The Real Moutain Top 10 (week of 9/29)
#31
From someone who has seen both JC and Belfry JC is tops in mtns. Nota knock on belfry at all they are defiantly #2. I'm not basing it on the outcome of the bears game either. Just an observation that JC is a bunch better than belfry right now. Bigger and faster, which is scary.
I'm jot knocking PC either but they'd be 2-3or 3-2 with either of those schedules too, I just don't think you can judge PC right now based on that they've played no one.
Either way the bears will be a lot better toward end of year and can't wait.

1. Belfry
2. Pulaski co.
3 Johnson central (wayne county would be here if they was in the mts)
4 north laurel (right now)
5.Harlan co
6.Corbin (because they are undefeated)
7.Williamsburg (2-2 because have play a tougher schedule)
8.Middlesboro (because they are undefeated)
9. Hazard ( because they are hazard)
10.somerset (because I think somerset is better than their record)

The KHSAA's alignment is a JOKE.

Bell County is as much Eastern Kentucky as a bluegrass music.

JC fans have a great deal of respect for Belfry. In any given year, the JC-Belfry game can go either way. But you have most Harlan County fans who have seen both teams play, as well as some Belfry fans who are familiar with JC's program, saying that JC is better than Belfry at this point of the season.

Johnson Central fans know from experience that Belfry, like JC, often starts slowly but is a totally different team by playoff time. The fact that both Belfry and JC seem to be developing ahead of schedule this season tells me that the late season match-up will be a classic.

Bottom line - at this time the top two teams in the Mountains are:

1. Johnson Central
2. Belfry

That order does not change if you include Pulaski County, Wayne County, Ashland, or any other foothills team in the list. The gap between JC and Belfry and whichever team is #3 will not get any smaller than it is right now.

With JC traveling to Belfry this season, I would not be surprised at all if the Pirates find a way to win that game, but except for the possibility of the teams suffering injuries, the game is always a great send-off for both teams as they head into the playoff season.

Until (and unless) JC loses a game, the Golden Eagles deserve the King of the Mountains title.

While there easily a mountain team, its easy to eclude them though, when there this bad.

Nope. That teams is starting to get beat to death all the time while there program falls further and further.

They better call Dudley and offer a couple million Confusednicker:

Rumor has it Dudley is not happy these days!! I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in the high school mix next year.

I did not mean to suggest that they should or should not be on the list, just that they should not be excluded from such a list simply because the geographically-challenged KHSAA places them in the West.

I dont know if Bell has enough money to bring him back now Confusednicker:

Oh yea, your correct as far as that goes.
Bell is definitely a "mountain" team.
#41
1 and 2 should be Johnson Central and Pulaski.
call it a tie.

3 Belfry.
#42
1. Belfry 2. Johnson Central 3. Pulaski Co. 4. Harlan Co. 5. Middlesboro 6. Bell Co. 7. Crobin 8. North Laurel 9. Hazard. 10. Knox Central ....Williamsburg get honorable mention

Middlesboro and Bell are under ranked, Wayne co isn't a Mountain team but if they were they would be 5 ....1&2 are a tie for me

you have to consider the A classes and how these team would stack up verse each other to map the Mtn Top 10...if these teams all play each other I think this is how they play out.

we will know more about 5-6-7 after the Corbin/Bell Co game in a couple of weeks... I watched the Corbin/Middlesboro Scrimmage and Bell/Middlesboro game and have a really good ideal about how well these teams will stack up

I have watch all the teams play minus the top four which I believe have set themselves apart from the rest with what I hear and see in who they have played

I appreciate your opinion about the redhounds/middlesboro scrimmage. I was also there and while I don't think the jackets are too far behind Corbin I don't see how you ovule rank them above them. Corbin is 10-14 pts better them middlesboro on the road. The last score was on the JV and middlesboros second sore was on about 1/3 of Corbin's varsity on the feild. Not taking anything from the jackets again they are a real good team and will do well this year. That's just the way I seen it. Corbin is on a bye week so when people say we are not playing nobody they will be exactly right. Lol. I really wish we would have had a tougher non district schedule this year. Hope it doesn't come back to haunt us over the next 3-4 weeks.

GO BIG RED!!!! Good luck to all the mountain teams let's get a state champion close to home.

I have seen both teams and JC looks like the better team and should be #1 right now but Belfry is built to compete with them and they have a great coach and a great program! That will be one SLOBBER KNOCKER of a game! Well worth the price of admission!!!

I don't disagree with the scrimmage recount, but with that said and I hate to do this but..... Corbin won but had a hard time with Southwestern (14-0) who got beat by Knox Central (31-28 neutral site) who got smoked by Bell (34-12) who got beat by middlesboro (28-14) So I believe Bell and Middlesboro are better 5 games into the season. Corbin's week schedule doesn't hurt but it doesn't help them getting ready for district's either. Bell has played 5 good teams and improved Middlesboro weak schedule will hurt them but they have athletes galore. Corbin may prove me wrong we will see Oct 18th

Being ranked #1 in any poll has NEVER won any team a state championship.

Heck, I wish JC wasn't even ranked. It's nice for bragging rights and discussion boards.

But I know this JC team wants a 4A state title more than being 'ranked' #1 in the mountains.

All those hours in the weight room and the 2 A-Day practices in the summer aren't for being 'Ranked' #1 in some stupid poll.
#47
Man I couldn't agree more about rankings. It is all for fans not teams.

Amen!!!

[quote=Go Big Red!]Thought I would throw this list out early this week!! Looks like last weeks version stacked up well after Friday nights football action.

1) Belfry
2) Johnson Central
3) Pulaski
4) Corbin
5) Harlan Co
6) North Laurel
7) Middlesboro
8) Bell Co
9) Pikeville
10) Hazard

Wymt's version 9/24/13
1) Belfry
2) Pulaski Co
3) Johnson Central
4) Corbin
5) Harlan Co
6) North Laurel
7) Middlesboro
8) Pikeville
9) Hazard
10) Bell Co

IMO my version is much closer to were these teams stack up!! Only a couple differences with JC being the biggest they have to be 1-2 and I have Bell a couple spots higher. The rest are spot on!

J C is the #1 team
#51
You know its a bad year for mountain football when your get to the 5th or 6th spot and start thinking about teams that already has 2 or 3 losses and doesnt look that good.

I think we need to go old school WYMT this year and only put up 5.

I think Johnson Central and Belfry are on equal playing fields right now. Belfry had several scoring opportunity's that wont be missed later in the season and Johnson Central benifited greatly on HC miscues. The outcome could have just as bad in either game.

This matchup will be a great one regardless, with both teams gearing up for the playoffs everything will be on the line. If I had to, at this point in the season I have to take Belfry as the best team in the mountains. They could have hurt HC a lot worse then the final score.

Coulda woulda shoulda!!! Give us a break with that bull, Belfry was down at the half and if Cole Wilson had not gotten hurt just before half Belfry might have not even got the win??
