Talked to a friend of mine yesterday who's Uncle had recently talked to Coach Love. He told me Coach is very excited for the season to start and says they are loaded. I also have put up a few new pictures of the stadium in my album.

When is Ashland's first home game? Will they be done on time? It looks like their a long way from being ready for games.

It will be done enough to play but will be a few years before everything gets done lights, field, etc. They just got the bid for locker rooms yesterday and will have the shell done before season starts. 2 block locker rooms with bathrooms and concessions is 780,000! They are out of time and money. First home game is Aug. 22 Newport Central Catholic!!!

It is all shaping up nicely. Those in charge and those doing the work have done a good job. No one likes to see old structures destroyed but it apparently was necessary.

I agree. In the words of one of my favorite musicians growing up, Jim Croce, there are several things you don't do and I'll add one.
"You don't tug on superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off that old lone ranger
You don't mess with tradition
And you don't mess around with Jim."
Hate to see Putnam change but it was tastefully done.

Personally, I liked the leaving of the concrete steps. Idc if they take the entire field apart snd build a new one somewhere else, if those steps, the steps that i have watched 20 years(first Ashland game I saw was when I was 5), ive watched 20 senior classes go down those steps. Even as a Raceland guy, Ive never had anything but respect for the Tomcats. If those steps are ever torn down, I'll be the first one to throw a fit. No matter what they do, as long as they leave that one simple gesture of respect for the past, Im good.

Scotty hit on it a little. Walking through the crowd, the concrete Horse Shoe, the location of the band and students have all been corner stones to a great atmosphere since I have been going to games at Putnam starting in the mid-80's. If you are looking for me to say the recent success of the Ashland program is on par with a Highlands, Mayfield, Newport Central Catholic, Trinity, etc. then you took it the wrong way. I was strictly referring to in game traditions and stadium design is all.

The aluminum is the best you can get and on visitors side you can't really tell that it's new looks almost identical to old. Harry Ashland has a rich history in all sports not just Football and even though we haven't had a Title since 90 we have tradition!!! Nothing like seeing the football team enter the front of the stadium and head down the stairs to the field! One of the best entrances in all of high school football!!

Good clarification. Putnam Stadium had a lot of tradition and its fine reputation was well earned. I felt sure that you were referring to the stadium rather than the modern history of the school. Thank you.

All that tells me is that they have been playing football and basketball for many, many years and have played a goodly number of games each year. Nearly all of Ashland's real success was in a long ago era. It is kind of like Army and Navy in college football and CCNY and Niagara in college basketball. The "glory years" were real but in a different age. But, good memories of better times are not a negative. It can be helpful to be able to say, "Remember when ...".
