I may catch some flak for this thread.... but I'm sorry, I gotta speak my mind. So if this thread offends you..... tell WYMT they dropped the ball.
Last night (Monday), they showed the "UPIKE Top 5 Plays" from this past week.
Johnson Central's kicker Tyler Pack set a new state field goal record of 60 yds. And they didn't even show a clip or mention as a top play. (this thread isn't about the the difference bewteen the two types of field goals either)
Please don't say there is no footage of the kick, I have 2 different clips of it posted on my Facebook wall. One from the Greenup County pressbox and one from a dad of a JC player.
A sophomore, from a mountain school, breaks the state field goal record.... and it's not even in the mentioned in the top plays by the channel that covers that school. C'mon Man!!!!!

I was just talking to a friend of mine about how much WYMT sports has declined since The Rock left. He would've never allowed this to happen, IMO!
Sports Overtime isn't close to being the same anymore, and I really miss The Rock's little video clips that he would post every Monday morning about the previous games. He was good to mountain sports; hope Louisville appreciates him.

I have heard about this kick.
At what point in the game was the fair catch done and what was the score then?

Sports Overtime is just a shadown of what it used to be during the Milam/Casebolt era......

First bolded part.....
I think there was less than 3 minutes to go in the game.
Second bolded part....
Before the kick, it was JC leading 51-0.

I think the top 5 plays come from games in which they (WYMT Crew) attended and got highlights from. A state record is an amazing accomplishment but doesn't necessarily mean it’s the play of the week. There are several kids throughout the state who can take a free kick and put it through the uprights. Nordin from Paintsville would be one of those.

Its the same as kicking it in the endzone from a kickoff isnt it.
Guess he kicked it from the 50 yard line. I say most kickers can do that also.

That late in the game and leading by 51.
Wouldnt that be considered running up the score or bad sportsmanship. Because it would have to be after a punt and the offense had to go straight out and kick it and otherwise the JC offense could have run the clock out after the punt.

No. And here's why.
The score could have easily 54-0 at half time.
Greenup Co. had one earned 1st down all night. And that was against our JV/Frosh players on the drive prior to the field goal kick.
Yes, passing the ball and leaving the varisty players in the entire game would be running up the score, but that wasn't the case.

But fair catching with 3min to go so a kid can try to break a record while up 51-0 is fair? Pretty low on the coach IMO, I hope the other coach didnt shake his hand because he showed no sportsmanship.

:dudecomeon:
There could have been some scoring records, rushing records, passing records broke in this game if JC wanted to.
I've seen probably 95% of JC's football games since the Matney era started at JC in '04. And this game was probably the most mis-matched contest I have ever witnessed. Ask anybody from either side Greenup or JC and they will tell you the same thing. Greenup Co. is a district opponent, we have to play them. A once respectful program has fallen on hard times.... it happens. JC was in the same boat for 3 seasons.... 5-25 isn't something to hang your hat on.

My name is Alex Green.... JCHS class of 2003. I'm the skinny guy with the lazy right eye that is on the chain crew at JC football games.
I'm not one of these Keyboard Warrior's on this site.
What Pack did is incredible..... as a sophomore, he will break his own record, maybe 2-3 more times before he graduates.
I'm proud, as I'm sure every other JC fan is, that he plays on our team. And when you watch the video.... you see his TEAM MATES and coaches are just as excited as he is. That is what is so great about this season... You can see the players are just as happy no matter who scores, makes the big defensive hit or kicks a state record field goal.

I say great job young man. 60 yards is 60 yards, regarless how you slice it. I think the only reason why is not getting the pub ( publicity ) it deserved, is because it was a free kick. No pressure as far a defense trying to block it and he got a running start to boot the ball. Regarless 60 yards in the record books.

WYMT sports department is definitely slipping. They only go to a select few games anymore. I guarantee there will be clips from games that involve teams from Pike County, one in particular. They will even go as far as Somerset/Pulaski county before they will show clips from games 20-30 minutes away from the station.

This is the biggest let down I have had with WYMT Sports. How many times do you have a state record set in your viewing area? Much to the dismay of a lot of posters here, it is a STATE RECORD IN THE BOOKS! How could they not cover this or at least play it on the air?
And to some posters here who think the 60yd free kick is a cupcake or they have kids at their school that can kick that easy, why have they not done it? What is their record for a tradtional live kick. Pack's is 58 yd, top that.
No love for JC at all at WYMT. I get so tired of seeing Pulaski County or the Hazard area teams on their every week. I wonder if they will find it worth their while to drive all the way to Belfry and conver the JC- Belfrey game. Think we can get some air time from Pulaski County or the Hazard area teams, I doubt it.
Please bring back Milam and Casebolt, they wouild make the drive and would be all over any STATE RECORD!

I don't even get wymt any more. I used to pay an extra 14.00 a month just to get sports over time. No more! I just look at the sports online! Sometimes! It's terrible!

WSAZ channel 3 made mention of Tyler Packs 60 yarder.

No other player has up to this point thus making your statement a fallacy. The Tigers should have an ample amount of opportunities to surpass that number this weekend should they choose to do so. Until someone else nails a FG from greater than 60 yards; whether it be Pack, Nordin or little Jimmy from Mayfield, there really is no need for individuals to habitually chastise this not so small feat. Best of luck to the Tigers this week.

Im no football guru, and maybe Zaga can confirm this but if WYMT wasnt physically there standing at the game with a camera in there hands, then there not going to show it on the air.
Since Sportsovertime comes on right after games are finishing up, theres no time to get permission to use footage and theres no way to get the written permission it takes to show it, even if its some guy with a camera on the sideline. They wont risk it.
I know Sportsovertime has went downhill a little since the departure of several really good anchors, but lets face it, its not because of WYMT, the blame should sit squarely on the shoulders of CBS.

60 yard kick, how can that not be in a top 5, thats an amazing kick, some nfl kickers couldnt do that

:biglmao: now youre being crazy, theres not a kicker pro or college that couldn't put it through with a freebe from the fifty, come on man.

I used to never miss Sports Overtime, but I never watch it anymore because it has gone down hill so bad. I know listen to Sports Central on Friday nights at 10:30 and then watch the Sports Guys on Pike TV the following Tuesday.

While I'm not a huge fan of the quality of their sports show since Rock left, I will say that if you consider the size of the coverage area and the distance between games sometimes, it is a miracle to get to as many as they do get to. I mean, I look at it, and I see coverage from Rockcastle County, Middlesboro, Williamsburg, Danville, Pikeville, Somerset, Hazard all in one night. Go on, look at the map and do the math, that takes some serious planning and driving. Just playing devils advocate here, but I'd bet money they will be at the Johnson Central-Belfry game, because that will be an all out war. I wish it were more extensive, but they are a fairly small station with a limited personnel. Guess we just have to be happy with what we get.

So WYMT should follow JC's every move waiting for a "potential" state record. I don't think so. This game was a blowout and WYMT knew it would be. They went to other area games that were competitive to get highlights. I agree that sports overtime isn't what it used to be but like other posters said, this is a small station with limited personnel that do a good job with their resources.
Again, not taking anything away from the kid. I've saw him kick. He is an outstanding kicker who has a bright future.
Congrats Pack :1:

I just found out that there are two different videos of the kick and I know both would be happy to let WYMT play it on the air. As far as I know, neither has been contacted.
