You have one good year and win the district and I think it swelled your head. You had better win district again this year, or you may be out of luck for a while. You do know that Russell Co lost most of their key players, right? It probably does not matter who wins the district anyway, as I don't see any team in this district going any further this season. The district does seem to be wide open this year, as everybody had big losses in talent, with maybe Clay Co losing the least. Good luck on winning maybe your second district title, you guys are smoking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Rock been working hard a lot of great attitudes this year

Madison Southern is loaded this year with Harris. South Laurel will be much better now that they have a real coach. It could be a long year for the Rock.

I'm not saying you're wrong......but......I sure hope you are after dealing with last year's debacle. I'd probably pick KC as the favorite for the district crown this year. I don't know who will be runner up. Both Clay and Knox have big lines returning. Both Russell and Knox are gonna have to retune their backfields and kicking game. I have no idea what to expect from Rockcastle this fall. More nastiness and heart when the chips are down would go a long way in my book. Thirty point losses are the pits.:HitWall:

Rustyankle did chance get to go to any of the NUC camps yet.

big talk after losing starting qb,kicker, and britt ,russell will be ok on defense but will struggle scoring points tuff to replace talent that is gone.as far as the rock goes it all depends on the offensive line if they get that shored up they good be a pretty good team

Today is the Red/Blue game at the varsity field that winds up spring practice this year. No definite time is set as far as I know. May be pretty soon after school ends. I'm guessing about 4pm...but I really am not sure and it may be later. I'm going to be there around 4pm.

How did it go
#72
Had to work or was going, how did it go and any surprises and what are they doing on off and def.
#73
I mainly watched the lineplay. That is my biggest concern. Saw a few decent suprises in the positive way. Some future sophomores seemed to have stepped it up a bit on the line. Overall I'd give it a C which is more than I expected. Some throwing around and a few long runs.....some of which weren't just up the gut. Saw a few things that bothered me...but overall a decent performance. Not great by any means, but, decent.

How did the D look
#75
The secondary play looked better...one of things that bothered me was I still see some armtackling in the secondary. One kid had a tackle made and then tried to grab instead of using the body on a rumbling fullback...wound up on the ground hitting it with his fist and hollering as the fullback scored from thirty out. We got annnihilated last year for that stuff. I did see a couple of young guys step it up in the D secondary and they played well without much experience....but again, too much seperation a few times between the receivers and the DBs. Some good play, some not so much. The team as a whole had a more positive attitude than I saw last year which is a good thing. The D line as a whole is going to have to get more mobile or at least take better angles when attacking. To much chasing around in the backfield, more gang tackling is needed. The two sophomore linemen are some big old boys and if they keep coming around, things might not be too bad. One is so big that his nickname is "Village". If he gets his aggression up, he is pretty tough to defend. Again, I saw better play than I expected from the line as a whole. I've got my fingers crossed.

Any speed this year?

Will Josh Martin run the defense now since Tony Saylor will not be coaching?

Not really...not this year. No pulling away speed in my opinion. They are going to have to get creative and play solid D.

Yes, Coach Martin will be running the defense. It will be his own defense this year. Probably a hybrid of what he learned from Saylor. Parkey will be the one running offense, and it will be his own from what I understand. Don't really know what to expect this year on offense. I saw a few new wrinkles during spring ball. The kids will have to buy into the system and play team ball with heart for them to have a decent season. If they do that they can have a decent season in my opinion after watching spring ball, if not..........we revisit last season. A lot of stuff will have to come together.

What does that mean? Martin's own defense and Parkey's own offense. Didnt they always have their own?

Didnt Parkey always run his own offense. Im confused, did someone else run the offense?

What exactly does his own offense look like or try to do?

Thanks for the input for those like me that dont get around much.

What I meant is this....if you've ever been associated with Rockcastle football then the old school of thinking has been run it between the tackles 90 percent of the time and make another team stop you. When Rockcastle had big linemen and a lot of kids coming out, this worked fine. If they had a really good quarterback, they would run between the tackles 80 percent of the time and throw a little.
From what I've seen of Parkey, he would like to mix it up probably 50/50 or 60/40 run/pass. With the lack of success he has had this past year, he has the old school people growling to keep it between the tackles and run down the clock while controlling the ball. His losses are blamed by them for the amount he is throwing it, which causes turn overs and letting other teams score against a weaker defense than Rockcastle has had in the past. New school people are screaming, the reason he is losing is because he never throws it around and nobody respects his passing game which allows the box to get loaded up and that is like running a back into a bulldozer blade. They blame this for the reason why the team has taken more lumps lately. It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation for Parkey and I don't think he has been able to run things as he sees they should go. Everyone I have been around in the program has a reason why this program isn't the grand program of the nineties and early 2000's. I even have my own opinion on what could be done differently or should have been done differently in the past.....but opinions are like buttholes....everyone has one and likes to sound it off occasionally. I'll keep mine to myself on this day.
Defensively, the D side of the ball has always been Coach Saylor's. He has an excellent defensive mind and has forgotten a heck of lot more about defense and football than most know including myself. Though Coach Martin was the mouth of the defense and helped guide them, it was still Saylor's defensive scheme on the field and his mind that controlled it and watched over it from the perch at games. This year, Martin will have the defensive calls to himself as far as I know. It's his baby and his alone. I would expect more blitzing and chance taking than with the conservative defense that Coach Saylor ran...but who knows what he will do.
When I said it is their own offense(Parkey's) and defense(Martin's) this year, I meant they should have no ties to any of the past coaches or programs when they make their calls on the field this year. They should have their hands loose with nobody telling them what plays to run or how they should do things. In other words...it's their team to win or lose with. They've been given a rope...they can put both hands on it and tow it or make a noose and hang themselves with it. It's all up to them with nobody else to blame or take credit for with what happens on the field this season or next.
With all my heart, I hope these boys get things turned around and I wish them success because I like both of them. I might not agree with ALL they do, but I do like them both and have respect for them.

Thanks for update. But one thing I didn't understand is when you said no one telling Parkey what to run now, was someone else calling the plays or him, he is the head coach and did what he wanted to didn't he?

Heck I thought everyone knew that Saylor called everything at rock!! Parkey was just a figure head while he was there

LOL....no...Parkey is the man. We'll just see what he does on his own this next year with Coach Martin. He and Martin are pretty tight....we'll just see what the two of them cook up. I just imagine that even though Parkey is the head man...it might have been tough coaching his own way with an authority figure assistant coach under him. Kind of like being your Dad's boss. You might call the shots...but you better walk softly around somebody that deserves so much respect. Get what I'm saying?

Why is Tony not coaching?

He retired, he had been it the program my whole life and then some. he had a pretty nasty farm accident a couple months ago. doing alot better now. I wouldnt be surprised to see him some where along the side lines on Friday nights.

If he retires, he will let them have it, support them, but not be on the sidelines.

You have to give Rock credit.
For that program to be as strong as its been over the past 25 years is amazing.
There is no major city in Rockcastle County. Little Mount Vernon and Livingston are far from decent size towns, and yet the talent has always been good there. Theyve competed and beaten schools in Pulaski, Laurel, and Whitley County for years, and theyll get there mojo back.
Thats a good sports county.
