#6 Murray @ #1 Mayfield 10/02

Thoughts and Predictions.

Mayfield by 20

Gonna be a fun one. I think it could be tough for us with Bright out. I still wouldn't expect the Tigers to come in as the favorite. I will say we can't drop the ball as much as we did against Corbin. That means we don't need rain.

64, I'm hoping we get to use my favorite plays for the last series of the game. You know, the V formation.

They need to put two running backs in the backfield and make it a staple with the talent.. keep teams guessing plus give much needed rest in rotation.. all that mixed with playaction.. could really be deadly..

Wishbone comes to mind.. "v" lol. Old school bread an butter.. would deff help add a since of misdirection

Absolutely that what I would do Bright and Tyler in the backfield. :truestory:

How can there be 16 posts in a Murray - Mayfield prediction thread without someone mentioning Yella Tigers.

I look for Murray to play a very similar game to what Corbin played.. They will try and eat as much clock as possible on every possession and keep the Cards offense off the field as much as possible. The difference is, Murray has a little more athleticism and playmakers than Corbin. Mayfield's D will really have to step up and put Murray behind the chains and force several 3 and outs. If the Tigers can pick up 2 or 3 1st downs a series, even if it doesn't result in points, they could eat up half a quarter per series, which doesn't leave the Card offense much time to score. I think, for that reason, it'll be a faitly low scoring game. I expect Murray to have a few successful series and then a few that Mayfield's D forces a 3 and out.. I think Mayfield will make a couple of more big plays in this one and squeak out a win, somewhere in the 24-14 range..

I wouldnt be surprised to see bright try to go Friday night tapped up and padded to the hilt..
#20
Won't happen his arm still pretty bad .. he still can't bend it well enough, just won't happen.. maybe another 3 - 4 weeks at best..
#21
We won't need him as long as we have good play calling an not that run it up the middle bs, at a wall ....:HitWall:
#22
Play calling didn't drop those balls last week. The first pass that Caldwell dropped was set up perfectly and was most likely a touchdown. The second one he dropped was a first down to keep the drive going on a 3rd and long. Trez fumbled the ball away on a drive or two where we were moving the ball well. In watching the film, it is clear that the touchdown pass to Kennemore should have stood. There was no hold, it's on film folks.

Mayfield by 2 TD's
#24
Ya I wasn't exactly referencing last week's game.. just calling it like I see it on Joe's normal play calling .. you have to agree.. he gets on these run it up the middle spurtz an it's like he can't see its not working so he continues running it up the middle..was simply saying I hope he does not revert back to do in his old school tactics... but yes I agree to wat u said
#25
Every time he gets conservative like that, I think back to the Danville game of 2001. We coulda won the big one back to back years.
#26
I would think Joe knows Football, run to pass, pass to run always the Question. Funny story old coach who always seemed to lose said to all the Coaches and Quartetbacks in the stands if they would just do what I tell them everything would be good. What's that coach I tell them to just win.
#27
Joe cant help it run up the middle is inherited he just cant resist off tackle when everyone knows its coming his only flaw as coach i can see.
#28
He has won a lot of ball games and brought home several big trophies. Just think what Mayfield could do if one of you guys were to take over.

Great point E. Probably one of the best things you have ever posted. Our fans get wayyyy to spoiled. The other night in the win against Corbin there was a group setting in front of my wife completely bashing our boys. They did that for the OT loss to McCracken as well. They are so accustomed to winning that we become terrible if anyone gives us a remotely close game. They don't seem to see the effort our half pint sized boys give them every week or the brilliant work the coaches do with them to keep them in games. That is a lot of pressure to put on a bunch of young men.

I don't know how many times over the years, I'd be at a game and Mayfield would come out with about 1/2 the team 5-7 and 150 lbs and then their opponent would come out looking like the Dallas Cowboys with size and numbers and I'd think, oh boy, we may be in big trouble tonight, then about 1/2 way thru the 2nd quarter, we're up by 28 and looking to have an early running clock. It really is amazing how much those coaches get out of their kids. Even better, they instill a winning attitude where their kids don't believe they should ever lose, regardless of the opponent. That confidence and consistent execution is really a thing of beauty and fun to watch.
