Best Drummers of All Time
#1
Ok, since there was already a thread for the top guitarists of all time, I figured I would throw all the drummers out there a bone.

My top 5 list...

1) Neal Peart
2) Mike Portnoy
3) Vinnie Paul Abbott
4) John Bonham
5) Lars Ulrich

I know this thread won't get as much action as the guitar one, but for all my fellow drummers out there, let's hear it! Who's your favorite?

I agree with TH32, I never could get into Tool very much. From what I've heard of Danny Carey, he seems pretty good, but I just don't care for the band's musical style.

As for Rush, if you haven't listened to much of them, you really should. Check out Moving Pictures, it has some of their classics like Limelight and Tom Sawyer, as well as a great instumental jamfest called "YYZ". I don't think there has ever been a rock drummer as talented as Neal Peart (although Mike Portnoy is pretty close).

Cool, I'm glad to see that there's already 7 posts on here. Maybe the drummers aren't as underappreciated as I thought.

Since some of you guys went further than a Top 5, I will too. If I was going to list a "Next 5 Drummers", it would probably be...

6) Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
7) Tim Alexander (Primus)
8) Keith Moon
9) Joey Jordison
10) Dave Grohl

Has anyone ever heard of Larry London? He is a studio drummer who played for someone, but can't remember.

Considering that he just had one arm, yes, Rick Allen was pretty darn impressive. It still amazes me that he was able to rig a setup where he could play with just the one arm and his feet.

Still, being objective in my comparison, he just isn't in the same class with the other guys I mentioned. And I know how his drumming sounded prior to the injury. Good, just nothing special.
