7th Grade Boys Basketball 2015-16
#31
It's a free country, at least for now. As long as the kid is eligible as per the rules, it's no ones business except parents and child. Period.
#32
that's right

King of the Bluegrass Tournament had some great Basketball this weekend. Some great players in 6th 7th and 8th.
#34
Where was this tournament
#35
Heard Cal beat Shelby East 49-48 tonight
#36
7th grade last night:

Crosby 52
CAL 33
#37
Was cal missing any players that is a surprising score
#38
Both teams were at full strength. Tall skinny kid Glass had about 20 and Johnson the point guard had a nice game.
#39
Wow

I get that their legal but it has to be embarrassing even to step on the court sometimes against 12 yr olds. Great job at teaching our youth ways to win by getting 10 kids to repeat a grade, well done

It all equals out in high school anyways and nobody remembers what happens in middle school but the parents so I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

What's the skinny on Knox Co?
#42
What 7th grade teams played in the DICKS tournament at KBA this weekend ?
#43
Clay Co, Knox Co, CAL, Royal Springs, Clark Moores and West Jessamine stood out. Meece brought a "B" 7th only.
#44
Didn't see Winchester (Robert Campbell). Also Crosby didn't play.
#45
Clay Co, Knox Co and Shelby East best 3 teams in session 1
#46
Looks like West Jess never had any real competition as they cruised to title
#47
Heard most of Meece A players where home studying for their drivers test, lol

No, I think 3 of them are playing on the JV team. Probably had a game. I don't know how much middle school ball they actually play. And from what I hear are doing pretty good at that level. Like it or not the kids at Meece are just talented.
#49
They are talented, never said they weren't, it's probably better for them to be playing against kids a little older than against kids 2 yrs younger, wish them luck at that level.

I'm just curious as to why your son, relative, or friends son would be 11 years old and playing 7th grade basketball? I can understand if you are trying to challenge him by playing against older kids but you are really putting him at a disadvantage in the log run. He should probably be playing 5th grade and playing up in 7th if he is good enough. Which I assume he is playing 7th so good for him. I bet he would be really good at his own age level. But, he may be a really smart kid which in retrospect is probably most important. Anyway, it's not my place to judge why you would make that decision for your child. You (or they) have your (their) reasons and I'm sure it is in the best interest of the child.

I looked at scores too and West Jessamine seems really good - but I was surpised to see Wolfe Co. 7th grade made it to the finals against West - KBA website says Wolfe beat South Laurel and LCA (by 19) to get there - Im glad to see a little school from the Mountains go down there and do well !

SWHS, the kid is 12 like most 7th graders, his 7th grade school team has 1 kid that is 13

So you're saying that one 13 year old kid is breaking a rule? The same rule you are bashing so much?
#54
He just turned 13, not a holdback, 0 kids on team are holdbacks, the team I keep bringing up has 14 yr olds and all holdbacks
#55
Do they abide by the KHSAA rules for age requirements?
#56
Have no idea, does anyone even check into it anyway, the rules are a joke
#57
KBA had 2 officials from Clay Co refereeing their games on Sat, u really think their checking ages, lol
#58
While I agree holding back for sports is usually dumb give it a break. They are eligible. As long as you don't turn 19 before the start of your senior year then your eligible. So no rules broken. Refs play no role in holdbacks or enforcing that rule. Middle school success obviously doesn't translate to high school or these holdbacks would always win state titles. It all equals out at the end so just let it play out.

Gotta say. All SF from Session 1 looked good. CAL was increasing lead over Knox Co to 8 by end of 3rd in second mtg. Then center got 2 quick fouls. Full court press killed us with wrong guy throwing in. Had 'em.

Book on Knox is don't allow transition. Stop #2 from penetrating and 2/3 zone them. Poor shooters (except #14). Fans were VERY nice!!

Yes, the KBA does check into it. They check birth certificates and player eligibility. Ask the 2011 Pikeville team who was stripped of their title at halftime up 20 over an ineligible player.

There have been tons of holdbacks. Karl Towns, Nerlens Noel, Andrew Wiggins, Isaiah Briscoe, John Wall just to name a few affiliated with Kentucky (Wiggins being recruited).

Some of us may think that sending a 17 year old to college is bad parenting, but you don't hear us drilling those who oppose holdbacks. I'm driving a Ferrari, but you don't hear me bashing others because they choose to drive a Civic and can't win a race. It's a choice.
