Whitley County names Jason Chappell Head Coach
pjdoug Wrote:What does the schedule look like?

I have heard that Whitley will play Pike County Central during week zero. This should be a good matchup. Pike Central had some good wins last year. I believe This game will be in Pike County. I have no idea if Whitley picked up another game.

Morgan County. It's on khsaa.org site.
Pike County Central 3A beat Morgan County is regular season 63-29 then first round of the payoffs beat them 75-28. Williamsburg 1A beat Pike County Central 48-26. Morgan County 3A had a record of 4-7. Sounds like two easy winning games.
footballfever Wrote:Seriously, no one thought Corbin had dropped to a new low when they scheduled Trimble Co and Corbin was coming off a pretty good year.
Who should Whitley play. 1st, there is NO guarantee Whitley will beat Morgan at Morgan. 2nd, name 1 other game on schedule you would consider Whitley a favorite to win. 3rd Whitley was 1-10, dressed 36 players last game of year and lost 10 seniors. 4th, 10 games is better than 9.
One thing I don't like is 3 home games and 7 away.
Actually the reason for Corbin scheduling Trimble Co. was that a member of one of Corbin's state championships team had relocated to Trimble Co. and ended up being successful there. He owns several businesses and I guess for some there he is a big deal. He ask Corbin to play Trimble and I was told he made a contribution to the football program for agreeing to the game.

I just don't see adding Morgan Co away, Pike Co Central away to
Madison Southern
Bell Co away
Harlan Co away
Knox Central
Clay Co away
Rockcastle away
Letcher Co away
Perry Central
makes this an easy schedule.

They only have 3 home games, plus Morgan Co. and Pike Central are long road trips, not really an easy schedule, especially for a first year coach taking over a 1-9 team.

They will take a big financial loss next year on football. With the two buy-outs, the lost bowl game pay out and losing a home game, how much total revenue will they lose because of the buy-outs?

I really believe if they could reverse everything that has happen and start over they would. The schedule want get any better next year with the rest of the schedule being on the last year of a two year contract. I know Knox is trying to find some passing teams to play to help them advance in the playoffs.
Colonels will win 3 to 5 games next year. It will be the second year before we know how well Chappell is progressing. I do not expect an immediate turn around but Whitley should move forward next year. Coach Black would have won 3 to 5 also. They did not lose a lot and had some solid kids. How well the juniors and sophomores step up will determine how well this team does.

It would not surprise me a bit if Whitley gets to 7 or 8 wins. Offensively Whitley was ok last year. The defense was really hurt due to injuries.
Madison Southern and Harlan County are probably only games out of reach. Knox and Bell will be very tough. Pike Central returns a lot from a good team. Clay, Rock, Letcher and Perry should be very competitive games. If Morgan is not a win it will be a very long year.

I agree. Its kind of the exact opposite of what we were hearing last year. With the toughest schedule around, we were "making excuses", now that a new coach comes in and eases up the schedule, its "too easy".

I, like you don't like how were only getting 3 home games, but its only for a year. I also agree that this schedule will really challenge this team. If Chappell does well and gets the kids out, theres not reason why he couldn't have a winning season.

Looking at the schedule realistically, I see it like this just going off of what we currently know.
Madison Southern-Loss. We aint stopping Harris at the beginning of the year.
Bell County- Most likely loss, but Bell isn't great. There beatable. Almost did last year with 20 kids and the whole backfield hurt.
Harlan County- Loss
Knox Central- Most likely loss.
Clay- Winnable
Rock- Winnable
Letcher- Winnable
Perry- Winnable
Morgan County- win
PCC- Win

Just the way I see it.
I got to agree with E's Army. 5-5 or 6-4 wouldn't surprise me.

Ive stated it time and time again.
To be successful, he has to get the numbers up dramatically, and improve line play.
Black got caught in a bad situation with injuries last year, but the numbers and lines play were his biggest downfall.
Whitley will do fine and I think the new coach will do fine. I would say to all WC fans.. the new coach and WC program needs your support now more than ever, Get behind him win or lose and you will recover and it will surprise you how much good effort, good plays, close games and big wins will mean to your school, your team, and most of all your future
Full deck Wrote:Is whitley going to sched in the future

Berea
Lynn Camp
Harlan City
Jellico
McCreary
Phelps
Knott
Jackson Co (may be too good)

All I ever hear is about how teams should play hard sched to get ready for playoffs and dist. Well this goes against what people always said about Whitley.

Whitley is a team with 20 players....
Whitley plays enough talented teams. They had a schedule last year that was brutal and what did it get them. 1-9. They need confidence and growth as a program. This is another step in right direction.
Whitley has always played a terrific schedule. In fact, it has been too difficult at times. It's Chappell's program, give him the chance to do it his way, including scheduling. You never know, it just might work. If it doesn't, what's the worst that can happen, 1-9 again, which ain't gonna happen.
I think this was a good move. If they could have played Morgan Co. game one would have been much better. I don't see people going crazy when Alabama , Flordia and even Kentucky play a game that they are suppose to win.
I have already been impressed with Chappell, it is obvious that the program needed a new direction they are down and the only way up is to learn these kids how to win, and the schedule had to change to accomplish this. That is a step in the right direction, they still have a good schedule. Finish above 500% this year and get your numbers up, let the kids enjoy it , get in the elementary and middle schools and play that Uncle Sam role by telling them you want and need them. After achieving stability and interest in the fan base and community the program will move forward. The process should take about 3 years then your program will be ready to upgrade the completion. In all honesty if Campbell made out these schedules I wonder if he wanted success.

I am sure it will work, making a easy schedule leads to easy wins. Lets just hope he doesn't have the injuries like last year.

Opening with pike county central is not a easy game just saying they was the most improved 3a school in the state last year 64SUR :HitWall:
Whitley tried to buy Betsy Layne out of one of their games to play them.

For us that don't know. Who on this easy schedule would you consider easy?
pjdoug we miss you. Confusednicker:
why play besty Layne they should be playing a little bit better than that if you going to play 5A football.
Again can someone post their schedule. Half the teams talking on here would not want it. They have one team that should be a win, Morgan Co. The rest are all EXCELLENT OPPONENTS. The rest of your teams play their schedule and get back to us. I liked Chappell when he was here and I think he will do a great job. Let him work and then see if you or him made the right call.
