Pikeville @ Raceland 11/22 Region Championship
NoPicks Wrote:Heard from a few reliable sources that #22 and #45 are done for the remainder of the season.. If this is true, these two being out are a big loss for Pikeville. Any truth to this?

Can't officially speak for the condition of these two, but i can tell you what i've been told. Austin Black COULD suit up Friday. As far as Daric Pugh, he's out for the season with an injury he sustained earlier in the yr. However, make no mistake, these two have capable backups. No, they don't have the experience of Black and Pugh, but they are doing a fine job so far.

Sorry to hear about both.. Pugh will be back next year but black wont.. I think Black will dress but playing him will be up to the coaches..
Scotty_Bronson Wrote:Dont be too hard on him Five-O. He is another Wbirg fan who live in their diluted world of greatness. The two good teams they played this year, beat them easily. I would love to see them get over the hump though, finally winning a regional title and beat Hazard. Problem with that is, Hazard had 0 offense last year after Johnson went down. Only scored 6 pts and managed to win. They have almost the same defense and a better offense this year. Williamsburg's high powered offense always seems to come up short in the redzone in big games.

:dudecomeon: Willburg93 is not a Williamsburg fan look on his post Scotty :HitWall: :HitWall: :HitWall:
Hate to hear of any kid be injured and out ror the season. I onow howhard they work in the offseason. But its part of the game. At the 1A level, most teams have atleast some competitive depth if they make it to the region championship. Pikeville has a great coaching staff and I am sure that theyhave the replacement players coached up to be all that they can. Lord is it Friday yet?

The post I read made him seem that way. If he's not my appologies to him. Wouldhate to lump him in with a bunch of Crow Eaters such as yourself 64. All in good fun my friend. Right now my mind is on pikeville. Both of our teams need to win before or forum of "The battle of the orange and black" can commense.

So why would it be up to coaches if Black is out? Is he injured or have they just been resting him for this game?
Pugh is definitely out and has been for a while. He is a loss, but happened early enough to where they've been able to plan without him. Black, I'm not sure about. I know he's been banged up, but I think most teams have banged up players across the board at this time of year. Might be good that Pikeville had two relatively easy games to mostly play jv guys and rest up the starters. Will be a real battle, those who are picking a blowout one way or the other need to chill.
^wouldnt suprise me

No one said it is "up to the Coaches."From what i understand, he has had a nagging injury through part of the season. As i understand it , he has been cleared to play Friday. As it stands at this moment....i don't know.
Sounds to me like the loss of Black(if he doesnt play), could be rough on Pikeville. Sounds like he is a big part of their physicality defensively. Does Hall Play defense? Beech played alot more defense last year, but with the emergance of Josh Young at corner, he hasnt had to play as much this year. I cant remember if I saw Hall on the defensive side or not.
From what I am hearing Black is good to go and will be playing.

For those who don't think Pikeville will put the points on the board, well you will see Friday. The defense may not make many stops, but the Panthers will light up the scoreboard. This team is capable of scoring on offense, defense, and special teams. I look for a high scoring game with the Panthers advancing.

Pikeville 42
Raceland 36

Good luck Panthers!!!!
Is Russell a solid team this year? If Pikeville can't stop Russell how in the world are they going to stop Raceland.
P'ville 34
Raceland 24, welcome panther fans and Fairview Sparrows to Williamsburg !!!! Mayfield WINS it all though !!!!!!
If Pikeville scores 42, they will have to score of special teams ad/or defense. Their offense is potent, but outside of Belfrey, I dont think thy have faced a defense as good as Raceland's this year. But, I also know Raceland hasnt faced an offense as balanced as Pikeville's. This will indeed be a great game.
It's a game of matchups really. Who gaurds Estep? Beech? Messer? If Raceland runs their Vear/Pistol package, do you key on Messer, Beech, or Snider/Christian? Raceland's linmean are big strong and agile, but are they agile enough to handle Pikeville's atheletic line, that imo will be shooting gaps or atleast making that attempt. Can Pikeville's atheletic line handle the rush off the edges from Risner and Boggs? Can their interior oline handle the bulk/speed of Wallace?

