Belfry 2019 Schedule
Patriot1 Wrote:He has been busy and I am sure it’s going to get worse the rest of the summer and he deserved every minute of it. Good luck to him and hope the best for him in which ever direction he heads. Seems like a great kid and definitely one heck of a football player

Thanks brother, I appreciate that. Yeah, it's going to be a real busy June for him. Every week he has either a visit or a camp. Right now he holds three D-2 offers from Glenville State, Concord University, and West Virginia State University. The Concord and WVSU are full rides. And Concord has guaranteed that he'll have a great chance to start his Freshman year. He also has offers from Cincinnati Christian University and Union College. He was told he'll more than likely get an offer from Georgetown on June 9th when he goes there for a visit. He's been in heavy talks with Marshall, WKU, and Tennessee Tech. He has a D-1 offer but he and the coaches are still working things out before he announces it. He's been invited to WVU, Indiana, and Wake Forest next month as well. I've talked to Ethan and he plans to commit the first of August, before the start of his senior year. He said he wants to go ahead and get it out of the way so he can just enjoy his senior year. And I cant blame him. The kid has worked his ass off for this and he deserves a break. Dont be surprised either IF he chooses a D-2 school over a D-1 school. He told me and his mom that he'd much rather go somewhere where he can compete and play right away than go somewhere and have to ride the bench 2-3 years. He said he knows he's not going pro so he just wants to play. And I agree with him. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to let you know what's going on with him. You've always kept up with him and commented about him. And we greatly appreciate it my friend.

Anytime my friend, all you have to do is let me know. Hell, I'll even come get you and put Ethan in the back and let you sit up front! Lol

Where's the next trip to? I'll ride in the back. lol

Sounds like he has some great options. I have family and friends near Tennessee Tech.

Bowling Green for a visit with WKU. Your more than welcome to come along.

We loved it down around the Cookeville area. We really like the school to. He goes back there on June 15th.
What is the realistic prognostication on the o-line and D-line?

The backfield seems loaded. The secondary seems talented. Need some big kids to progress and get better as best I can see.

The offensive line will be fine. IMO, the o-line has the capability of being the best we've had since 2016. the d-line will be improved...size and strength wise.
Bell county played a weak schedule last year and won't be no competition for belfry. Dudley do right makes a weak schedule every year.

Dudley makes you cry like a b*tch.

My uncle and cousins live at Cookeville and Livingston.
EKUAlum05 Wrote:Belfry has 6 Titles and 7 Runner-Ups.
CovCath has 7 titles and 1 Runner-Up.
NewCath has 5 Titles and 6 Runner-Ups.

Belfry and NewCath would have substantially more Regional Titles than CovCath as well.

To be honest, CovCath's resume is actually considerbaly less impressive than NewCath's at second glance, let alone Belfry's.

The only argument you can make for CovCath to be above either is the "what if" game since Highlands has always been in their path all these years. Obviously that doesn't hold water when judging things based off statistical proof. Even then, both NewCath and Belfry have not been lacking for years that they lost to the eventual State Champ themselves in the playoffs.

It's also worth noting Belfry is 5-1 vs. NCC head to head. Belfry and CovCath have not met.
Belfry is a solid mid/small school. Their resume in 3a is impressive.

Unfortunately it’s a nine game season.

Unfortunately your right. I hate this. I hate our seniors are going to miss out on a 10 game season. I wonder why the KHSAA can't step in and help out somehow. They sure have their noses in everything else.

They do? I've never seen them do anything besides look the other way.
Jacoby Thorsnberry at Mingo now? Belfry loses another one so it seems.

Yep. We lose another one. The kid is an incoming sophomore. Due to his size he would have seen some playing time. Don’t think he would have been a starter this season though. Definitely a blow depth wise.

Why are they leaving Josey? This is just puzzling to me.
Tomcat Pride Wrote:Why are they leaving Josey? This is just puzzling to me.

U know I think there are some different factors in play. I don’t think there is any one reason... and I don’t think that it has anything to do with Coach Haywood or staff. In part, I think it’s more of a “sign of the times”. Some want to be a big fish in a small pond.....while others want to be part of something bigger than themselves. I understand both positions. But....you have to really understand the area. For decades and decades that area has operated largely as a “region” and really didn’t see “state lines”. It was very common for KY folks to do all their shopping in Williamson. U never even thought of it being WVA. Then the road opened up....South Williamson got a “mall” and suddenly the commerce largely moved to the KY side. U still had all the sport rivalries....but The Mingo schools got smaller and smaller....and once Belfry got a new high school....it was simply more convenient (proximity) and at the time...the facilities and technology was simply unmatched by the Mingo schools. Today....the proximity angle still exists....but kids see opportunities (whether real or fantasy) and jump. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. Belfry has lost kids and then gotten them back...and has gained kids , only to see them leave after a couple of games and literally play across the River the very week they transfer. So it goes both ways. No need for worry.....this is the cycle. Its just much more visible in the social media age.
May be an unpopular statement but..

It also doesn't help when there are certain social media outlets in the area that treat kids transferring schools like 4* recruits choosing their college.

Then again, this is the same outlet who hype 11 year old kids coming to a run of the mill summer basketball camp like they are playing in the Peach Jam.

I am all for promoting kids and getting them attention, but sometimes I have to shake my head.

This is the most beautiful thing I have ever read. I couldn’t agree any more with what you wrote if I had written myself. Only thing I will disagree with is that you called it a media outlet. That’s giving it WAY too much credit.

I mean if giving a kid a silly nickname, putting together a poorly spelled, grammatically incorrect, and difficult to read "article" is considered a media outlet then this "outlet" is on the way to a Pulitzer.

All facetiousness aside the crap being posted by the group you are discussing is doing more negative than it is positive in my opinion. It might have been dedicated to getting college eyes on mountain kids when the second party was involved. However, now that it is a solo endeavor it has become a running comedy show of the proprietor attempting to be ESPN or Bleacher Report with local sports.

If they want to actually be interesting and relevant they need to do the following in my opinion.

1. Stop the silly nicknames. Some are mildly obnoxious while others are almost a little offensive. I'm looking at you White Chocolate. I'm sorry but Joe "The Terminator" Smith is 9 years old, your nickname does not make him the "Top" prospect in the mountains. Kids don't need that pressure from Social Media, some are already getting it from relatives, coaches, etc.

2. High School Transfers are not something to glorify. This isn't professional sports free agency or trade deadline blockbusters. School pride should be a thing and highlighting transfers the way they do is just stupid.

3. Invest in a spellchecker! Take a class in writing even.

4. Source your material and maybe consult people involved in polarizing articles.

5. If they can't adapt to the things above shut down so the rest of us don't have to look at it all the time.

/rant off.

Sorry, this has been bugging me for a while.

I think I love you?
Anyone know what the deal is with all these kids going to Mingo? It’s sad but there really is a recruiting battle between belfry and Mingo central in this area and it seems Mingo central is winning right now. Not sure how bad it’ll hurt belfry this year considering they got a good backfield, but I have to believe if the trend keeps up they are going to be hurting bad in a year or so. Mingo central on the other hand, it seems like Joey fields is like a magnet for transfers. He comes back and instantly their roster gets 20 points better. They have added atleast 5 kids that I know of since he has returned

Not sure where the “20 points” are coming from. Certainly not from the kids who left Belfry. IB is a defense player. Really hasn’t been involved in the offensive scheme

Address only. Yes.
Somebody pm the media group were talking about please, thanks.
