Well it's time for the 2 time state champions in middle school to live up to their hype, this years Corbin senior and junior class. Coming off a losing season last year surley Corbin will finish higher than 3rd in their district with all this talent? I can't believe how much Corbin Football has fallen, instead of talking state championship their fans are on here comparing talent levels to one of the smallest football schools in the state ( 200 total enrollment). The KHSAA gave Corbin every opportunity in the world to win another state championship since 1982 by letting them play in a class that they had double the enrollment of before moving them to 3a. After next years realignment Corbin will be 4a and well we know what that means. In all honesty Williamsburg and Corbin talent levels are about equal Sizemore best qb, Patrick top tailback and linebacker, best 2 recievers Griffith and Shelton, best lineman Chris Helton. Fullback I would go with Powers (Corbin) Coppack,Waddle,Taylor,Reedy are all good athlets, then both teams have a lot of good player that can play lots of different positions. As a Williamsburg fan I would like to thank Corbins middle school coach Jackson for developing such good player and completing his goals of winning state championships, but I don't know who to think for a lot of these kids showing up to play for Williamsburg?

The three players you mentioned that could play for Corbin are good athletes and could play about anywhere but, you didn't mention one of the best line men in the state, Chris Helton, 6foot 3 308 lbs and quick as a cat. also Collin Lamoree this guy is 6 foot 3 250 and was a monister in the play offs last year. Ethan Wilson 6foot 4 1/2 250 has not been tested but appears to be awesome. Another thing you didn't consider when you counted the players from Williamsburg that could play for the hounds Our skill players are geared to run routes and catch the ball you don't throw it that much they may very well not make your team, Good luck Corbin you have the best coach in Kentucky, he is a leader of young men and every kid that has played for him would go through hell for him He is a Christian and leads the Teams that he has coached with that as his guide, He is what each player will love to play for even if they ride the pine he is a winner this year I predict he will win another state championship for Corbin Middle School good luck coach Jackson go get them

Is that the same Coach Jackson that went on a cussing frenzy and got thrown out of the Wburg because a 2 pt conversion was ruled no good?

Middle school championships don't mean much once you get to high school, as Corbin is finding out.
Here are a few of the reasons that CMS has had success:
1. Coaching staffs that know how to get the most out of the kids.
2. The best athletes play.
3. A lot of kids who have held back, but this can also hurt at the high school level due to kids who are younger and not as physically mature giving up the sport due to being behind the older kids.

Corbin has always played in the correct class for their enrollment, with the exception of the year before the latest reclassification. The enrollment has exploded due to their academic reputation and the Knox Co. systems troubles. Once Knox Co. refused to sign the reciprocal agreement, the number of kids coming to Corbin from Knox Co. has increased 30-40%, not really what Knox expected.

I said 3-4 and that was including Helton. IMO Sizemore, Griffith, and Helton would all start on Offense, on defense those three and Patrick. I will agree 100% that many of your athletes fit your system better than they would at Corbin. They run good routes, and have great hands. Thus, when comparing two teams from different systems it's hard to say who would start. I was just giving my opinion that those were the only 4 that could start at Corbin.

64SUR brought this debate up. I have nothing against Williamsburg. If Corbin is away I will go to a Whitley or Williamsburg game that Friday. And I'm not downing them by saying Corbin has more talented Atheltes because they should by the numbers. I was just stating that IMO Corbin is the better team. Sizemore is the best QB, Griffith is the best WR, but Patrick wouldn't start on Offense at Corbin. They saw the writing on the wall and that's why he is at Williamsburg. He would be a great linebacker at Corbin. As for the rest of the kids you mentioned most of them were late bloomers and I hated to see them leave Corbin, but if you're right about them starting this year I will definitely want to come watch a couple more jacket games. I had no idea that Ethan Wilson transferred to Williamsburg, last I heard he had an injury that would no longer allow him to play football.

Is that the same Coach Jackson that didn't win 1 game the year after the Championship team and got beat 58-0 last game of the year by N Laurel?
Is it the same coach Jackson who refuses to play Whitley co?

Shelton would start on at least 1 side of the ball for Corbin.

