I said before I live in Virginia, sandwiched right between powerhouse KY, TN, and VA football programs. I know this is a KY message board so opinions my be a little bias but how do you think the elites from EKY would fair against Southwest VA or Northeast TN teams?? I'd love to see a Belfry/Alcoa matchup or a Sullivan South/Bell County game.

EKY powers would dominate the Southwest VA powers....
EKY powers would struggle against the East Tennessee Powers...
Alcoa, Maryville, Dobyns Bennett, etc would win more games than they lose against the best EKY has to offer.
Gate City, Richlands, Honaker, etc are not on the same calibur as Belfry, Bell, and company.

I don't know that many teams out of the state. But in Texas. There might be 3 teams in Kentucky that can play with the texas teams. That is X , T, and Highlands.

I know the VA teams are not the same calibur as the KY teams, even though I'm from Virginia I got ripped on the LPD message board for saying KY football is better than Virginia is. What Maryville and Alcoa are able to do is unreal. IMO the EKY teams would struggle with the speed of the Alcoa's and Maryville's but might be able to make up that difference with their physicality, if thats a word LOL.

Over the years we have played some teams from the other states. Richlands Va. and Knoxville Central to name a few. Ky teams I belive on a whole are coached better. Of course you have exceptions, if you take Hilton, Haywood, Holcomb, Larkey, Matney, Howard, Chandler and so on from the years they would be sucesssful anywere. I also think the kids from EKY are some of the toughest football players you will find nationwide. We just don't have the numbers but the kids from the mountains sure have HEART.

Knoxville Central is just a middle of the road team nowadays and Richlands wasn't the power they are now when Bell played them. I have much respect for the EKY teams, I'd just like to see them play or scrimmage to at least see how they stack up. The only thing I don't understand about EKY is this, Whitley, Letcher, Johnson Central, Clay and all those are 5A, and should be considerably better than the 4A, 3A, and 2A schools but they're not.

Knoxville Central was very good ranked #2 behind Maryville at the time Bell played them, plus Bell was very young at the time. It took a **** of a effort by the Bobcats of K'ville to win that game. Lonas Seiber kicked 4 long FG's to win the game. Their head coach retired and so they dropped that past couple of years but I think he is back now? Joel Helton. He in his own right was/is a pretty good coach.

What year did you play them? Yeah I believe he's back now but they didn't even qualify for the playoffs this year. They haven't done too much since his son Zach graduated.

Michigan Football is stronger than all of these, Ohio might be close.
I'm tired of hearing about money, money, money, money, money. I just want to play the game, drink Pepsi, wear Reebok -Shaquille O'Neal

You can't really compare Kentucky and Texas football. It's just not the same, Kentucky football has a long way to go before they reach Texas football's level.
BTW, here are some Texas HS football stadium's, pretty interesting.

I don't even think those teams could compete in Texas to be honest with you. The coaching, money, and fan support in Texas is incredible.

well i moved down from belfry to johnson city tn and i have wentto alot of games down here,i havent seen alcoca,or marysville but i know for a fact belfry would beat dobbens bennitt, sceince hill, sullivan south. db and sh both lost in the first round to night,i think thats makes 4-5 seasons for db after going undeafeated....

Texas is a huge state. I have followed Texas high school football for years. Yes, the top teams in each class, especially are powerhouses. They dominate other states....but there are a lot of terrible teams in Texas as well. Huge also by the numbers. Overall, Texas has by far the most competitive football in country....but there are a lot of KY teams who could beat teams in their respected classes....especially in some of the lower divisions. Remember the numbers don't even come close to matching up and making a fair comparision with most states.

I respectfully disagree. Belfry is great, but I don't see them beating Sullivan South or Dobyns Bennett.

SW Virginia football is nowhere near the same level as the better EKY teams.
Powell Valley has struggled mightily in the past when they have played EKY teams such as Breathitt County.

Yeah they did. They also got routed by a decent Seymour TN team. I live in SW Virginia but I'll be the first to admit the football here is weak. With the exception of a couple Richlands teams recently, 2005 and 2006 teams to be exact, there hasn't been a team in SW Va that could compete in with the EKY big boys.

Honaker DOES deserve to be on the list since they made the state finals this decade.
Personally, I would LOVE to see a power like Pikeville or Belfry play 1 of our guys every year. But I've been hearing the same thing for years ... they're afraid of us.
Just take a look at the schools between the state line and US 19 from Bluefield to Kingsport. How many state finalists have we had the last 10 years? A bunch. State champs ? A few. NFL players? Four, currently. And these aren't big schools, by any means... 75-150 Seniors.
C'mon, guys. Let's settle this on the field.

Belfry has open dates left, just give them a call....

Johnson Central would love to play also, give them a call. I can assure you, no one in the Mountains are afraid to play anyone.

Listen, my alma mater is Thomas Walker, VA and we play several out of state teams every year. No one in KY or TN is afraid of Virginia schools. That's a ridiculous statement.
