2013 Belfry Pirates
BoondockSaint Wrote:Johnson would have never been in position to make a play 20 yards down the field against Central. You can't get 20 yards running east/west.

Not having a 3-step drop passing game, or an effective screen play, is what hurt us in this year's title game. Play-action on 3rd & long against a team bringing the house will get zero positive results everytime.

i should have said IF he went straight threw and no dancing around going east/west, just listening to most games on air, seems like thats what he mostly did..
Any offseason program in effect yet? If so, how is the turnout and effort look so far?
ha ha ha u still don,t get it if justin johnson plays in the title game the trophy would be in pond creek. he is the best back belfry,s got stats and games played proved that and as far as running east to west u don,t have a clue he is a north to south runner to.and i seen on here were someone said taylor was faster than johnson not what i was told 3 weeks ago johnson out run alot of them and he was in pants so before u go running ur mouth find out some facts yes if he plays title game championship in pond creek in of story. and yes his play for next year looks better everyday
10 yds runs for r backup backs is to the house for johnson thats the difference. and all these guys claming to be fast. then why does justin johnson run the 100 meter for belfry since 8th grade tell me please.me personally i hope he shows up at pike central for final year. and runs with his cousin marcus. thats were he staying at now.so stay tune for another episode of mountain football. the oline will be the difference this year in district play who gets it together the best.belfry had the best o line in the state last year but r losing to many of them this year. that could be the difference.:CheerleadConfusedinglepar
^ If Justin is able to play (and I really hope he can, SAFELY) I sure hope he suits up in a Belfry uniform. He is a good player and would make Belfry a better team. It has been my take that everyone at Belfry has really embraced and rooted for Justin to succeed as part of the team. There will always be some opinionated fans/parents, no matter where you go.

Again, I hope that he is able to PLAY somewhere. I hope he suits up for his Senior season with his teamates since god knows when. BUT, if he decides to go to Pike County Central, then I bid him good health and success.
i as well hope he plays, but PC wont win the district , or go further than Belfry, so he better stay where he is...
Let Johnson go to PikeCentral if he can't take the hit from other schools what to do think will happen when he faces Belfry and as far as he would of been the difference in the state title game I don't think so we took the best back field we had to state with out him in it he would of been on the side line crying not wanting to go back in the game after a few hard hits just like he done the year before last in the championship game so go to Pike Cenral everyone knows mr. Bojangles that you are Justin's dad all you do is toot your own kids horn the big picture is that it takes the whole team to be successful not just one individual.TongueirateShoTongueirateSho:cop:

we know that bojangles is justins dad and he does get carried away sometimes, but to say that about justin is unfair, the kid has taken many big hits, but getting hit in the head,is serious stuff, but if he wants to win and get another chance at a ring,he better stay put..
If you are Justin's dad or uncle, you should be ashamed of yourself. Firstly, for behaving the way you do and acting how you do on this website. Another horse in the stable of halfbacks would have ABSOLUTELY helped in the title game, but to say we'd have won? Who knows. The main issue is, you seem to not only promote individualism in the idea that Johnson is bigger than the team but dishonesty and lack of loyalty in the idea of going to Pike Central. Should he go, I bid him farewell and hope him the best and we WILL do fine without him. I love JJ to death, hope he's back in Pond Creek and if anything would like to see Marcus join him with the 2-time state champ, 7 time runner-up, more district titles than you can count, and 19-0 against PCCHS, Belfry Pirates. However, should Marcus choose to stay loyal so be it. Regardless, I hope you have little influence on this child because you're behaving awfully selfishly!
As for the offensive line, wanna count how many times we've had the best line in the district? Maybe even region? I guarantee you this, it goes back farther than 4 years (which is how long each group is here) ... We'll miss Taylor, Jude, May, and Willis as players, but we also miss Nelson, Duty, and Fields ... and Tackett and Francis ... and Cisco and Francis ... and Whetstone, Webb, Coleman ... and Stanley and Sutherland...

