Western defeated Lou. Desales 42-20 Friday night. They are the leading ground getters in the state with nearly 500 yards rushing a game. That is unheard of !
Both backs have exploded for nearly 1000 yards a piece. Their QB has rushed for almost 500 yards in their potent wishbone attack. The 2nd year in a row coach Preston has had the leading rushing team in the state. Congrats to coach Preston. A Western-Mercer showdown is coming for the region.

Good, which means a Belfry-Russell game will come up for the East.

Western is a very tough team. They are off the there best start in school history, with a solid D and an Offense that seems to be unstoppable.

Western's speed is unleashed through a power oriented wishbone offense. Typically Eastern Ky. is more smashmouth with the western part being finesse football, Lot of shotgun. Western runs it right at you like Belfry and Russell does with a ton of speed in their backfield.

Western has a entire package of Offensive sets. Coach P really knows how to attack every single weakness of Teams Defense. Either The Wishbone like against Desales, The Pro Sets like agaisnt Butler, or the Spread O like we ran On Breathitt.
And yes.....SPEED does KILL

I worked with Preston, This guy is the 'Bear Bryant of high school football. He will not let his teams slack ever! I've never seen a coach work a team so hard and I know a Doug Preston coached football team will not back down ever. Western is as good as Mercer IMO. If you have seen 'the Junction Boys, That's about like a Preston practice but not as tough LOL. Preston deserves a shot and this year he's got it.

Jeff Jenson does a good job with that o-line up there as well. He's an old time Belfry boy, His dad is coaching great Jim Jenson.

I think you guys are being a little too nice to Coach Preston. He never did anything at Rowan besides beat teams that were horrible. He better thank god everyday that Western gave him the job because he was being ran out of Rowan! Everybody knew Western would be good this year. They won 10 games last year and returned several starters (including the backs that had similiar stats last year). The only new addition is Norman that came from Rowan. In my honest opinion, I think Coach Preston will find some way to choke and not make it to the big dance. (Just like he did at Rowan against the likes of West Carter and Morgan). Let's see how they finish up this year and better yet, how they do next year. Anybody can coach talent. Doug Preston proved he could not build a team at Rowan when he hand picked his schedule and still could not produce a winning season. Hell, he gave new teams like Pendleton county one of their first wins (04) and helped Montgomery get their only W in 05.
I hardly think his name should should be mentioned in the same sentence as Bear Bryant. Wait, your right. He does a good job of acting like a coach in a movie and screaming and yelling, it's the "teaching" part he struggles with.

That's your opinion. Preston made Rowan the leading rushing team in the state. Rowan this year lost to Gallatin in their first year of football ever. If Preston was so bad how did he get a job at Western? If Preston was so bad, Why did half his team he had at Rowan come to his bowl game vs. North Laurel in which he took them out for dinner with his Western team, They must have thought alot of him. Preston thumped Greenup last year, Grreenup killed Rowan this year. I don't get why bash Preston?
No upset vs, Morgan. Morgan was pretty dag gone good the past 2 years and they barely beat Rowan. They gave Russell fits 2 years ago. Why was he being run out of Rowan? Because he refused to hire Ginter as his o-coordinator. That guy had the most talented team in Rowan history and choked royally. Preston can x and o with the best and the man has just been around the likes of Sam Harp and Marty Jaggers all his coaching career. You do know who those guys are, They come from a place namedDanville. Same place Preston comes from. Bash a man when he's gone.
Tell coach Baldrige or the Ad over there to get Western on the schedule next year and see what happens. How bout the stone Viking walk with the names of players and coaches on it. Rowan took the stone up with coach Doug Prestons name on it last week, That's pathetic. Bottom line is the man's a good coach or Western wouldn't have waisted their time on the man. Sam Harp(Danville) don't reccomend bad coaches because he don't know any. I guess now you'll start saying how bad Marty Jaggers is LOL

Louisville Western has a real good chance of winning the 2a this year they have really great players on both sides of the ball that can contribute to their team

Merger And Western Will Battle It Out, And Russell Gets Whats Left......

No, I wouldn't say anything bad about Marty Jaggers or Sam Harp, I just personally don't think a lot of Preston. You are right about Rowan, he is not the only one that has not succeeded there. As far as his teams stats go, Rowan played some of the worse teams in the state so his stats should have been good.

I can see your point coacher but Rowan is still playing those caliber of teams this year and losing to Gallatin in their first year of football should not happen. What I meant by the 'Bear Bryant coment was simply if you've seen the movie " The junction boys" that's the work ethic Preston has( not hardly that bad lol). Preston took over that Rowan job when it was at it's worste point ever. The man made a steady improvement.
I know Western won 10 games last year but they will win a minimum of 12 this year and the mercer game week 12 will be a decisive game . I saw Western against Breathitt and if you go down there and beat them 35-14 at Breathitt, Your pretty good.

Your right, Rowan is in a lot of trouble right now. When Coach Preston left they should have hired a young energetic coach to try to get things going before they go back into district play (next season). Instead, they went with the good ole boy process and we see where they are.
Back to the topic, Western should win at least 12 games this year. I don't know if they can beat Mercer or not, but if they do the trophy should be theirs.

The best move Rowan could have made if they were going to hire a good ole boy would have been to hire back Coach Mac. The man had some pretty competetive teams over there. Noway certain coaches should have been brought back.
But you are right, Western beats Mercer(if) They should have a great shot to win it.
