Black Bear running back, Carson Whitehead commits to the University of Kentucky today.

Good luck to him, and I hope he scores a million!!! Such a great kid!!
#2
Congrats Carson & good luck to you. I loved watching this kid play.
#3
Does anyone know if he was recruited there to play fullback or linebacker. Not that it matters he will be able to play either.Heck of an athlete.Glad to see him get to that next level.

Not sure if it means anything but Neal Brown UKs OC was the one who recruited him.

Good to see another mountain player headed to Lexington. He was a heck of a high school player. Congrats!
#6
I know he is a preferred walk-on but this is the type of hard nosed kid that I could see earning a scholarship one day. I see him being a Special Teams monster. That's a very good thing... the kind of kid who will lay people out on both sides of the ball and play every play like it's his last.
#7
That's exactly right. He'll be a thumper..
#8
Congrats to Whitehead. I agree with EKUAlum about the special teams aspect. The main thing is getting on the field and making the travel squad. When you play special teams and begin to make plays, you get noticed and opportunities. Those opportunities could turn in to a scholarship. Congrats again.

Carson is not only a great athlete, but a fantastic kid. I helped coach him when he was in middle school. He was the type of kid who was very quiet, but would punish you on the football field. Congrats to him!

Congrats form bell county.
#11
Congrats to a great young man and a great leader, not only a great athlete and young man but a great student. He has made all HC fans proud.
#13
Congrats big guy!!! Great, hard working kid on and off the field. Carson is the type kid that will make it in life. I see him eventually earning a scholarship some day. We are so proud of you Carson. If I am not mistaken Carson is the 1st Division I signee from Harlan County High School. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
#14
Congrats to mr whitehead!!! Stoops and brown have for themselves a very good ball player. I have enjoyed watching him play since he was in middle school what a great player indeed.
#15
Good luck to the kid on the field and in the classroom! Best wishes in all of his future life's endeavors.
#16
Congrats!

I dont believe you could find a better kid to represent Harlan County on and off the field. I am so happy for him and I also believe that with his work ethic he will be a contributor to the Big Blue program. With some additional muscle added to his frame I could see him playing Linebacker or fullback for the Cats and in the years to come earning a scholarship!
#18
I couldn't agree more!! Carson's work ethic will make the difference!
#19
Congrats to Carson. I understand that he is a fine young man.
#20
Congrats to Carson. I could see him becoming a FB for UK in a few years much like the kid from Whitley.
#21
To be honest, id like to see the kid stay on defense and join one hell of a defensive class.
With the Elam kid, Hatcher, and all of those other good defensive recruits, UK might actually have an SEC defense in a couple of years.

Congratulations to Carson who is taking the road less traveled by many these days.

He could have very easily made a commitment to an NAIA or DivIII program and enjoyed early success and made an immediate contribution. However, he chose to challenge himself in a way most athletes in todays era turn away from.

Work ethic, heart, attitude, perseverance, and talent will enable him to endure and capture a scholarship. Wishing nothing but the best for this young man and believing in his abilities and high motor for success!

To me personally, and this not a knock to those who go NAIA, but it just seems like a waste of time. Unless you get a full ride scholarship and get a free degree, there was nothing that drew me to want to go play ball at the NAIA level. You know your not going pro, theres no sense of pride in it for you, and other than eating for free, its really hard to get the grades and play football.
Im glad the kid chose UK. Hes only trying to better himself that way.

That is totally a knock on anybody who plays NAIA and that's exactly what you meant to do. I won't discuss how wrong you are in this thread because this is about Carson.

Congrats to Carson! So good to see hard work pay off and good things happen to good kids. He will continue to make Harlan County proud. I've watched Carson play since he was in the 5th grade and it's just been a blast watching him grow up into such a wonderful young man.

Nope. Its not a knock. Just like I said in my previous post. "This is not a knock".

Ive seen to many kids sign with Cumberland, Gtown, or Union only to quit after the first couple of weeks of school once they realize it sucks. To those who do it, good for them, but to be honest, most don't make it past there first year. Its different when you sign with a division one school.

Agree 100%
I was in that club. It was horrible. I decided to pay and go to Eastern. Not to mention going to Cumberland College (it was still CC when I was in school) sucked, it was even worse playing and trying to keep up with grades when most kids were only going to play for one year and then be done. Just didn't seem worth it to me.
