Coach's Poll-May 1st
#1
The new coach's poll was released today. Not a lot of changes from last week. Lexington Catholic has dropped out of the top 10 for the first time in a long time. I can't remember them not being in the top 25 for the past 15 years or so. LC also dropped this week to #21. Johnson Central got 3 votes, Greenup County recieved 5 votes, Powell County got 1 vote, and Estill County and South Laurel both recieved 2 votes. Good to see a little recognition from Eastern Kentucky.

Here is the link and the list is below also:

I mean the coaches poll is a joke. It truly is. It is basically a popularity contest voted on by the coaches. Half of these coaches that vote never have seen half the teams in the top 25 play. If you are a head coach and a member of the association you can vote. So basically it's a case of "hey you vote for me and i'll vote for you." It has value on how good a team really is. If it were Catholic would more than likely be #2, and Greenup would be in the top 25 no question.

I do agree on the fact that Greenup should be in the top 25. They are a very solid club, Catholic has the spot they deserve. They haven't necessarily dominated the way they usually would. They have split the series between LCA and Dunbar. Maybe 15 is a little low, but if they would've won those games there's no doubt in my mind they would be top 10, if not top 5. They shouldn't have lost the game to Scott County either.

I am sure there are a lot of coaches out there that vote with the buddy system. I know for a fact that in the 15th region, the practice of you vote for mine, and I'll vote for yours, applies. I am sure it is no different here than other places as well.

EDIT: I guess I just repeated what you just said.

You said they have the spot they deserve and then you said they were too low. haha i'm just kidding you. I think Catholic could beat about 23 of the top 25 teams easily with their top two pitchers on the mound.

Glad to see Campbellsville up there.

I am a big believer of if you pitch your best and i throw my best and we beat you them i am better but The best team should be the team to win 3 out of 5.... so i guess what i am trying to say is you have to be good all the way around not just with one guy on the mound

Yea I agree with that to a point, but if it's not a 3 game series and you are facing them one time, you must consider that one pitcher. Sometimes someone's ace may be better than another team's ace and they still lose. That meaning no runs were scored for you pitcher. I know that happened a few times for Matt Fyffe at JC last season. I think he had 20 K's one game and got beat. Crazy how that can happen.

They haven't had any all year. Personally I think they should atleast be getting votes. Especially, seeing how last year they made it up to #14 and they returned their ace.

I have not seen them play but I know Greenup crushed them and then they gave Lawrence a one run ball game, do they have like a couple good pitchers or whats the deal?

Are you talking about last years game? Paintsville has a really good left named Shane Grimm. He is a lot like Heinerman. Not much different between the two pitchers at all. Both throw mid-80's.
