When you put a good solid team on the field every once in awhile, you have to jump at the opportunity to brag, boast, and toot your own horn, because it only comes along a few times per decade. But when you are the Belfry Pirates, you don't have to jump at that opportunity because WE put solid teams on the field on an extremely regular basis! I don't have a dog in this fight, but I love to talk football so here I go.
I know that Harlan County don't have all the tradition that you do in Belfry because they are a pretty new school. I have all the respect in the world for the Belfry program and what they have done for mountain football. This Harlan county team has done pretty much nothing but win and go to the playoffs from the get go. They have one of if not the toughest schedules every year. I think it is pretty safe to say at this point that Harlan County has become one of the mountain powerhouse teams. I know they don't have a championship yet but just give it time. Harlan County has a problem in 5a that comes in the color purple just like Belfry has in 3a that comes in the colors yellow and black. This is football and respect is for the off season, but when you play one another that is the enemy that you want nothin more than to beat the living daylights out of and that is they way it should be. Now when the game is over and a victor has been declared then you can have all the respect in the world for one another..........that is if there's no chance you could meet again in the playoffs.

My prediction for this game is Harlan County-35 Belfry 17
I will be very shocked if Harlan County don't represent the mountains in 5a at Bowling Green this year.......I believe they are that good and they came close last year. I don't think they are ready for Bowling Green (the team) at this point but if they can come out of this schedule healthy then you never know. This is just my opinion and you know what they say about those stinky things. nicker:

Sorry friend, Harlan County will have the buses ready. Belfry will get blown out in this one. Its going to get very ugly very early.
And Whitley wasnt that good that year. Lost 4 or 5 games. And im not a Whitley fan. Im all about my Black Bears and there filthy animal defense.
Im Harlan County born and raised, and were ready for an emergency room afternoon son!!!!!!

If HC was a 3A team, it would be all over.

2nd place is just as big of a loser as 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

I hope Haywood runs what is working offensively. I felt like Belfry was having their way with the fullback and inside power plays. IMO we got a little too cute with some of the triple option o. A few occasions. I'm sure he was wanting to see how well we could execute it with Harlan coming up.

I disagree, I would much rather say had we won, we'd be state champs. Harlan has to say "if we won, and then won again" ... I'll take what we have over anything. And yes, if they put a school with 1200 kids in 3A it probably would be all over LOL

I know one thing, if you practice what your username preaches, you'll be giddy on Friday. A lot of "running it up the gut" will be going on!

There will be a huge amount of running it up the gut, the way the games suppose to be played!

Only problem is HC will be doing it a lot more. ATLEAST 400 yards on the ground for the Bears in this one.

I played the saxophone, I was nowhere near good enough to be on that filthy animal defense. It was nothing but Emergency Room Afternoons on the practice field. I remember watching them from band practice tackling would be pirates all day. It was nasty.
