Just heard all be it third party. That it had nothing to do with coaching, more to do with disagreements with some board members that were not happy with him. Again the info. came from some third party people that supposedly had talked with some administration people.

With the new class system coming up, not to mention the wrestling team has a great shot at winning a state title as well..... I think Matney will be around for a while.

Winning the 4A state football title and winning the State wrestling title in the same season...... Johnsonville might re-name some local landmarks or name a street after him

You are correct. This freshman squad is good..... They have Two middle school state championships on their resume'.

The middle school has sent some serious talent to the high school. I hate to say this, but it's a shame that the talent sent from the middle school has just started being harnessed over the past 6-7 seasons at JC. Coach Musick, Coach Humphries and Coach Ross just couldn't get the players out like Matney has. This freshman class has the potential to be special. JC has a great senior class this season. I'm pretty sure they are going to lead this freshman class the right way. With the new realignment next season and with the players we already have... the next few seasons at JC could be epic..... they may even have to get the players and coaches ring sizes.

Coach Matney is a master at placing players at the position that best improves the team. IMO his eye for talent and his talent for positioning his players is the #1 reason he has turned JC into winner. I don't think any other Coach in JC's football history plays the undersized Brad Auxier at LB. There're several other examples I could use to make this point. I can't count the number of times I have seen JC coaches "fall in love" with a player that was simply not very talented and play this player over a more talented kid. This factor is the #1 reason more kids come out and play for Matney. I also think Matney has been a positive example to the coaches of other sports at JC. I know you know a lot about the history of all sports at JC. JC has won more regional titles in all sports during the 10 years period Matney has been the head football coach as it had the previous 35 years. Some people may not agree with me on that statement but IMO it is nothing but the truth. Young coaches need a winning example to follow. Wasn't it Vince Lombardi that said " winning is contagious" Jim Matney is a winner!

The eagles looked Good Friday night. Really impressed the 8th grade vs Fr. 8th held their own. I know a few fr did not play and a couple Fr did not come out this season but still a good showing for the. 8th. Still concerned we centrals passing game. Each year I think/hear that the ole ball coach going to add more passing offense. Single passing routes is not going to do it. It's okay to 95% run 5% pass here in the mountains but playoff time others teams better coaching put 10 in the box can shut down the run. Just saying

Still nothing constructive to say about your football program or football in general? Well lets put this to rest and just say that good luck this season. Stay healthy and hope they come out victorious in the 2nd round. Don't worry though, come next season when FT Highlands, Lex Cath, Boyle Co, Cov Cath moves on... You will definitely be the big dog in 4A:1:......that is if you can get by John Hardin, Collins, Warren Central. BTW yes Cincy, Moeller and Lincoln. Not sure what your referring to as far as Coldstream. I asked peps here at work whatever that means. All are shaking heads. Oh and one is from your area of Paintsville. And what about Creek? They are not a team that I follow. So they lost to JC and JC turned around and lost the next day. WOW not like you advance futher. That's like you winning in the 2nd round of FB, then loose in the next round.
