The pirates are only going to get better. The support for the team is there now and they have a super head coach in Witaker. Every year they will get a little better. Weight room will be very important for next season, They have to get stronger. They have a thorobred in Jesse Rose and they are going to ride him for the next 3 years. He is lightning fast and can make a difference for the pirates at qb or whatever position he plays. He is a perfect qb for Powells passing attack cause he can kill you with his speed.

if the pirates can get sound on defense they can be tough next year. A 3-5 look would be great for them with the linebacker speed they have. Best of luck to the pirates, now you got to get in the weight room.

the administration is behind the football team. More support now then ever.
All I'm saying is Rose can make evry one around him better. He's a great athlete and if he'll lead I think the rest of the team will follow.

I'm just a spectator, but Rose is the most talented player I have seen from Powell.
Let me rephrase that, One of the most talented. He was on the news on tv for his performance. good luck pirates....

I couldn't disagree more. The defense couldn't get off the field thanks to the two quarterback's turnovers, mainly the rose kid you are so high on. I'll admit the kid looked good at times but you can't turn the ball over the way he did. 1) It's hard to score without the ball 2) It puts an enormous strain on your defense 3) It keeps the opposition in contention throughout the game. The defense wasn't fantastic but I'm sure they could have been a lot better if the offense could stay on the field.

Is the ROSE kid the only player on the TEAM. He seems to be the only one you mention and He cant play all 11 positions. THEY will get better as a team if THEY want to work at it. But he cant do it all. If you and everyone Else don't get behind the whole team and not just the Rose kid it will still be the same ol Powell. Good luck to Powell and TEAM next year.

Holding onto the ball and running the offense effectively only comes with experience.
What other players will they have returning next season?

A 3-5 would be the worst defense they could run. I don't think they have the guys to play a 5-2 much less have 5 linebackers. I know that that is probably what they ran in merry middle, but you are in high school now and that just doesn't work in the district they are in . I don't think you can be undersized against Breathitt and Estill and win.

Estill chased him down from behind all night with their D line. You shouldn't put your kid out to dry. Word has it he is an older Freshmen anyway. By the way, a perfect QB throws more TD's than INT's.

Word has it, coaches are leaving because the support is not there and too much cut throat. Put them in a 3-5 and they will give up over 450 points again next year. They have a chance to be OK but they need discipline more than anything!

You are a very smart person Lucky 13, but when you deal with Powell Co. folks, it is always someone elses fault and definately not their kid.
You have kids coming up that can run a 3-5. They couldn't stop the run in the 52 this year at all. You dont got to have looper tackles and go to the same holes every play.
All year long Powell's defense had gaps that were wide open. You have to be able to adjust and we didn't when we needed to. Linebackers have to be taught to fill the open gap. A 3-5 you can slant the lineman and blitz linebackers all night from every direction.
Don't need no loopers.

What kind of offense you going to run that don't turn the ball over? I don't care if you bring Vince Lombardi back to coach, if the defense is on the field all night long you are not going to stop the other team. By the way, a 3/5 is run when you can't stop the run. You try to chase them down. It does not cover gaps, it is a zone defense. Very weak in the middle and easy to pass on.

We will be fine. We got J Rose, B Rice, T Brewer, D Crowe, W Branham, Maybe T Hardy(Knee),(Skills Guys).......D Sexton, Q Vancleve, A Tipton, S Newsome,(Linemen)...Thay'll get stronger this off-season. I am positive of that.

I agree. Powell County needs to realize there is no "I" in team. The running and passing game does not exist without the Offensive Line!
11-06-2007, 11:48 PM
a 35 is not easy to pass on and against a run team move those ends back up to a 53.

It is a QB's dream. They have to be in cover 1 which is man free or 3 deep zone. If they walk the ends up you have the corner or an isolation on the backer. BUT you have to have players who are willing to do what you ask them.

Does Powell Co have a JFL/Pop Warner team or league?
Without that your program will never have a winning tradition. Much less be a dominate force in their district.

They have 1 3-4 grade team and 1 5-6 grade team. They have had them for a few year now.

If Powell keeps playing a dud schedule with dud teams then they may win more games than usual. It doesn't help playing these dud teams.
