What are the 3 best rivalries in Kentucky high football.
#1
Thoughts ?
#2
Belfry----- pikeville
Johnson central ----Ashland
Betsy layne --- prestonburg

In the old days
Johnson central --- paintsville
Prestonburg ---- belfry
Hazard--- perry county central
#3
In the east a new rivalry will be Belfry,JC,and HC
#4
Trinity and St. Xavier

Fort Thomas and CovCath

?
#5
Trinity-X
JC-Belfry
Wideright and Gut lol!!
#6
Trinity St X has to be the biggest in the state right? I was told when Trinity built their complex they made the workers tear down the bleachers and rebuild them because the support beams made an X. They had to re engineer them so that they were no X's anywhere in the stadium. Thats pretty cool if true.
Kind of like the Yankees tearing up the concert to make sure they got the red sox jersey out of it while the new Yankee Stadium was being built.
#7
Boyle County/Lexington Catholic

Gotta give 4.

X vs T
CovCath vs Highlands
Johnson Central vs Ashland
Raceland vs Fairview

Always playoff atmosphere games. Many times the teams meet once in regular season match ups, then again in the playoffs. Most of the regular season matchups decide who goes on the road and who gets homefield through the playoffs. Excluding CC and Higlands, btw who all is in Highlands district?
#9
Don't forget Paducah Tilghman vs Mayfield!!
#10
Don't forget PT vs Mayfield. We have played 100 games. PT has a 2 game lead on us. There have been 10 ties. The longest streak of wins for one team is 8 games. Mayfield currently holds that streak after winning this year.

4a District 7
Highlands (8-0)
Cov Cath (6-2)
Holmes (5-3)
Harrison County (3-5)
Pendleton (2-7)

If you have to move and play in a venue like Papa John's Stadium to hold more than 20,000 people/ fans.... No brainer Saint Xavier vs Trinity. Bar non, the best rivalry in the state, regardless if the teams are down or not as powerful in previous years. Everyone else is 2nd.

Hey how about this. Even though it's not as big or historical but how about Lexington Lafayatte vs Henry Clay? Supposively they have been playing every year since the 50's. The 2 oldest school in Fayette County.
#16
I would say Breathitt and Belfry. Always a game everyone wants to see.

It may not be top 3 and I think it is overlooked because it has been one sided the last 5 years. But Ashland Blazer / Russell is one of the most heated rivalries around. Even the freshman game (Kiwanis Bowl) is a big deal every year.
#19
Don't forget Letcher Co Central vs Harlan Co...

My Priorities are:
1)God
2)Family
3)Cougar Athletics!

Everything else doesn't matter![/COLOR]

Male-Manuel is a great tradition. My roommate in college went to Male and I went to the Male-Manuel game twice. I would also agree that Mayfield-PT is one of the oldest traditional rivalries in the state.

You need too win a few before it can be a rivalry again!! We have been winning them all lately and usually not even close!! Ashland J.C is a great recent one but I think the Belfry and Ashland game was heading toward one also!!
#22
Rockcastle County/Bell County was good when they were in the same district.
I would say
1). St X./Trinity
2). Higland/Cov Cath
3.) Boyle/Danville

Pendleton is not in the district. They dropped out of district play after the 2012 season.

You need to look back and see who has beaten the Tomkittens more than anybody but Ironton over the last 50 years.

Last 5 years were all Blazer. That time is past and you know it. U

1. Bell County vs Corbin
2. Bell County vs Middlesboro
#26
Hazard vs Perry Central.. I believe these two get to play each other next year or so ive heard.
#27
Not the biggest rivalry but people in both counties know that the Powell Co. Vs Estill Co. Rivalry is crazy, football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, golf, cheerleading, band, you get the point, almost every year in football/basketball theres a fight between players or fans, pure hatered

Pendleton is no longer in the district. They went with a non-district schedule starting this season.

Any inter county games with two good programs is always a good rivalry.
Like your Boyle/Danvilles, etc.
