If Belfry is down, then it could be an interesting game. If Belfry is locked and loaded..game could get ugly.
Southwestern defense is good. Offense, they will struggle some.

This game could be alot closer than what most people think. Don't be surprised if Befry is 0-1 to start the season. The Pirates are beat to death with illness and injuries already and the season hasnt even started. Exactly what we couldn't have happen. And after last nights scrimmage, its worse.

I have became a belfry fan due to some of the posters I have gotten to know. This game has me torn due to excitement at southwestern new staff and belfry injury bug. That being said belfry 21-20.

A few people have ask me about my son Ethan Wolford's injury last night. He went down early in the scrimmage with an ankle injury while playing NG. Got rolled on and it doesn't look good. This morning it was still swollen and has turned blue. So Belfry will be without their starting QB Friday against Southwestern and now may be without their starting Center. Appreciate all the prayers and concerns. We really do appreciate it.

Belfry's injury problems are no joke right now.
IMHO, Belfry definitely has five players who will be playing on Saturdays at some level:
HB/CB Dixon
HB/S Bentley
QB/S Coleman
DE Cook
OL Wolford
Belfry ended their scrimmage with only one of those five guys on the field Friday.
Some young guys are going to need to step up.
I think Belfry can still win, but the OLine is going to have to grow up some this week.

This is a year that we definitely can't afford injuries because of depth and it's all ready an issue and the season hasn't even started yet. Young guys just gotta step up. Can we still beat Southwestern? I think so but it's going to be a close game that could go either way, IMO.

I believe Cook, Bentley, and Dixon will all play Friday. Almost positive they will. Bently has been held out as a precaution. Dixon is healthy. Cook isnt injured but an illness kept him out of the scrimmage. He'll be ready to go. Coleman will not play. And Wolford will be in a "questionable" status as of right now for the season opener. Even still, not a good start on Pond Creek for 2019!

Lol! I think we can still win. But like EKUAlum said, Belfry's O-Line is going to have to grow up this week at practice are going to have to step it up Friday night or we won't. The O-Line will decide this outcome, IMO.

Injuries and sickness are part of the game. That being said, you hate being behind the 8 ball starting the season. Expect some "different" looks to get the ball in the hands of Dixon and Bentley. I really believe the Belfry top 22 (both sides of the ball starters), are as good as anyone in 3a and a lot of other teams. Hopefully at some point they can all be on the field at the same time. This game is a real good chance for the Belfry D to make a statement. They have been much maligned the last two years and with good reason. Nothing personal against any of the young men or coaches and they know that, but stats and performance do not lie. I like this Belfry team to still get the win, but ball security and cutting down on mistakes is key IMO.

Hate to hear about your son. Belfry will still win with Ethan over there cheering them on but what I have heard about him I am not ruling him out. The young man plays with emotion and heart and will be hard to keep him down. Good luck Piratefan#55

This is 💯. This Belfry team is completely decimated with injuries and illness. IMO....itâs very possible Belfry could be 1-3 after their first 4 games. I mean.....itâs simply unreal what has occurred with this group of kids since July 18th.

Could not agree more. I know we've dealt with injuries the last few years, everyone does, but what has happened over the last few weeks to this team is just unreal. I swear seems like we've been cursed! Don't be surprised if Befry is 6-3 or even 5-4 going into the playoffs. But even if we are, if we get healthy we have the talent to still win the whole thing.

Belfry should still win by 3tds even without those players. Southwestern got beat by Danville in a scrimmage, and Danville is really really down this year.

Most definitely. But, Iâm afraid there may be some rocky times between Friday and the 1st weekend in December.
On a side note.....several of us have lamented the 9 game schedule Belfry has found themselves in. The staff has done everything humanly possible to find a 10th game....with no success. Even having discussions with teams out of New Jersey. That being said.....while you would love the extra game to work in Chemistry, depth building and overall prep for the playoffs......the two bye weeks may end up being a blessing while Belfry attempts to nurse itself back to some normal degree of health. For the haters out there....go ahead and start licking your chops for the next several weeks......because there will be plenty of chances. For the Pirate faithful.....keep praying🙏🙏👍🏼🏈🏈. If this team can get right by November.....they have a chance to be lights out good.

Yelp, the two bye weeks may just be a blessing in disguise. And I also agree, the first half of the year could be a "Belfry Haters " delight! There may be plenty of opportunities for them to lay it to us. But be patient Pond Creek, we'll definitely get healthy sooner than later, (this has to stop sometime, right?) and when we do we'll make that run on #7.

I was really curious to see how Belfry was going to perform in this game after the Raceland scrimmage. The bright side for Belfry with all these injuries is that it will give some young players an opportunity to step and get some game experience early in the season which may pay dividends later on.
