I saw the other Thread with the 70s and 80s and people had like 20 bands or groups listed. So I thought....let's narrow it down to your top 5. I even started a Poll. So here are mine:
1: Guns and Roses
2: Poison
3: Bon Jovi
4: RATT
5: OZZY
There are many more that I listened to and liked. But, this is my TOP 5!
So let's here your's and let's see the votes!
I know you don't see a few bands like: Van Halen, Aerosmith, Journey, KISS, Scorpions and Judas Priest...I think of these guys as either 70s bands or ROCK BANDS. That is why I didn't list them. BUT, You can list who ever you want. But let's vote. I would have listed more but it only let me list 10.
When the poll closes we will see who our Top 5 are!!!!
PLEASE....ONLY vote for 5!

2: Poison
3: Bon Jovi

You know. I thought about them. BUT, they were around in the 70s and they have what is called longevity and they are also considered classic rock. To me they are a "Rock Band" NOT a 80s Hair Band.
So...Alfus re-vote for 5. I know you can cause you have admin powers...!

Do you really think of "Iron Maiden" as a Hair Band?
I sure as heck don't.
But, like I said it only let me list ten. If it would have I would have listed 25 bands. That don't keep ya from listing them in your top 5 though.

I thought from the title of the thread it was "Top 5 80's Metal" or "Top 5 Hair Metal" bands, because of the slash in there.
I wouldn't necessarily classify them as hair metal, but they are definitely metal, and would fall under 80's metal.

Metallica, Megadeath, Motorhead, Pantara, Twisted Sister?...not sure if any of them are considered "Hair" bands but they were great bands of the 80's

I'm not sure that GNR, Ozzy and Def Leppard are considered Hair Bands. Metal, but not hair

Glam metal (also known as hair metal)[1] is a term used to describe the visual style of certain heavy metal music bands that arose in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the United States, particularly on the Los Angeles Sunset Strip music scene. It was popular throughout the 1980s and briefly in the early 1990s, combining the flamboyant look of glam rock and playing a power-chord based hard rock musical style.
"Hair bands" was the term popularized by MTV in the 1990s and derives from the tendency among most such bands to style their long hair in a teased-up fashion.

Metallica was a PHENOMENAL band in the 80s. Justice was by far my favorite Metallica album. Megadeth was good, but until Rest In Peace came out in '91 I believe, they were never put on the same tier as bands such as Metallica. Pantera, my favorite metal band ever, released Cowboys from **** in '90 I believe. I could be wrong, it may have been '89, but Im pretty sure it came out in '90. Still, Far Beyond Driven ('94) and Vulgar Display of Power ('92) were their best albums IMO. Check them out.

If Guns N' Roses is eligible for this list, then they would definitley be #1. However, I have never considered them to be a "hair" band, for two reasons. One, they were much heavier than the actual hair bands. Pretty much the whole Appetite album would blow your socks off. Two, other than the "Welcome to the Jungle" video, they never had the big, teased-up hair that the other bands did. Just long, rock-star hair.
I would also leave Ozzy out of the running for this. For one thing, he was around long before the 80's as the singer for Black Sabbath. Plus, like GNR, he was also much heavier than the mainstream hair band sound. I just consider GNR and Ozzy to be good hard rock/metal.
Now, my "True Hair Band" top 5:
1) Motley Crue
2) Skid Row
3) Poison
4) Ratt
5) Whitesnake

As far as I'm concerned, Metallica is metal, and are the band by which all other metal bands are judged by. And I agree, Justice was my favorite album of theirs, followed closely by Master of Puppets, Black, and Ride the Lightning. Their newest album, Death Magnetic, is really good too, reminds me of their old sound from back in the 80's...
Pantera was awesome too. All three of those albums you mentioned were amazing, and it's a real shame that the tensions within the group tore them apart.
