Class 5A District 8
#1
Maybe the most competitive district in the state regardless of class. Each team has been considered to be ranked in the class 5A top 10 it seems. So, what four teams make the playoffs in your opinion?

Clay County (2-1)
Harlan County (2-1)
Letcher County Central (3-1)
North Laurel (3-1)
Perry County Central (3-0)
Whitley County (2-2)
#2
Whitley will win district again this year. allthough they might have a blemish if they let up in one of these games like they did against bell, but I think somebody has to beat Whitley before we can think the other way.

I can agree with that. Everyone must go through Whitley County if they want to get that #1 seed. But this is what football is all about, because each one of the district games will mean so much to each team.

Wish I could watch each of them.

Yea this is going to be a very intersting district this year. If Whitley plays there game and can limit mistakes they should take it again. Letcher and Perry might be a suprise and with the way North has been doing so far who knows when they could peak. Clay is more athletic than most thought, top to bottom very tough district.

This is by far the toughest district in the Mountains. It should be fun to watch it all unfold throughout the rest of the season. I agree with you guys though, Whitley County stands in everyone's way of winning the district. The Colonels may not still be the favorite after the bashing they took from Bell County, but will be right there at seasons end. This is a district where all teams have at least a shot at winning. At this point, I believe Perry Central is now the favorite after their Breathitt County victory. The Commodores have a great offense/defense and are my pick to win this district.

Good luck to all teams throughout the rest of the year!

I dont think anyone could guess how this district is going to shape up because some odd teams are making an impact. One thing i do know for sure and thats just my opinion is that harlan county will not make the playoffs this year because it will take time getting adjusted to 5A competition instead of 3a competition. Harlan will probably make there impact next year.

The game at Letcher Central in two weeks will be a telling point of how good Perry Central is. I am glad to see this district get some recognition. Some of the teams in the mountains play a tough pre-district schedule but their district is weak. Ex: Breathitt County. This is the reason Letcher Central had to play Belfry for homecoming. You don't want to lose any game but you especially do not want a distraction during a district game when this district is so competitive.

It's really tough to pick this district from top to bottom because of how evenly balance these teams are but if i had to take a shot at it right now (although it might change) I'd have to say
1. Whitley County
2.Letcher County Central
3.Perry County Central
4.Clay County
5.North Laurel
6.Harlan County

Dont be suprised if one or two or even three of the slots are decided by tiebreakers...
#9
Oh brother!! I knew this was going to end up being a thread! IMO Whitley is def #1. LCC and PCC are both looking good and who knows what will happen in that match-up???
#10
Perry, LCC, and Whitley..one of these 3 will take it
#11
1. Whitley County
2. Perry County Central
3. Letcher County Central
4. North Laurel
-------------------
5. Clay County
6. Harlan County

(3-0)

Harlan County is going to have to improve a great deal to compete with the other three. At this moment, I am not sure that they can beat either North Laurel or Clay County. All these matchups could be good games.
#14
With my philosophy of being a fan, Of course I'm going to pick Harlan County! We will find out one way or they other our chances in two weeks when we travel to Whitley! Go Bears!!!!
#15
I think that some of you guys are writing Clay County off. They have a very good football team this season and could win this district. I'm serious too.
#16
1. Whitley
2. Clay
3. Letcher
4. Perry Central

I have saw Clay two times, also have saw Whitley and North.

Clay much better than North. Would not be surprised if they beat Whitley. It could really end up in any order with the 4 I have listed, but I think it will be these 4.
Spots 2, 3, 4 will most likely be decided by a tie breaker just like last year.

PCC 4th?

Noway and Clay at 2nd idt so LCC & PCC are both better then Clay IMO.

1-2 pcc and whitley, october 23rd will decide the #1 seed i think, if pccs defense can stop the running game like they did against breathitt i see pcc winning, but whitley is a real tough team and id have to see them play before i got a real good opinion on them

3 letcher, i think they are a little overrated so far this year, they did beat hazard who are down this year but then come back with a loss to belfry who is also down this year, logan is just not experienced enough right now but will get better as the year goes on

4 clay , hooker and miller are 2 great athletes who could have a breakout game and help beat anyone in this district

north laurel, wardrup is a one man show there, i thought they were prooving to alot of people they were going to be good until they just beat a bad south laurel team 7-6

harlan-just not ready to compete with all these teams yet, they will get there though

Have you seen Clay play? Their defense is outstanding. South is not a good team but they had 3 total yards and no first downs in the first half against Clays starting defense. Clay has two great backs and a qb that can be explosive.
I do not know about Letcher but from what I have seen I think Clay is better than PCC. I said I thought it would come down to a tie breaker between 2, 3, and 4 though.
We will not know who is really better until they play , but even though I am not a Clay Countian, I am becoming a fan as you have probably realized. I am just a football junkie that tries to find a good game to watch every Friday night and I will be watching more of Clay.

PCC better worry about September 25 before they worry about October 23.
#21
i see pcc beating letcher 2 or 3 tds...im not saying they dont need to worry about letcher...im just saying that i think them and the whitely county game will be the deciding factor of the district #1 seed
#22
This is deff the toughest district in the EKY and maybe even the state this year. I think its like drawing names out of a hat to say who's going to win this district.

I agree

Clay has the best defence in this district and that will keep them in every game. And their offence is very explosive. So I may be bias, but in my opinion Clay can beat anyone in this district. Whitley, Perry, and Letcher all have good teams from what Iv'e seen so far, but Clay is capable of winning this district.

1. Clay
2. Whitley
3. Perry
4. Letcher

IN THAT ORDER
#25
clay needs a good win before i brag on them more
#26
Clay in my mind is a sleeper in this district and wont be surprised if they end up winning it. They deff have the talent to do so! Other teams in the district better not overlook them!
#27
I can tell anyone that no one in this district is over looking anyone.

You have got to be kidding me. I think that is a major statement saying Perry Central is going to beat us by three td's at Letcher Central. I know you have your opinion, but I think that is stretching it a bit.

Let's remember last year when everyone said we was going to win district, and then we come and let Whitley beat us. I think it is closer than what people think. I think we can play with Whitley if we don't cause any turnovers.

No way LCC loses by that margin at home. Whitley is my pick followed closely by PCC, LCC, and Clay.
