You all never answer that. There not going to play so there is no way you can convince me that Highlands could beat BG just because they have in the past.
Robert Morris beat UK last year. Do you think it will happen this year just because? Or are they totally different teams playing in a NEW season?
Thats just a year. Its been years since Highlands and BG have played.
You said BG was "by far the best team in the state." So using your logic, you can't prove what you are saying just as I supposedly can't prove what I am.
They may not play each other, but I knew when Highlands, cov cath, and Johnson central moved to 4A that BG would have a much easier path, and would likely try to convince themselves that they are the best in the state because they are in a Highlands-free 5A.

Thats my opinion off of known facts.
Highlands fans only reasoning is that BG couldnt do it before, so they cant do it now. Thats hog wash. These players werent even on those teams.
BG has beaten better teams, looked better, and is overall better then Highlands on paper to me. Thats all we have to go by.

I guess with Trinity losing, the Highlands fans will come out of the woodwork to try and claim superiority.

2 male
3 Trinity

Most of the teams they lost too. Are teams most of the other teams outside of Highlands & BG wouldn't have a chance to even score on.
But I can't wait for Trinity to lose to Moeller next week and finish 4-6.

So it's only facts when you state something, but not someone on the other side?
Since BG has "beaten better teams," let's look at the schedules.
BG plays Lexington Catholic and St. X. Both legitimate opponents. But other than that, there's not a lot other than a 3-5 McCallie team. Blackman, TN is legit. I will give them the benefit of the doubt on their district in that they, like Highlands, cannot help who they have to play. BG always plays Trinity or St. X really well. The 05 and 06 teams that were slaughtered by Lex Cath and Cov Cath (respectively) both came within a touchdown of beating St. X. The 07 team that was begging for mercy against Highlands in the state finals gave Trinity a good run, losing 39-28 to them. So, just because they beat St. X (who, along with Trinity this year, is down compared to normal standards) doesn't mean they are the best.
Highlands beat a very good University Christian, FL team 47-14, an injured but still tough Cov Cath team, and they still have a Cincinnati Elder team that is 6-2 at this point of the season to play, and they beat solid teams in John Hardin and Campbell County.
You claim that I am the one making an argument based on assumptions, but the schedules look about equal to me. BG may not have the same players now that they did in the 2000s, but the fact is that they have proven time and again that they don't just lose the big one against a tough opponent such as Highlands or Cov Cath, they get blown out. The teams they have now don't look any better or worse than their previous teams. It's one thing to have a great group of players, and another to have a great program. WKY football (other than Mayfield) is undisciplined. Now that Highlands, Cov Cath, and JC have moved on to stiffer competition, BG is the best of the rest. Now we can suddenly crown them as the best team in the state. LOL. That is hogwash.

Actually,
a) Trinity has next week as a BYE and play Moeller in two weeks @ Trinity.
b) Trinity only has 9 regular season games so with a loss to Moeller, they would be 4-5 after the regular season.

Diogenes Wrote:Bowling Green and Male seems a good match. Or BG and Scott County. Let us see what HHS does vs Elder before we anoint them.
Since when has Elder changed sides of the Ohio River? I thought we were talking KY football. Last time I checked, Elder was in Ohio playing in what the Ohio posters and MaxPreps call the toughest conference in US High School football. There are not many KY teams, four to be exact (St. X, CovCath, Trinity and Highlands) that will schedule games with the GCL-S, let alone compete with them. Elder is 6-2 this year. Their two losses were at Lakewood, Ohio, St. Edward (6-0 with a game today against St. Ignatius) and at home to Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller (8-0). Elder is no slouch and will be a very formidable opponent for Highlands in "The Pit."
It appears that Highlands' only incentive to win the Elder game is pride and the desire to complete the season with an unblemished season, while Elder is fighting to a home game in the OHSAA playoffs. On the Highlands side, Highlands has won their district and will have at least two home games (provided they win the first) in the playoffs. Right now Elder is in 8th place in the Harbin Ratings with the top eight playing home games in round one of the playoffs. A win over a 8-0 Highlands team would help solidify that ranking or even help them improve their standing in the Harbins. Elder also plays for pride on several levels that many in KY would not understand.
Don't sell Highlands short, the Birds could win at Elder or they may lose to Elder. Either way, it will be one tough game for both teams.

Male's students lined the east end zone late in the fourth quarter, then rushed the field after Davis Mattingly knelt one final time with the seconds ticking off the clock in the Bulldogs' 24-14 victory over Trinity on Friday night.
When you haven't beaten a rival school in nearly 13 years, it's OK to be a little premature with the celebration.
"I've been waiting for two years to beat (Saint) X and Trinity," said Mattingly, the junior quarterback. "It's great. We got some great support. It's fun to be the talk of the school."
That talk will surely continue with Male facing arch*rival Manual next week with a chance to wrap up the District 4 title in Class 6-A. The Bulldogs (8-0, 2-0) found ways to capitalize on Trinity miscues, and the Shamrocks (4-4, 2-1) never recovered.
Male used its ground game early to take a 14-point lead, then used Mattingly's arm to keep the Rocks at bay.
It started on the game's first series, a nine-play, 80-yard drive. The Bulldogs ran on the last seven plays, culminated by a 7-yard touchdown run by Tyrone Wilkerson.
After Manual burned his secondary for 417 passing yards last week, Trinity coach Bob Beatty decided to only keep six defenders in the box.
"They were good enough to take care of the ball," Beatty said. "They took advantage of that, and we didn't handle it very well."
Trinity had a chance to score in the second quarter, but a 14-play, 67-yard drive ended with Andrew Deye missing a 29-yard field goal attempt. Two plays later, Ellis Cain (21 carries, 160 yards) swept left for 71 yards and made it 14-0.
Male also took advantage of a Trinity penalty late in the first half. A defensive pass interference call in the end zone put the ball at the Rocks' 16, where Caleb Bayse hit a 33-yard field goal with 2.6 seconds left for a 17-7 lead Bulldogs lead.
Male took advantage of another Trinity when it recovered Donald Brooks' fumble at the Rocks' 22 on the second play of the half. Three plays later, Mattingly hit Keion Wakefield for a 16-yard touchdown and a 17-point lead.
"That was a critical series," Male coach Chris Wolfe said. "Some people think the series at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second are the most important of the game. We had to get points there. You have to convert off turnovers."
Mattingly said Wakefield called for an audible on the play as he was lined up against a cornerback without a safety backing him up. Mattingly threw for the far corner and hit the sophomore in stride.
"I saw him beat the guy and (Wakefield) just made the play," Mattingly said.
While Male made plays, Trinity didn't. Quarterback Reggie Bonnafon struggled all night, completing just 12 of 33 pass attempts for 109 yards and a touchdown while running 14 times for 72 yards and another score. He had at least five passes dropped, but also overthrew a few receivers.
The victory is Male's first over Trinity since it won the 2000 Class 4-A championship at old Cardinals Stadium on Dec. 2, 2000. It also marked the first time a Jefferson County Public School beat the Shamrocks since Seneca on Sept. 19, 2003.
Not that any of that mattered to Beatty:
"The bottom line is, they were the better football team tonight."