Point is ... Pond Creek Hawg Pride ... We don't rebuild... WE RELOAD.
0304 put it as well as you can. Everyone knows JJ is a good athlete, we all hope he is able to play again and have a healthy and great senior season. As for bojangles, well count me in as part of the crowd that has just heard enough from that guy.

I am starting to feel better about O-Line the more I think about it. There are some spots where there will be fierce competition IMO, and that is exciting. Shouldn't have to play more than 3-4 guys both ways.

Posts like this make people wonder how in the world Justin has turned out as good as he has!

Please, do us all a favor and just quit posting. :please:
Should be great competition at the open safety and CB spots. Lots of kids like Edwards, Williamson, Dari, Willis, Daniels, Bostic, Catron should have an epic fight in the secondary. I sorta expect K. Taylor will replace Robinson and play both ways but maybe not.

u got that right..
GO BIG RED!!!TongueirateSho
I would rather have a lane filling power hitter at safety. I see where you're coming from with Keaton, but that allows you to play Cover 2 comfortably cause his speed makes for a pretty good man-to-man corner.
^ I tend to agree man. K. Taylor's lean build, relative decent height, and speed seem to fit better at corner. I was just basing it on the fact that he was the next man in last year at safety best I could tell.
what team going to fill last spot
Maybe nobody, cuppett.

We had a few chances to play in a week 0 bowl game, but the general consensus among those involved in the decision making process seems to be that we would rather just play 9 games with an open date than give up a scrimmage in favor of a week 0 bowl.
Looking at our schedule, even with an open date in week 3, it is not a stretch to think that we could start out the season 2-4.

Somerset and Harlan will be a very tough tandem to start the season. Pirate teams start slow and these two squads are not ideal for opening the season. Gallia Academy and Christian Academy of Knoxville are going to be tougher than the first two.

I hope Pirate fans are capable of swallowing a few losses here and there for the greater good against a much tougher schedule, and not be focused solely on the W/L columns.
The goal is winning a title, not a nice regular season. The losses to good competition would be absolutely worth it.

Would hate to see only a 9 game schedule. The coaches have to do what is right to best prepare the team, but forgoing a game is a tough blow for the kids and the community. What bowl matchups out of curiosity? If you would rather not state it publicly, PM me.
Let's just say that from what I am told none of the offers are anything that were viewed as in our best interests. "Bowl" game may have not been the correct term for every offer, but there were a very small number of games we could have probably taken in week 0 that for one reason or another we decided not to accept. I don't know if any of them are still on the table now, and at the time they were offered we were still looking for something better suited to our needs.

Plus, we don't want to give up that 2nd scrimmage, which we really need, and we are still holding out hope we can fill the week 3 open date.

I don't want to name the schools that offered because I don't feel it is my place to do that, plus there may be a little bad blood there with at least one of them. I'm not really into taking info to private messaging, P2P. If I am not comfortable sharing something on here, then I wouldn't be comfortable sharing it privately either. I'm not trying to be a smart you know what either, just being straight forward. I hope you understand.
Even though i know their schedules are already complete its to bad that Wayne, Mingo Central or Logan out of WV cannot be added as the 10th game. Just a little wishful thinking on my behalf.
I would love to play Wayne, but if we did, it would be in place of Harlan County. In today's game I don't think we need to see two power teams in the regular season, since it's not a big issue in the playoffs.

theres more than 2 now, with the OH,TN teams
I sure hope it works out that they get a game. Even a patsy is better than nothing.

As for power versus spread opponents, Central is a power team. Knoxville will test us from a spread standpoint.
Central is a damn deadly combination, but we can handle their power standpoint. It's the athleticism that is the difference.
When is spring practice? It is very early, but is anyone in particular turning heads with offseason progression?

Not that I know of, haven't heard much. 6AM workouts are on I believe and some after school.
Was checking out the Johnson Central thread and it looks like the Belfry/JC game has been moved to week 3. Can anyone confirm? That would still leave week 10 open.
