Here's where I stand on Belfry as of 10/13/15:
Belfry is not a Championship Caliber TEAM right now. They are very talented, they have flashes of brilliance, and they have some tremendous individual talents. They do a lot of things well, but do nothing perfect except maybe kick and punt the football. Every single aspect of Belfry's game right now outside of the two kickers is flawed.
OFFENSE
OL: The Offensive Line is huge, experienced, and at times dominant. They also are good for a missed assignment every possession and at least four costly penalties a game that ruin a scoring chance if not two.
QB: Corbett makes plays when nothing is there. He also has made some tremendous reads on the option. With that said, he is currently a liability every time he pitches the ball and continues to make forced throws with bad footwork. He has to protect the football better.
Backs: Painfully luke warm. They look great at times, but look like they are playing their first game at others.A lot of the fumbled exchanges are not on Corbett, it's on the backs for being lax in giving him a spot to hand it off. The spacing and timing is still flawed as well. Fumbles are now an issue as well finishing the play.
Ends: Belfry is getting nothing out of this unit right now. Downfield blocking has been OK.
DEFENSE
DL: The strength of the team for most of the year, I am still not satisfied and don't think they are playing well enough to compete for a Title. Easily winded and go stretches in the middle of the game where they fade to white noise. To their credit, when Belfry has needed a big play they have made it.. but why not play full throttle all game?
LB: Hot or cold. One play they read it well and disrupt the game, the next play they are out of position and pinned. LB'ers killed us against Cabell Midland and will be severely tested again vs. JC. You have great instincts, trust them.
DB: The weak spot of this team, but closer to being where they need to be than people think. It's all about execution here. The number of times coverage has been great, or the run support sufficient, has far outweighed the number of times it hasn't. With that said, it's never a minor mistake with these guys. It's not getting turned around on a route and giving up a 20 yard completion... it's busting a coverage entirely and giving up an 70 yard TD pass. It's not taking a wrong angle in pursuit and letting someone gain an extra 5 yards for the first down on a run, it's missing a key tackle or over pursuing and letting it turn into a 50 yard gain.
It's not a physical thing that is hurting Belfry right now.. it's 100% mental and execution. Careless fumbles, bad decisions, penalties forcing them to stay behind the sticks, missed blocks letting someone blow up the play, busted coverages, missed tackles, being out of position.
For as bad as CM beat Belfry 90% of that comes down to those things.. missing a block that leads to a fumble, a penalty that stops momentum, a missed tackle on 3rd and Long that turns into a Long TD..
The schedule is favorable right now for Belfry. With respect to Sheldon Clark, Pike Central, and the 4 seed from District 5.. three of the next four weeks Belfry should be able to focus on the fundamentals and timing. Lets also call it what it is... there is no Central, Boyle, or even Caldwell to deal with on the way to Bowling Green. Corbin, Bell, and Russell are all teams capable of beating Belfry.. but are also teams Belfry should beat even with their A- game.
The skill, size, talent, and depth is there to win a Title... but they are a long way away right now in execution, leadership, and discipline. Still have a month before the games really matter... plenty of time to get it together.

You haven't watched the ends to say they ain't blocking. #44 takes a lot of pride in his blocking and has put whoever has lined up in front of him on their butts. You need to watch the videos and count the pancakes.

Seen Belfry live last week, didn't play to their potential. Belfry still favorite in 3A.

Belfry def needs to hang on to the ball. Have to fix the mistakes. And sure up on a few things. Belfry takes this one 49-7.

After reading this thread I had to comment real quick. For one # 44 is not nasty by no means and if he takes pride in blocking he dosent do a good job showing it. But on the other hand this game will be a cake walk for Belfry. They win it by 30+

Worst Belfry team in the last 30 years but wins this one 3-2.

I think the OLine issues are really due to all the moving pieces. It sounds like each week there is a new guy on the line due to an injury or trying to find the right piece. It should be sorted by the playoffs.

Poor ole jim.... :Shaking:
You're just jealous that Pike County is bigger than Pulaski County and comes first in alphabetical order.

Pirates are a little embarrassed after last two games. This should get them focused and rolling back towards Bowling Green.
