Pikeville @ Raceland 11/22 Region Championship
#31
Blaze, imo, the mentalty of this Raceland team is different than that of the other "best teams" Raceland has had. This team seems more focused than the other teams in the past. I think you can credit the Tomcats and the Bulldogs for that. Especially Lawrence Co. While I dont agree with NoPicks, that Beech will rush for 200+, he will be a deciding factor in the game. But, when facing a team that is as offensively explosive as Pikeville is, it takes a tough, hard nosed, consistent, run game. Because of this, I expect a big game out of Snider. He is more of a preence between the tackles. Pikeville has the speed and athletisicm to contain the edge, which is what they did last year. Havig a Kane Snider in OTclast year would have probably won the game for the Rams.

I think you will see new wrinkles in the offense as well. More of Beech/Messer in the pistol and wildcat. If that is your read option, as a defense who do you key on? Thats a hard combination to handle.

Idk if any of our DBs have the speed to play bump and run on Estep. He gets alot of his yards after the catch. Last year he burnt us on a screen for about 70 yds to tie the game up. The key containing him will be getting him on first contact. If Raceland takes away the pass, they will win the game.

Orange Blaze Wrote:I have watched over 20 years worth of Raceland Football and traditionally Raceland has never been able to win the big games. I hope this week changes that trend and we can get past the regional championship hump. I have seen very good teams trip up and fall apart in this game (06 & 08 come to mind) and I hope this team doesn't do the same. Raceland has been playing well since they beat Fairview a few weeks ago and they are going to be tough to beat at home.

If you would have asked me about this game a month ago I would have picked Pikeville because Raceland wasn't very good a month ago and they weren't clicking like they are now. This team also had a level of focus that they did not have earlier in the year and I think that is what makes them dangerous right now. I am going to make a crazy prediction but I see Raceland winning this game by at least two touchdowns.

The 2006 team didn't "fall apart".. they ran into a dang good Newport Central Catholic team that ended up winning the state championship. Raceland lead 21-14 at half time and NCC's depth and talent took over in the second half. The Rams were really good in 06' but a win over NCC still would have been a huge upset. 2008, may be a different story, I felt like the Rams were the better team vs LCA and let that one slip through their fingers.

Going to be a close game..

Raceland 24
Pikeville 22

I think if the Ams don't turn the ball over they win going away.

Perhaps I should have used better wording in my post. That NCC team was very good and they made the necessary halftime adjustments in that game to beat Raceland. I agree that team had a lot of depth and they took advantage of a few mistakes in that game that led them to the win. If I'm not mistaken, I believe NCC blew Mayfield out in the championship game that year.

NoPicks Wrote:Russell ran for over 350 yards against Pikeville....If Russell ran for 350 against them, Raceland runs for 11 billion. Seriously though, PVille hasn't stopped anybody all year and Raceland is going to be the best offense they have seen all season. Pikeville has some playmakers but cannot hang with the Rams up front, Racelands line is too big and strong. Beach runs for another 200+, Rams get over the hump, and it's celebration time in Ramland.

Raceland 45
Pikeville 20

I wouldn't agree that it will be the best offense they've face all year because hazard and belfry have good offenses when clicking... But I will say that Raceland will have more than 2 play makers in the passing game unlike hazard... Hazard has some fine athletes but only 1 playmaker is Hudson and Jones if you put him in there at wide out or pass out of the backfield..

I think Beach could do it, but I highly doubt that's in the game plan. As long as the DB's & LBers aren't out of position then they won't have to worry about another 70 yard TD off of a bubble screen.
Raceland's staff will have a good game plan come Friday.

You also picked Russell over Pikeville.

Raceland hasn't faced a team like Pikeville that can run and pass very well. Heck have they even played a team that can throw at all? Don't know why Raceland is suddenly world beaters. There is nothing they have done this year that would lead me to believe they are better than Pikeville. They better be a whole lot better than they were the last two years in the playoffs. And this 2 TD or win going away junk is comical. Pikeville will be successful running the ball and throwing the ball against Raceland, you can take that to the bank.

Already seeing a lot of stuff in this thread that doesn't make any sense to me. You do remember that Hall of Pikeville scored virtually untouched on Pikeville's first play of OT don't you?

Paintsville put 20 on Pikeville. I would think the RAMS would put maybe at least. One Moe point then that!!
Rams will score a few more then that! Lol

Pikeville has a very explosive offense. But their defense is not very good. The Ams have both.

So you were confused about that game, kinda like you are now.

I must have clicked the wrong button on my phone. But there was my prediction.

I knew Russell would have a hard time containing Pikeville which they did. I also thought Russell would move the ball against Pikeville. Which they did.

Im not picking on them. I just think Wasteland is better.

Lol. No I wasn't confused. Just the joys of typing or picking on a smartphone.

^You are certainly entitled to your opinion. Most people thought Raceland was better the last two years in the playoffs too, and Pikeville knocked them out. Personally I wouldn't even consider trading Hall, Estep and Charles for Beach, Messer and Elkins. And I wouldn't trade the rest of Pikeville's team for the rest of Raceland's team either. I wouldn't be totally shocked if Raceland were to win, but I expect Pikeville to bring home the hardware.

Nobody on Pikeville's team is in the same league as Beach or Messer. Estep and Hall are really good players, not taking anything away from them bc they are legit playmakers.. But Beach is in a class of his own. Somebody will offer him a D1 or 1AA scholly, Estep. And Hall are NAIA or D-3 at best.

LOL you have a bright future in stand-up comedy!

Done talking about this already.. Let the game do the talking. Best of luck to both teams. Final thoughts.... If Raceland brings their A game, Pikeville is in for a long night at Ram Stadium. Rams will be prepared and focused, take that to the bank.
#59
Ok, like I said, let the game do the talking.. You just let me know afterwards if you would still buy tickets to my comedy show. Have a good week everyone. Go Rams!

One last note, I have heard universal praise for the food at Raceland. So instead of blowing a bundle at one of the usual crappy chain restaurants, I am going to show up at Raceland very hungry. And I can eat a whole bunch haha. So what do I need to make sure I get at the concessions?