As I said in my post earlier depending on which system we are talking about it's hard to say who would start. If Shelton was on Corbin's team running a Spread offense then yes he would definately start. If he was on the roster running Corbin's usually offense then no I don't think he would start. However, he would be one of the first guys in for their passing packages. And no I don't think he would start on Defense either.

Football fevor NO. I know you are a Whitley county fan and some of you don't get it most of us who post here are flat out for WC when we are not playing them and that is true with most mountain schools and would never post aganst another program or coach purley out of them being successful and coach Jackson is the real deal.
07-10-2013, 06:21 PM
Coach Jackson never refused to play WC and you can't give me any reason why he would. I think he played 17 or 18 games a season for the last 3 years. Whitley County plays fewer games year in and year out than any middle school in the area that does not mean that every team they don't play for what ever reason is afraid to play them,

He obviously is an excellent coach however I know for a fact he was thrown out of the Wburg game. I know N Laurel beat them 56-58 to 0 or 6 or 8. I don't think they won a game that year but it might have been 1.
And I know for a fact he would not play or scrimmage Whitley.

I'm really not sure what your comment means. I've not mentioned anything about players, kickers. playing for me or any kids name.
Games are won by the team with the best players. ex. Corbin 8th winning every game and state championship. ex Corbin 8th not winning a game the next year.

For you to so adamantly make false accusations makes me think I can't give weight to any comments you post on here. Brent Jackson was not thrown out of the Williamsburg. Coach Barnett the defensive coach was thrown out after Williamsburg was awarded a 2pt conversion when they were clearly short. And coach Jackson had an bad season with one of the worst Corbin teams in history, but developed those kids into athletes that will be able to play in high school. Jefferson played as an eight grader. Ethan Wilson played as a 7th grader. The rest watched. These are the kids that have matured late (probably young). I hope they get to play and win a State Championship. That shows how many kids can play in that age group at Corbin.

If im not mistaken, they were Whitley wins.
I know in the couple of JV games that Corbin agreed to were Whitley wins.

The last time I saw the two play was about 5 years ago, Corbin won the 8th grade game by something like 40-0 and Whitley won the 7th grade game 35-13.

If it was not Coach Jackson thrown out of the game then I apologize. The play was actually a 2 point conversion that Corbin ran that was ruled no good but you are right it was clearly short. The team did not win a game that next year and lost to N. Laurel last game.
NEVER said he was afraid to play just said he refused. I know for a fact corbin would not schedule a game the Championship year, not sure why, and the following year would not schedule a game or scrimmage. Why he didn't play or hasn't I don't know.

Back to whats important. Looking at Corbin schedule you have to think SW, Perry, Trimble, SL, Casey. McCreary wins. Not sure any will be close but SW could pose a challenge and SL is a ?. The other 4 games will be toss ups. Wayne is probably the 1 you would think will be a lose especially on the road. Bell lost I think 15 seniors but they are a team that won't beat themselves. Danville will definitely be winnable at home. KC will be a great game and atmosphere. Gotta give KC advantage but that late in the year you will have to take into account injuries, momentum, teams may need to rest players to heal up before playoffs,
I look at Corbin 8-2 or 7-3. 9-1, 10-0 is not out of. Corbin really needs to get a home playoff game.

I think your right.
That was the only middle school game where Corbin beat Whitley if im not mistaken. Horrible year for the Colonels in that one. I think they played 5 or 6 years in a row didnt they? I believe the 7th grade game your referring to was this past years seniors.
I also believe they played a JV game twice, and i know Whitley won the one game 16-8 and im not sure on the other. Both teams JV squad were gutted though, to many young guys playing varsity.

The real question is how many kids on Corbin's team could start at Williamsburg? This Corbin team is not loaded with athletes. WIlliamsburg has much better team speed. Coach Jewell worked a miracle to get as much out of them as he did last year. Waddle is a tremendous athlete who played quarterback out of necessity. Powers is a big strong kid who would help anyone. Who else will make the All Mountain team from Corbin? This isn't one of those Corbin teams that intimidate you getting off the bus. To go with their lack of speed they were terrible up front last year.

I think you may be surprised by Corbin's speed this year, I believe that Waddle and Jackson are as fast as anyone in this area. They have more good athletes on this team than any time I can recall in the last 5-6 years, now whether that translates into wins, only time will tell.
Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure these Corbin kids would start for Williamsburg.
