Do you think the drinking age should be moved to 18..you can buy tobacco and go to the army, Marines, Navy Etc. at 18 and can't buy alcohol..whats everyones thought

No! They should have to wait till 21.
Going to the Army or buying tobacco is totally different than buying alcohol, because once your intoxicated you have little to no control.

18 is too young to have alcohol. The maturity level between and 18 year old and a 21 year old is major. Its sad how many 18 year old kids get it now.

No. Wait till the age of 21 to let people purchase alcohol.
18 years of age is to young for people to begin purchasing alcohol.

I believe it should say at 21.
18 seems to be too young and could cause more damage than what it already does if it were lowered.

This is one of those things that I think the person should have the right to do at 18, but they would not be doing themselves a favor by availing themselves of that right. I was drinking, illegally, at 18 and I was not ready for it. Had too much fun!

Our laws regarding age limits are all over the place. If you have to wait until you're 21 years old to drink, then I say we make that the age limit for several other things, including seeing combat. I was in the last group to have legally bought beer when I was 18, it didn't destroy my life but my friends & I did drink too much in college.

I say raise it to above 21. Yet, I do think that if you are actually in some branch of the Armed Services then you should be allowed to purchase it at 18...I just simply think that's fair for what they're putting at stake for our country (their lives).
I know this can't happen, but again, I think only the Armed Service should have a lower drinking age while the rest of us should probably have a higher one.

I say keep it at 21. Because it really dont matter, kids under 21 find a way to purchase it anyways.

I have different opinions about this topic. I think things like wine and beer should be 18. Hard liquor and things like moonshine should be 21. The reason why I say that wine should be at 18 is because wine is actaully good for you. You are supposed to drink a glass a day of it for your heart. Plus unless you drink a whole bottle of wine your not going to get drunk.

Not totally true. Contrary to popular belief, most wine's have a higher alcohol percentage than beer does.

Yeah but still wine is good for you and your heart. Unlike beer.

I think it should stay at where it is right now. The majority of 18 year olds are too immature to have that kind of privilege. And the same for most 21 year olds too.
03-15-2009, 04:17 PM
Leave it at 21, I agree that 18 is too immature to be able to buy alcohol. If they really want alcohol, it is not that hard to get.

But how many 18, 19, and 20 year olds have you seen that NEED to drink a glass of wine a day to be healthy?
Most kids this age are in perfect health, with no heart problems. I don't think a glass of wine is necessary for someone in this age range to be heatlhy.
Go play whiffle ball out back instead of playing Playstation and you'll be a lot healthier too.
If you had asked me "Should the drinking age be lowered to 18?" when I was between the ages of 18 and 21, then I would have said, "Absolutely, yes."
Now that I am almost 23, I don't think so. Those kids should have to wait, just like I did.
I will say this though, drinking, or obtaining alcohol isn't nearly as much fun after you turn 21. It loses the rush from doing something illegal. Just the truth of it.
And what happens when we lower the age to 18? We have a bunch of high school Seniors that can provide their own beer for parties, making alcohol more easily available to 16 and 17 year olds.
I say leave it the way it is.

I used to think that if a kid can go to war then they should be able to have a sip. However, with all the fatalities involving minors in car crashes for driving irresponsibly, I realized that if those kids had alcohol there would be a lot more. Leave it at 21, and I would raise the driving age to 18.

Agreeing with this. Fatalities in this country would be dramatically reduced if the driving age was increased as well as the legal drinking age. 21 is fine with me but anything under that is ridiculous. I would vote to raise the legal age for tobacco to 21 as well. ALL high school students are too immature to do anything responsible to seems.

I believe the legal drinking age should be moves to 19, however keep the legal age to buy it at 21.
