Yeah, I remember the game @ Ashland where a Pburg defender deflected the pass but it ended up in a Tomcat receivers hands and he scored.
#5
I believe it was in 93 when Prestonsburg traveled to Danville in the playoffs and beat a then unbeaten Danville team with a final goal line stand.
#6
Pikeville vs Beechwood 1994
#7

Belfry 27
Breathitt Co 26

2001 Breathitt goes ahead 26-7, pirates fight back surprisingly with passing game to win 27-26, in 2nd round of playoffs, the games was in Jackson.

Belfry and Pikeville- I don't remember the date but it was when Pikeville was great and they traveled to Beflry with their undefeated streak and it came down to the last play of the game and their were atleast 5 pass interference penalties on the goalline, with no time left on the clock. Pirates complete a quick slant to win.

Lawrence County vs Breathitt County - 1997 - Regional Championship
#12
Paintsville vs Lynn Camp
Regional Semi Final '05
Paintsville won 27-26 on a blocked extra point by Wes Ward. Daniel Pugh had maybe the greatest QB scramble in the history of High School football.LOL
#13
Lawrence County vs Breathitt in 1997 and
Lawrence County vs Belfry 2002 when the game went in overtime and the Bulldogs won on a run by Michael West, anyone remember him?lol

'95...3 legit pass interferences and a short flag was the winning TD route. Both teams were 6-0 at the time.

1. Male vs. Trinity- Bush vs. Brohm. No game compares.

2. Belfry vs. Etown- 2003 AA State Championship. Pirates come back from behind thanks to a timely sack and fumble. Pirates win in OT thanks to a 4th and Goal run by David Jones and an INT of current Auburn QB Chris Todd. That game featured 4 future SEC starters in Jones (UK), Zipp Duncan (UK), Brandon Deaderick (Alabama), and Todd (Auburn).

3. Belfry vs. Pburg-2004. I still contend the #2 team in AA that year was Pburg. Both games that year were unbelievable, but the regular season game was amazing. My guess was there were 8000-9000 people at Old Vipperman Stadium, people were literally sitting atop trees on the hillside. Pburg completely shut down David Jones and led late at Halftime. Doug Howard then came out like a man posessed including "the stiff arm" to tie the game and force OT. In OT Belfry sealed the deal in an electrifying finish.

Jenkins-Pikeville (1984) when Jenkins pulled one of the biggest upsets in the state's history. I believe it was 14-12.

Remember it well. The second that the football went into the hands of Hatfield was perhaps the single loudest moment in Vipperman Stadium history.

The last second upset of Bell County on their homefield that same season was pretty phenominal as well.

Belfry have also played in some great games in the not so distant past where they ended up on the short end of the stick.

The 2000 loss at Breathitt County when Sperry threw the last second TD in which the receiver never had posession until he was a good 6 feet out of bounds.

The afforementioned 2002 Lawrence County/Belfry game when the heavy underdog Pirates nearly upset the Bulldogs led by West (Marshall), Dontae Wright (Miami-OH), and Jared Hostetter (UT).

The infamous 1998 Regional Final upset to Sheldon Clark when Moe Spradlin crawled across the goalline.

The 1999 Breathitt vs. Belfry offensive shootout which Breathitt won 47-42 in which both teams had 500 yards of offense.

For me it had to be 1995 when Tim Couch and his Leslie County Eagles came into Shedon Clark and SC upset them that nigjht for the only loss Couch had to a mountain team in his high school career. Also the 1998 regional final between SC and Belfry when Spradling went over for the two - point conversion.

Pretty positive Couch lost to Belfry when he was a Freshman and lost a couple time to Bell County.

I enjoyed watching the Lawrence County and Sheldon Clark game back in the late 90's when Gerad Parker was there. I think the Bulldogs lost by two points I think 18-16 or something like that on a last second field goal as time was running out and the field goal was blocked. I think Ben Delong played for the Cardinals then, they were really good.

1998 Sheldon Clark @ Belfry
2006 Belfry @ Sheldon Clark
2008 Sheldon Clark at Perry County
2008 Sheldon Clark @ Fairland OH
2008 Sheldon Clark @ Mason County
2009 Breathitt @ Sheldon Clark

1981 (I believe) Highlands/Campbell County. The Birds only blemish on a state championship team.

Did they win the EKMC that year?

LOL! The first flag was on fourth down with a jump ball between two Pikeville defenders who had position and a Belfry receiver who came over their backs. Pikeville intercepted and interference called on Pikeville. The single worst call I have ever seen. The refs did everything except kick the winning extra point in that game. It led to the famous "They cheat at Belfry" quote by Hillard Howard which was printed in the paper, lol...

This was a game that was a gift to Belfry, and people know how I love the Pirates. Pikeville led 6-0 and that's the way the game should have ended. Pikeville had a long touchdown run called back or it never would have gotten to Belfry's final drive. Belfry had a long way to go and they threw a long bomb. There were multiple Pikeville defenders back and one Belfry receiver and it was a jump ball and Pikeville intercepts, game over, right? wrong. Interference on Pikeville. Next pass, incomplete. Questionable interference at best. Next play. Interference no doubt. A Pikeville defender wiped out a Belfry receiver across the middle and left time for one more play. Final play, a pass to Brad Hatfield in the corner of the endzone toward the concession stand end at Vipperman. Then I believe Mike Hardin booted the extra point. Field was crappy and muddy and that was it. I watched all the last few plays from about 10 feet away on the sideline. Pirates got an early Christmas present that night, but Oh well.

I think you have combined two games and got the details a little mixed. In 1989, Pikeville had their 33-game streak stopped at Belfry 33-24, I believe was the final score. The other game you talk about must be the 1995 game at Belfry which we have covered.

Pikeville versus Beechwood in 1999 was a dandy. Pikeville led 19-10 with about 6-8 minutes left and gave up two late TDs for a Tiger win.

I think the loss to Belfry in 1989 really helped Pikeville win their 3rd in a row. They didn't take well to being on the losing side of the scoreboard.