Another factor in this game should be blitz reads. Any time you face an oline thats quite a bt bigger than you, you're going to try to utilize your speed. I expect to see some interesting stunts from Pikeville's LBs/DE. How well Raceland's RB pick up the free runner will be a factor. Snyder and Walker are great blockers out of the backfield, there is so much to this game. Its going to be a chess match.

Look at the yardage decent teams have run for against Raceland. I will post them later. Ashland, Lawrence Co., Fairview - 3 teams that don't/can't pass well, put up huge rushing numbers. Coal Grove, 5-5 and ranked 370 something in Ohio, rushed for 282 on Raceland I believe. Again, Pikeville will have plenty of success running and passing on the Raceland defense.

I will post those rushing #s later

I would take Pburg's defense over Raceland

I still stand my prediction that there will be some scoreboard sizzling going on by both sides.

I should have elaborated a bit more. I am refering to Raceland as of week 5. More than anything, their redzone defense. Fairview, Paintsville, and Ironton all struggled in the redzone against Raceland. Im not saying Raceland is an impenatrable force, saying that, especially at home, they dont give up many points. Theyhave given up some yards, but never really broke, between the 20s/30s people have moved the ball, but cant get past them in the endzone.

Fairview put up over 250(150 less than their 400 avg), Ashland put up over 200(Baker held to 61), Lawrence put up some rushing yes to(middle of the defense, Isaac Wallace was out and made a big difference), Coal Grove was probably the roughest game of the season, shoukd have actually lost that game. So no, if u ask me if Raceland plays shutdown defense, no, but they dont give up many big plays and are tough in the redzone.
Scotty, Fairview 245 yards on 35 carries. 7 yards/carry with no passing attack so you can stack the box. This makes Pikeville fans' mouths water. Also look at all the yards Paintsville got with no Daniel, no Phelps, no #3, no telling who else was out. I think the smart Raceland fans are doing a rain dance right now hehe.
And neither team managed to score more than 14 pts. Raceland didnt stack the box, either. Didnt have to.
Last time Pikeville had the ball in the red zone vs. Raceland - OT last year:

Plays - 1
TDs - 1
Yards - 10
Tackles by Raceland - 0
*and it was right up the gut through that verrry highly praised Raceland D-line...

hehe...just messin with ya Scotty, will be a great game. BTW no one has told me what is the best food at the Raceland concessions.
Jetpilot last time i was there i had a funnel cake A+ and polish dog with onions peppers and kraut A+ also they used to have the best lemonade ever but sadly didn hav it last time. But those are my choices
^Thanks Mastadon89 I am going to show up hungry haha...

Wallace and Beach did not play the Lawrence County game either. Top running back could have kept us on offense longer and less time for LC to have the ball. Just an opinion.

Agreed Blackcat Fan. While Hall & Estep are considered the bread & butter when it comes to scoring for this team, too many people over look others that can be in the endzone quickly on either side of the ball. Pikeville wins this game and advances!

Like salt on an open wound. Do you have no soul?lol. You all won that game the moment estep tied the game up on that screen. This years squad hasyet to ever fold like that.

As for the food. Its hard to go wrong. The Polish Sausage is really good, burgers are good(best if u get one before half time) but at a big game w a big crowd they shoukd be pretty fresh. Lemonaide is good...the Hot Chocolate used to taste like someone melted a brown crayon in some hot water lol. But whoever is doing it now is doing a great job. The food at the stadium is some of the best in the area. Best bet is going to the home side for the grill items. If u pass by the funnel cake stand, look for a big fat guy in a brown Corona Extra hat and a Raceland pullover. I would look foward to meeting some of you guys.

I will say this. These two teams have some of the best traveling fan bases in the state. This has become an incredible but HEALTHY and RESPECTFUL rivalry. Whoever wins this ball game, Raceland(cough), Raceland(cough), i know will have the support of both fan bases the rest of the post season. Btw, let me personally thank the Pikeville Panthers for the whipping they administered to the Evils over their from Russell.
Btw i will be facing north in the south endzone.
Totally uncalled for SB. Lol

Damnit. Russell just fumbled again.
