann (QB). That should help close the talent gap.
#3
^Rock lost 8 Seniors. The QB stays, Chance Ansardi stays, Jacob Bussell stays, Isaiah Adams stays, Tyler Harper stays, as well as the 3 leading tacklers.

Look, the talent at Rock last season was either very young or non-existent. A team stocked with talent doesn't win only two games. I hope the talent, speed and size of the Rockets improves. If not, it is another LONG season for a very passionate fan base.

Rock may start 2 or more freshman next year. If no one steps up, it could be just as ugly as last year

No comment here, but, you're absolutely right B.

If 2 freshmen have to start then that is bad, you can't tell me that surely rock don't have a jr who is better than a freshman. Wow the program has dropped since I remember.

I was afraid of this. With a junk season coming, it may be smart to grit our teeth and watch the varsity become a Freshman-JV mix so they can experience and be ready for next next year.

Why play mostly juniors and seniors to win one game or two when you can play Freshmen and Sophomores and win about as many?

Obviously play the upperclassmen that are good, but the ones rhat arent, why bother?
#8
Schedule doesn't have any easy games. I'm assuming SL has to be better. It could be a long year.
#9
We have started a few Freshmen 2010 season at Harlan Co. and we won the Region that year. You have to play the best players no matter what grade there in.The Freshman that started that year at LB was Carson Whitehead.
#10
If I'm a upperclassmen and a freshmen starts over me because the coaches feel we are the same, well then what real reason should I continue to work hard when I am not thought to be any better than a freshman and I have busted my guts out for the team.
#11
With 16 jrs and think 8 seniors I think lol but anyway no freshman should start
#12
Who would be the 8 th graders who would start position be
#13
What I meant on my comment was there will probably be at least ONE freshman starting....and that the older guys had better step up when things start getting tough or it WILL be an ugly season.
#14
What position will a 8th grader take
#15
Papagrit my opinion is they shouldn't be no freshman start this year because I think the freshman are just to small and plus every position I think of I see an upperclassmen in . But hey I'm just a sideline next day coach I have never lost a game I'm 700 -0 lol

LOL...yeah, me too bud. Just mark my words. There will be at least one freshman starting. You know me good enough to know that I'm not blowing hot air. Be a defensive secondary starter at the very least. Of course, I'm pretty close to two kids that started as freshmen on the line.
#17
My point was if the season is garbage, why not put fresh and sophs out there? If Rock goes winless anyway, what is accomplished playing all jrs and srs? I say make it open competition for every spot. Whoever works hardest and is best gets it.
#18
The season will NOT be garbage, You can argue to play freshman all you want. Most are not capable of playing varsity to the level of teams that Rockcastle is playing this year. Rockcastle plays big boy football....always has and always will.
#19
You got to put your best 11 on the field regardless of there age. Last year there were some players out there just to fills spots.

Tough. The same reason somebody coming into a company as a first year employee might make more than someone who has been there a couple more years. No difference. Part of it. Continue to work hard and let the chips fall where they may. Besides, while he might not admit it, that senior that quits his senior year will regret doing so the rest of his life. They don't admit it, bc they don't want the "I told you so's", telling them so down the road, but they regret it every time. Maybe that senior needs to "bust his guts", and try to play another position for the team. Because, if the team is what he's actually concerned about (and, not just saying it as a cop out), then that's what he'll do. After all, there is 22 positions on the field on the field.

I know a senior who went through this. He worked hard, but the fact was that he was very average. He was too small to play on the line and had younger guys ahead of him at his skill position. So, what's he do, asked the coach if could try playing other spots. He did just that, even though he didn't start. He ended up being a WR and working into that rotation, and was a full time special teams player. I mean, he played on every special team. Well, it didn't take long for that senior to figure out, that since he decided he wanted to "bust his guts for the team" and help in other areas; he ended up playing about 30+ plays a game (every special team and 25% of the offensive snaps). He'll never regret that decision, either. He'll also be able to look his son or daughter(s) in the eye one day, and when they are potentially facing the same hardships, he'll tell them his story and they too might stick things out. Life lessons learned.

If the senior truly wants to pull the "busted my guts for the team" card, then they should continue to do so. I'm guessing Rock is in the state of many programs across our state in the sense that most players (Seniors in particular) are one play away from starting, if they aren't already.

I'm not saying that freshmen shouldn't play you put the best on the field but if a freshman starts this year it be who they are not how good they are that's my opinion ,

Will be a long season if they lose to Madison Southern.
#23
I don't know if that's the litmus test of a long season. Southern has a D1 running back. I watched him play a couple if games last year and nobody tackled him. He ran out of gas. He'll be a jr this year and MS be good.

The most overblown excuse in sport. Fact is, it's easier for other players and parents (in particular) to say "So and so is playing because of his parents", instead of "My son just isn't good enough".

Fact.
#25
It is also a fact that sometimes kids do play because of who they are, who their parents are,. Now that is true, it happens at most programs.
#26
Umm, no it doesn't. Again, that's easier for parents and players to say than, "I'm not good enough, yet" or "he is better than me".

It's an overblown, cop out excuse.
#27
If you don't think that stuff happens then you must coocooo.
#28
It's almost as overblown as the classic, "I'm just burnt out" or "My heart isn't in it anymore" .

When that really means, "I'm now in high school and it's much more of a commitment. I'm going to have to practice everyday of the week, and also have to lift all off season. I now have competition and can't just show up and play in the games like I did in little league and middle school. No longer am I either the oldest on my team or just a year younger than the older kids. I now have to actually compete against kids who are 4 years older than me. So, I'm not going to play."

Compared to a large population of the general public, along with mommy and daddy's who are only concerned about the well being of their little Johnny; I am just that.

I know you probably mean incoming freshmen, but eighth graders can not play high school football.
You only get four years of eligibility when you enter high school, thus even if 8th graders were allowed to play, they'd have to sit out there senior year.
