The JFL program at Russell is fine. In as good as shape as ever. Matter of fact is those kids came through JFL last year and all they did was go undefeated as freshmen. Another matter of fact. Those kids that came through Russell's JFL beat that vaunted freshman group from Greenup in their first freshman game this year. You should probably quit thinking. You don't appear to be very good at it.
Ashland has a great D?
You should really check your facts. Good for a laugh though. :devilflam

Look for Ashland to roll. Rivalry game or not.

I never said Raceland wasn't a good team all I was saying is Ashland doesn't have as good of a defense as you said they do. As far as Racelan goes, I won't be sold on them until they beat a good team.

This will b a good game

FBall, Ashland will win 7-8 games this year and Russell may win 3. The JFL would be better off playing all the teams in the area. You have to admit that would help the kids get better. They have a lot of promise but teams outside of Russell would help them see more.

1 Ashland will not win 7or 8 games although they will win this one unfortunately I believe. 5 or 6 tops for the kitty cats.
2 Russell will win 5 or 6 maybe 7.
3. Russell's JFL is fine. No need to travel around limiting numbers to go play other schools when we can play a 9 game schedule and get more kids more reps playing all of our games at home. Like I said. Freshmen went undefeated last year. Already beat a Greenup freshman class that everybody has nothing but praise for. These are the first two freshman classes to go all the through JFL since we got rid of those goofy grade teams. But that's ok. You Ams can relish those middle school play off runs for decades. You pretty much have to since that's the closest thing to a championship ever down there.

I think Russell grade ball years is what got us in the shape we have been in the past few years. I'm not saying its the only thing but it does share responsibility in it. Our JFL is a feeder program for the high school plain and simple.

someone told me that all of the starters playing now except the Conley kid all played grade ball together and against other schools. Sounds like the GOOFY grade teams produced some quality players out of that GOOFY group. Heard this from a guy you know.
09-08-2013, 06:32 PM
That would be incorrect from the guy we know.
In fact every kid on this team came through at least one year of the current JFL. Honestly the younger classes are much stronger.

I think the Ironton game is a toss up. Actually I like Ironton a little bit in that one. But even if they beat Ironton that gives them 7 wins tops. They have no shot at Johnson Central or 8 wins.

I predicted 5-6 at the beginning. I still can't believe Raceland let that one get away. So 6-7.

I agree with 6 and maybe 7 wins they can get by a down Ironton team. Maybe a playoff win because of the 2 seed in a weak district (minus JC) and then its season over in week 2 of the playoffs.

Whoever is 3 seed from NKY could be tough but for the most part I Agree.

Listen Ive seen this Ashland Team play this year and they are young and D is POOREST but if last years team plays this year their record is the same!!! They would have given up fewer points but would have lost the same 2 games!! Ashland is down a little but they will blow some teams out and Russell is one of them!!

Ashland beat a better George Washington team last year at GW and no way do they lose to NCC. I like your optimism. But this will not be a blowout.

That GW team was without Switzer and despite the record I really like this team!!!

I saw Newport Catholic firsthand this Friday night. They are not a very good team and have very few weapons. If Russell has any offense, I cannot imagine them not doing the same thing to Ashland's D that New Cath did. Based on those who know the program the best on this site, it certainly sounds like Ashland needs to get much better defensively to win big games. Is Russell really that bad? Could this be a better game than many expect?

Russells best team is standing on the sidelines every Friday night, its their jv team. If they played the starters in a real game my moneys on the jv. I know it dosent mean much but another good win at coal grove tonight.

I think you will start to see more and more of those sophomore linemen each week.
Russell is young in spots and probably will get a little younger as the season goes on.

Russell had two 8 minute drives in the first half against Greenup County both ending in field goals. They tried to just line up and go toe to toe with a much bigger Ironton front line. If you are going to play that style you better put it in the end zone.
Russell is down by their own standard but still capable. This is the year they bottom out because they are going to get better and better. I think they will move the ball. The question is can they stop The Tomkittens.

I watched a couple of Russell's scrimmages. I have grown to have a lot of respect for the program. That said, they have VERY few athletes. Not a single speedster on the roster unless Conley runs better than I think. They do have enough in the lower classes tho to be ok IF they get a couple playmakers. Mcglones stuff will work if you have some studs to run it. Look at Scott co.

Conley has some speed. I think he's running a little tentative being just a freshman.
Korzep can make some plays but isn't fast. Spencer Cole is a kid in the sophomore class that has some speed. Thompson is also pretty fast but small. He sat out the scrimmages waiting on eligibility
McKee at QB is not a speed burner by any means but that is a kid that just has a feel for the game. As he gets more experience and more comfortable the offense as a whole will improve.

Yes they still had there other d1 linebacker/fullback in crouser and a better defense and we beat them on there field. This GW team was good but nowhere near as good as the one last year

NKY vs EKY new cath would probably put a running clock on russell

Russells defense isn't that bad. The offense needs to be able to put it in the end zone. Defense just wore down against Ironton.Like I stated before, Russell has enough talent to freely sub and keep everyone on d fresh but they refuse to use what they have for some reason
09-11-2013, 01:52 PM
If this game is close they we're in trouble. Russell's offense is horrible so that will give the Tomcat D a much needed boost in confidence. There's no way that Russell will be able to slow down Quentin Baker either.
